    It is not the dealership responsiblity to teach him the ski or how to ride that's what the book is for. He was going to damn fast and everyone else was moving slow. Juan lost his leg because of some dumb shit like this and the guy that hit him is walking around care free. My hat goes off to you on this one. Because if someone hit me like this wife my wife on the back, you mightiest well make there funeral arrangements. He was totally in the wrong and lack riding ability.

    You are correct. The dealers aren't to blame. There's a manual that comes with every new jet ski., which describes all the ski's features, how they work, and tells every new owner to get on the water, practice, and familiarize themselves with the ski. It's the rider's responsibility to read that manual and learn to ride safely and responsibly. There's actually shared fault in this crash, I think. Yes, he was indeed going too fast and was too close to not only Jun, but to other people in the ride. However, while it's hard to tell because of the perspective the 360 camera created, it appears that Jun made a left turn into the other guy's path just as he was being overtaken. When you watch the video, when the guy swims up to Jun after the crash, you can hear him say to Jun, "You turned left..." They're avoiding blaming each other because they're friends, and while the guy who hit Jun's ski is admitting some fault and blaming himself to some extent, they are both trying to blame the dealers.

  • @joshlemke735
    @joshlemke7355 ай бұрын

    No blame? You're too generous. That dude was driving like a maniac right in between a sand bar and boats that are clearly slowing down to park.

  • @kevinskurat9196
    @kevinskurat9196 Жыл бұрын

    There truly is a lot that can be learned from this video. First of all, guys, don't blame the dealers. Every new ski comes with a manual. Every single thing you talked about is in that manual. It's your responsibility as a rider to read the manual. It is then your responsibility to do what the manual says and get out on the water and practice. Regarding the actual crash, it's very difficult to tell just exactly what happened because it was a 360 camera that recorded it. The 360 camera completely throws the perspective off. However, it appeared to me that there was probably some shared fault in this accident. It appeared as if Jun might have turned to the left just as Chris was overtaking him. In fact, when Chris swims to Jun after the crash, he can be heard stating to Jun, "You turned left..." If that is indeed true, then Jun changed course without checking to see if it was all clear and safe for him to do so. On the other hand, a boating course will teach that a vessel overtaking and passing another vessel from the rear is the give way vessel while the vessel being overtaken and passed is the stand on vessel. That means, that in this case, Jun had the right of way. However, even the vessel with the right of way has to operate his vessel responsibly and safely. So, while Chris may have been at fault because he approached Jun's ski too fast and too close, Jun may have shared in fault for turning his ski into Chris' path. Speaking of boating rules, along with reading the manual, practicing, and riding responsibly, it's a good idea to take a boating course. Another thing about this incident is, were the authorities notified? If a boating accident occurs, and there is damage over a certain amount of money, and/ or an injury occurs, the law requires a report be filed with the proper authorities. Should insurance issues later arise, or an injury should turn out to be more serious than it first appeared, then liability, damage, and medical bills are going to become a big deal, making an official investigation and report invaluable. Finally, this video is the perfect example of what not to do if a thousand pound jet ski strikes you in the back. Jun should have been very carefully taken to the shore and put on his back. He should have remained as quiet and moved as little as possible. He should not have been standing and moving around. He should have remained quiet like that until professional medical personnel checked him out. So many times, injuries in accidents are far worse than they initially appear. This could have turned out so badly. Hopefully all turns out well, and Jun and Chris are still good friends when this is all said and done.

Capturing the incident was amazing footage and glad you can share with the attitude you had with the rider that struck you. Sharing this will hopefully teach others that experience on the water is HUGE and you can teach 95% of water safety in a weekend...... other 10% take you the rest of your life. Hats off to the person that hit you, he obviously is still tore up over it!!! I was wondering why I haven't been seeing your videos lately, fan of Jun's World from Georgia!!!!!

    I'm glad that you got together with Chris to do THIS video and all is (mostly) good. This is a good thing. It is a shame it happened, it's a shame the ski took the brunt of the damage, but that can be fixed or replaced... you cannot. We can all learn for this and move forward. It doesn't necessarily take large numbers, it doesn't take anything but a lack of attention to detail, larger groups or small. Inexperience was the cause in this case, plain and simple, as was stated in the video. You can blame large group rides all you want, accidents happen... this is why they're called "ACCIDENTS". I've been riding more then 31 years now, and have seen some and actually been involved in one myself... way back in 1991. When I (and my friend) were new riders. Since then, I always say... "keep your head on a swivel." Know where you are and anybody around you. Jun, I'm glad you are OK after this incident, and Chris has learned a valuable lesson. Something we all need to keep in mind while out there enjoying our addiction. Thank you for sharing and be safe out there... LET'S DO THIS !

    I was in an accident once, except I was moving at speed when I was hit. I ended up coming to a stop about 30 feet from my ski. Fortunately, unlike you, the other riders ski never hit my body, it only hit my ski. We both went flying. I was a little stiff for a day or two, but not a single cut or bruise on either of us. We were both very lucky. It is amazing how fast a day can turn tragic. This is a great thing you guys did here to raise awareness. I'm glad you both walked away.

    Damn, thank god you are safe and still smiling. Quite a blessed individual to not have done some serious body damage or worse. Also, thankfully you had your safety vest on and you were all close to a sand bar and not off-shore. This video is so important for all riders. For me, it will be etched my mind forever, as I am a beginner who literally just picked up my first Sea-Doo. Experience -none! I learned a lot from many individuals on various you tube channels and realized the importance of learning your ski, the waterway, safety (mostly) and care. It was through the community that made me realize there is a learning process, even way before you hit the water. I wish you a speedy recovery. Thanks

I hope this video and your being here to tell about it makes the newer riders take this sport a little more seriously. It doesn’t matter if it’s a group ride or a few friends out on the water, every rider is responsible for themselves, not the event promoter or the ride leader.

    Great advice. I've got about 300hrs. on mine, and some days I have to remind myself not to get too cocky out there, things can happen in a second. Every trip out on the water theirs new skiers and boaters, keep your eyes everywhere.

    I rented a PWC 30 years ago at a resort on Houghton Lake. The resort owner told me if he saw me within 500 feet of another PWC, I would loose my deposit !

    Yep the water is dangerous. I was knocked off ski by what must have been a boat wake I didn't see. I hit nothing but water but I still suffered a fractured spine and a torn artery in my chest. I thought is was dying with the pain but had to ride my ski back to the ramp amd load it whole 2 FL wild life cops were hound me about going to fast thru the idle zone. I told them I was just in a wreck and was heading directly to the hospital.

    Dang brother, you were one cool calm customer when that happened. Even advising your wife to stay on her ski. I know why you did that was to protect her from other drivers. That is 100% on Chris he was driving way too fast. You were driving slow The positive you were not seriously injured and you got to see how much your wife loves you..

    Glad you are feeling better that’s terrible. This is why I avoid most new riders with these fast skis they have no idea how to ride.

    Can you post pictures of both skis? Just curious to see the damage. That looked pretty bad on video, but when I saw your ski it did not look as bad as I thought it would.

    That was Jun?? Oh, just found this vid. Y'all be careful out there. Modern skis have 'Off Power Assisted Steering' - not sure if this one did or that has limits, too. I'm wanting to do a big group ride there soon.

    Even me as someone whose only rode a jet ski 4 times, i would never be going that fast in between other people that was very irresponsible and shouldn't be done regardless of level of experience but most importantly he will learn from this and nobody was hurt .

    Large group rides are absolutely risky. It's sort of like large group motorcycle rides. It's a whole new experience with a large group than when you're alone or if there's just a couple of you. It's mostly common sense, though. It's all about watching your speed, your proximity to other skis, your following distance, and constantly watching all around you. Also, READ YOUR MANUAL. It tells you everything about your new jet ski. Then, get on the water and practice. These machines are extremely powerful, fast, and they weigh a thousand pounds. They can cripple or kill people if you don't respect them and ride them responsibly and safely. And, as we saw, it can happen in a split second.

    Only way is hours on the water and riding different types of water. I like to wave jump in the surf so a lot of times you need to get out of the way of the next wave and need to gas the ski quick and you learn by second nature you cant turn unless you throttle the ski. The best way to learn is trail riding through marsh, you HAVE to make sharp turns and you learn real quick by going off the trail into the marsh a few times you have to gas the ski in order to turn last second. Even riding around buoy's will teach you..... throttle, throttle and more throttle for turning till its automatic without thinking.
