Amazing documentary series, very unbiased and informative!

I work as a User Experience (UX) Designer. In theory our job is to give the user (and not only the customer) the best experience possible. Sadly companies will often ask UXs to trick the users to do things that are not in his best interest.

Thanks for putting out this episode. The point is that this information is available in public domain for a long time but how you presented it makes one want to see it till the end. Well done team

These algorithms are damaging the developing world popultions more than they are doing in the developed world because of like off awareness, government regulation and tech knowhow particularly among poorer communities and youth. Social media in particular. Thanks Aljazeera for highlighting these issues and hope you continue broadcasting such programs in the future.

That’s why it’s not informed consent. Because your only option to access the site is to agree to their terms or you don’t get to play and then you’re socially disadvantaged. You have to agree to belong and to participate as a player on the site. So it’s really not informed consent, it’s more informed “take it or leave it” because you have no negotiation leverage it there..It’s like when a healthcare insurance company or even your employer, as a condition of employment or of offering insurance, makes you sign a contract that says you agree to settle any claims or disputes using mediation and arbitration and not civil courts. You just signed away something that you might want to use in the future, but had you not signed it, you wouldn’t of gotten the job. So is that something that employers should be able to do?

Thank you for doc. They say "Apply or no need to go farther in the website". I'm the addicted type, while for some time ago I was 3d games addicted 16/24-7/7. Now, from time to time in Streaming sites like KZread or Technical forums ("Gamified" ones) like StackExchange network. It is really hard to pull off these "screen" new technologies like a baby attracted to his parent phones. Soon or later, they will be used as arms. That's will be the end of this age. RESET again.

BTW, some our Muslim scholars are still against taking pictures & videos if not really required. So this is a +1 reason to support it.

I want this news channel very much because it gives only the truth.

This video tells people that there is a threat specifically targeting them to get their fight/flight system firing to MAKE them feel the need to keep watching. Your friends manipulate you by being nice to you to MAKE you enjoy their company and MAKE you give them continued thought and attention throughout your life. Everything people desire can be made to sound scary if you word it like this! You forgot to ask WHY people desire it, and if it's a bad thing to desire social contact through whatever medium. Maybe if you get your ego under control, you'll not feel so great a need to see how many people have liked you that you can't stand to be in the company of only one other person, or maybe that one person begging for your attention without competing with your friends on your phone just isn't all that interesting to you. Facebook didn't make you cynical.

Yes! The key to restoring individuality is to think what the video that got your attention tells you to think!

How about just turning off your phone.

When i saw the pidgeon experiment, i cried, just cried, it feelt like torture, seeing and animal being manipulated so easily by humans when all he wants is his food, thats just, sad...

So what is the difference between databases through poles, card purchases, store club cards, and this information. This is what makes free trade free. They may have my information, BUT I have the choice to choose what I want. People can choose to opt out of Facebook as I did. It wasn't hard. Its just entertainment. Nothing more nothing less. Maybe will get better products. I AM NOT A Pigeon.. ROFLMAO

The problem with regulation, the Government has NO understanding how it works at all , even the designers and companies do not know how they fully work, the reason they do not know is Algorithms, computer networks are so complex and are written and designed by so many people, that come and go from organizations, they lose track of how they work.

Why aren’t other forms of media able to capture our attention as effectively as social media ? Why are they not using behaviour design techniques ?

It's about the perception that you are in control. This is what deceives you. (Makes me think of the movie, "The Matrix") Is it easier to have you look this way, or is it easier to have you walk that way? I hope this helped answer your question.
