Great reaction as always guys! It's good that you gave her some background before hand regarding the meaning behind the song. As for a couple of suggestions for other Nightwish songs, how about some "solo-ish" songs like "The Islander" or "While Your Lips Are Still Red" featuring Marko, or "Sleeping Sun" featuring Floor...I think the ones I'm thinking if were live at the Tampere(sp?) show. Thanks!! 🙂

Otra vez: El nombre Floor se pronuncia como suelo en inglés o flor en castellano. Es decir, FLOR, no FLUR. Once more: The name Floor is pronounced like floor in English or flower in Spanish (i.e. FLOR, not FLUR).

I'm 54 years old and have been listening to heavy metal music since I was around 10. I grew up with and listened to all of the iconic bands. Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera. I could go on and on. This version of this song is not only my favorite Nightwish song but my favorite song EVER. That's no small feat considering all of the music that has played in my ears over the last few decades.

To this day i believe this is the best written, composed and performed song of Nightwish. For sure my favourite.

16:40 concuerdo totalmente!!

On a more serious note: Ms. Helo, in case you had any doubt that this song was about Tuomas, consider this: Right at the end of Part IV, right before you hear the heartbeat slowing and then stopping, had you been watching, you would have seen Tuomas make a sliding motion with his hand from front to back, as the pendulum figuratively finishes descending and kills Tuomas, the titular "poet" of this song. And, Tuomas is such a genius composer that the pendulum figuratively killing him strikes exactly three minutes after you hear the voice talking about being "strapped onto this altar." And the whole reason for this song? Because Tuomas felt betrayed when Nightwish's fanbase turned on him after being forced to release Tarja Tarunen, their original vocalist, in 2005, over personal issues that could not be resolved. This song literally gives you every emotion that anyone who has ever been betrayed goes through -- because when you are betrayed, all you can do is ask "Why?" And when you get no answer, all you feel is hopelessness, depression, anger, and rage. Which is why I, personally, know what this song is about, because this song, musically, expresses the whole emotional state I find myself in whenever I have suffered betrayal at the hands of someone I thought I could trust.

The so-called "betrayal" is very questionable to say the least, and I am sure he wrote the song in the moment of anger and depression, no disputing that. I do however think he is of a different state of mind today regarding what happened with him and Tarja. Personally, I think it's pretty logical to question someone who feels the need to publicly humiliate and hang someone for the kill, which is what he figuratively did to Tarja, expressing some serious accusations that are quite damaging, and mixing in issues like culture based on very thin, to non-existent arguments. In addition, to hide important facts from the context to the point of blatantly lying and then talking about morality, he is is no martyr, he dug himself into this position.

@@FemaleMetalLover And yet the entire band band signed off on getting rid of her. The open letter, the song, thats how artits cope with problems, especially emotionals. For him it was a betreyal, and no one can blame him for it. Check some behind the scences about nightwish with Floor and see the difference. They look like family now. Not to mention It was Tarja's husband, walking piece of shit, who wanted Nightwish to basically become Tarjas beckup band. She made her choice and he made his, its not our place to tell him how to feel about it or judge him. If I had band I was whinking "this is it", we will be together till the and then hearing in the interview the Vocalist saying that next album will be her last with the band. Without telling this to anyone else. I would've done much worse then him. Oh, and ofc Emppu and Marco checking out how Tuomas is during the song was just for show as well right?

@@FemaleMetalLover Whole band agreed and signed the letter, not to mention the letter was the right thing to do - they didn't want to just let someone go quietly behind everyone's backs and then claim as if nothing happened. It was a no win situation, any and every choice was bad and they took the least bad option, as it seemed to them. It was either let one person go, or lose every other person, not to mention that one person would have jumped the boat anyway. Natural choice, if asking anyone with any reason. Open letter was simply to show to everyone what was done and why it was done. Obviously people outside of the band don't know the real things behind issues and obviously they took it out of the context and came up with their own "ideas" and "reasons", exactly the thing what the letter was thought to clear. So no, Tuomas "didn't do that thing to Tarja", it was the decision of the whole band. Tarja and her husband did "that thing" to the band already before and were damaging it with each passing day. In the end, to save everything they had to get rid of one thing, even when that one thing was someone they knew for a long time. Save the being by removing the tumour. No nice way to do that, there's always blood.

He is not talking about being betrayed by the fan base but about feeling betrayed by a friend which would be Tarja in this case. In fact, when he talks about not being able to cry 'cause the shoulder cries more, he is probably talking about the fans
