I look forward to the property and house updates every week. A bridge over the trench would make the shortcut easier to use. Stay safe, see you next week.

Talk to the power company. Let them know what you're thinking of doing, and see if they'll go halfway with ya. Their trucks have to drive over any bridge you put there. So, it's only fair they share some of the cost, and it benefits them to not have to navigate around that trench or break their equipment. We did something similar in my mom's neighborhood where they had powerlines running behind all the houses and had a similar service road running beside it. The power company even let us set up a lock of our own in conjunction with theirs to open the gate for vehicle access to the rear of the house.

If you put in new walls get the think installation that will keep your house warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. If you do chickens get some geese they are good “guard dogs” they alert things that aren’t supposed to be there and they can attack lol.

I thought the same exact thing! I was gonna be like "Toonz, do we need to take your DL away???" LOL. Depending on how close that ditch is to the power lines he might not be able to do anything there...power companies are usually very protective of the property around the towers.

@@aldrea6506 Just take a 20 ft long drainage pipe and buncha dirt, dump it in there, and pack it on top to create a flat 10 ft wide path across with tapered sides. What the power line companies don’t know won’t hurt ‘em. 😉 Just sayin’, lol! They probably wouldn’t even tell the difference with how often they go out there, tbh… Might even be doing them a favor making it easier for their own vehicles and workers to cross.

If you dont have a wood burning fireplace, you should install one even if you dont use it often. Dont know what winter is like where you are but a fireplace that you can actually use to heat and cook on could be a life saver. I would never live in a house without one. Not to mention the cozy factor and elegance can't be underestimated. Outdoor fire pits, smokers, and stoves are not just luxuries but necessities I can't emphasize enough. You have an excellent pallet to create a work of art with this home. 💋👍Also, consider a solarium area and of course solar panels to cut utility costs. Your Property Taxes might be a bitch to afford so cutting energy costs will help a lot.

Oh and seeing how y’all didn’t want to cut the Cedars down and liked there look when y’all build the new house you should look at possibly planting some Red Dawn Cypress trees they grow pretty quick and look lovely although they do drop there leaves in the winter time and you could take one of the big cedars and have a table top live edge cut out of it with some of the Timbers from the Ice house and make a nice picnic table to have out under the Cypresses.

If you are wanting to plant more trees around the shop may I suggest some Sawtooth Oak and Dunstan Chestnut are extremely fast growers. And, along with a few Chinkapin Oaks they will make great wildlife feeders when they start to bare nuts. Also if you’re wanting to replant some timber on your property you should look into some State and a federal grants I’m not sure about NC but I know Alabama has a few grants to help landowners replant hardwood Forrest on there property. And, love the little Gun range you should look up doing a small Skeet/Trap shooting range too nothing more fun that busting some clays while soaking in beautiful views!

Do you guys have these thing called "salaoja" here in Finland? Its a drain pipe that goes around the building and haves a bunch of holes in it. The. You need to install precipitation wells on all corners. It collects the rainwater etc. From the ground so it doesn't sit against the buildings plinth. Then from the precipitation well athe lowest point you need to lead the water to a well or a ditch somewhere. Its a must here bc of all the melting snow and it rains like 300 days a year. As someone who works in attics a lot due to my job as a hvac tech, I’d say try denim insulation it’s nicer and less messy plus you don’t gotta worry about fiber glass or other irritants if you ever need to get up there for some reason . Also if you get your furnace installed in the attic I’d say check it out once it’s done. Sadly lots of companies leave trash or don’t do a good job because they think the home owner won’t look up there a celling savor is nice to have as well ( turns of the unit in case it’s not draining so it dosent cave in your roof) just for assurance. Just in case the inspector misses something. Over all I can’t wait to see this come together, and any other questions you have about Heating or air-condition I’ll do my best to answer 😁👍.

For the indoor work shop u could have like a big garage door opening from one end to the other with doors that just lead outside if u just wish to park the cars outside. inside can be a big warehouse with office rooms n living quarters with a small kitchen on a multi level floor level inside for whatever projects and a over looking view to see down the open area. possible a cargo loading truck ramp if u think u might need that in the future? nvm.. i think we have the same idea. lol you could solar panel the top with a power generator room. and motion sensor lights to turn off automatically to save power.

Wow, taking out the ceilings really sold raised ceilings on me lmao. I would definitely say put a bathroom in the backwoods building; I forget how far away it is from the main house, but if you have to go, you have to go! Maybe a mini fridge too so you always have cold drinks (but there would be no point running a full fridge if there's not much in there). Interesting that you mentioned the ditch story, because astronauts have often had the same issue on the moon. They'll be exploring and only see the flat-looking horizon, but then there are deep craters that seemingly come out of nowhere. Are you keeping any of the floor tiles from the original house? The black and white looks really cool, but not in whatever room it was in (the garage??). Final point (and you would know your area better than I) but some kind of generator that's good enough to power the whole house in case of a power outage would be a good idea, since you're out in the wilderness. I wouldn't say get it right away--live there a couple of years and see what life is like in crazy inclement weather, but it doesn't look like your house would be a priority to restore in case of a major disaster. I live in a semi-rural area, but a few hurricanes and blizzards have put us out for a week without power (and water, because we have a well). It sucks.
