    Hey LevelCap, if you see this or anyone else playing or buying this game, hidden in keymapping you can map a button that lets you turn ON/OFF "Inertia Dampeners." It lets you turn of the automatic breaking as you stop the engines/turbo, so you can fly at high speeds and turn the ship 360 degrees in all directions and stil keep going the original path, allowing you to do "drive by shooting" basicly

  • @GeekByte

    @GeekByte

    Ай бұрын

    Great tip! We don’t bind it by default as we think of it as a more advanced control method and don’t want new players to accidentally activate it, but it’s definitely something the more discerning pilot can utilise.

  • @magnusberge

    @magnusberge

    Ай бұрын

    @@GeekByte yes but why does it have to be "hidden" in the keymapping area, maybe add it as a checkbox in the gameplay options or something, make it more visable where its alot higher chance that players stumble upon it

  • @GeekByte

    @GeekByte

    Ай бұрын

    @@magnusberge Couple of reasons around this tbh. One I've already mentioned, as we have had players accidentally turn off inertia dampeners, who then don't realise what they've done and have had a baptism of fire when it comes to controlling the ship which, especially in a new player experience, can be massively off putting and we want new players to have a great experience. Secondly, is key binding space. Inertia Dampeners was originally a PC only feature, but since we added Console controller rebinding in with our UE5 upgrade, we felt it's best left to the player, on either format, to decide which key or button they'd like to bind this feature to, especially as there's limited space on controllers, even when using modifier buttons. We could have placed a toggle button in the menu, but with the above reasons we felt it best, from a player experience and technical viewpoint, not have it so accessible as it does cause issues which we try to avoid.

    The price is definitely worth it. Over 80 hours of game time and I'm still not finished with it yet. In my opinion, if you're a space game fan, this is the game you've been looking for all your life. It nails right so many concepts, like exploration and ship customization (basically a Need for Speed Underground 2 Space Edition). The best part though is the excellent fast paced combat. Most enjoyable dogfighting I've ever had in a game , and I'm an Ace Combat player (Ace Combat still thrives in 1v1 dogfighting though). The fact that some agile "classes" can get into the fray while surrounded by dozens of enemies and still stand a chance based on your skill and equipment choice is such a powertrip. And like the reviewer said, the footage on the review doesn't show what the end-game dogfighting truly looks like. If you stay still shooting like that on end-game content you die in seconds. Great review for a great game. Hoping that with this review they manage to sell even more, leading to more expansions (A DLC is already in the making).

    My favorite thing about this game is you can tune the combat to be fun with a proper flight stick. Turn off aim assist but then also set enemy health really low, so sniping is super effective but as soon as we're dogfighting I actually have to make use of missiles and dedicated close range guns with spread now have a functional purpose.

It was only after being frustrated with those other games that I decided to give Everspace 2 another try and realized I could fly within cockpit with my Hotas using 6 degrees of freedom and newtonial flight with inertia off. For a studio of 20 people Rockfish have done a fantastic job. I cannot put this game down. Anyone who loves fast paced space shooters should definitely give this a try. Everspace does not try to do everything but what it does do it does well. Hopefully the developers do look at tobii eye tracker support because that would be the icing on the cake.

    Great video. this one convinced me to pick it up. I'd been holding off for all the same reasons you had mentioned. That plus the first one being a roguelike made me think this one would be similar and I'm not super big into that genre. Additionally, this video made me realize something that drives me crazy about Star Citizen. Star Citizen is so friggen DARK. when you're flying around Yela, you gotta use your ping all the time to even SEE all the asteroids in the belt if the sun isn't directly on your side. When you're looking around for objects in space, it's always against a pitch black backdrop. This game goes for a bit less realism and lightens up the backdrop of space with a lighter blue with some color and then adds beautiful nebulas and gas clouds as a backdrop so you can actually SEEEEE everything. That plus the fact that things are lit from all direction, not just the side catching the direct sunlight. I know it's unrealistic, but damn if it doesn't like 3000% more playable.

Also, what are these games in the "current trend" of space games that you imply trend towards "super realistic sim"? Please don't say Star Citizen, because it has one of the absolute worst flight models ever made for any space game.

    Bought it on PC/Steam Deck at release day, and also for my Series X. Waiting for a Switch version now 😎 I love space games, and also looter games as Diablo, so I am totally in.

    I did enjoy this game. I did not finish the story line but I did get distracted and got pulled away. I need to go back and finishing this.

    I'm a big fan of the original and I couldn't wait for this one to come out. Sadly I still haven't been able to get my copy yet, but someday. Also LevelCap have you tried Chorus? Now that was an amazing space shooter and I think you'd like it if you haven't.

    Very glad you mentioned that game. There is nothing wrong with more casual approach in space simulators, honestly I prefer them more. And speaking of, please check out Chorvs, discovered it last year, had plenty of fun with it, it's much shorter than ES2 and story is quite original. Has quite addictive gameplay but lacks more advanced upgrade system, there is only few items really.

    I played Everspace 1 and while the gameplay was certainly well executed, I'm not particularly fond of the Roguelike approach and the constant pressure to progress to the next crossroads node - which is why I never took a second look at Everquest 2, believing it would just be more of the same. I might have to reevaluate my stance on that game now...

    Well, it's not a roguelike obviously. Other than that the combat is very similar with the main difference beeing that now you have more customisation option and different guns & stats of the guns. The exploration aspects of the locations with lots of puzzles and rewards is great.

    Do you know Galaxy On Fire II? Android game from Play Store? It's like Star Citizen light. Mining, P.I., shooting, Motberships, Trade, Story, etc... If You play it, between battle and mining you need to change ship control type steering.

    I think for video content like this and a game like this, it is important to show more of the first person cockpit gameplay and show it early in the video. For many players this is a mandatory option to even consider playing a space flight game.

    Gameplay is king. Do not mistake the lack of "newtonian" style physics with the lack of depth/immersion. There's a reason descent style games were almost pre-cursors/spin-offs to bullet-hell experiences while most space-"sims" are built off standard flight-sim components.

    Gaaah! Maaaan, ruined my secret. Everspace 2 is one of my goto's when SC is pissing me off. The other is X4 and all it's DLC's. I use my VKB Sticks and Pedal's in those as well. Also X4 has native support for Tobii.
