For the door bell, when the door is closed and the lights are off in the TTR (tiny terror room) if the door bell button is pushed, then turn on a smart color bulb to red. Or maybe a strobe light on a smart plug.

Loved it ❤❤ I am little slow on implementation at my place but managed to start living with 40 smart devices via home assistant till now. Door Bell notification on All family members phone and speakers is one of the best things I've done. Showing it off to few people lead to 2 requests for automating their homes too but due to a full time Job, have requested them to wait a couple of months, as I am already working on custom Tasmota based relay boards which will go inside the switch panels of a typical India based switch panels. Thanks for sharing your Automation Ideas, A few of These can be very productive 🙏🙏

I have the same solution for my TV lights. It's one of my favorite automations. I have set a delay for when they will turn on when paused or idle so they don't turn on between episodes.

  • @wscottfunk
    @wscottfunk5 ай бұрын

Well done Reed! I do the same with my TV play/pause triggers. I have both the bathroom and kitchen light scenes turn on/off based on the state. I also use the adaptive lighting integration and it works well. Also, not sure if you've tried the Inovelli switches but they are awesome! I use the 2-1 Zigbee version and set up multiple automations depending on the number of presses of the buttons. For example, 2x of the small config button calls the robot vac to clean that specific room. 5x up, opens the garage door and 5x down closes it. 3x down locks all doors and starts bedtime mode. 3x up unlocks the front door only. The LEDs can be configured as multicolor animated notifications. Always look forward to seeing what you've come up with. Thanks for sharing your great ideas!

Some GREAT automation ideas. I've been using a Tempest weather station with Homeassistant for the last couple of years and found it to be very useful. I use the rain sensor and external temperature measurement to control whether or not the ventilation to our basement operates. If it is raining or too cold it dosent pull wold wet air into the basement. I use the UV sensor to alert us to th e need to wear sunscreen or a hat. The "feels like" temperature, which takes into account the effect of the wind, is useful to decide what clothing to wear. I also have an automated Polytunnel and the humidity and temperature readings are used to drive ventillation and humidification routines in the Polytunnel. The only sensor that I have found to be sometime unrelaible if the lightning sensor as I occassionally get false alarms, but where I live lightning is both uncommon and rarely a problem so this does not bother me.

Love the TV lights! I'll have to try that out. I've been watching the Eight Sleep for a long time now. Too bad most of the features are paywalled behind a subscription model and everything stops working if it loses cloud connection. As soon as Eight Sleep or another company solves those two issues, I'll be getting one immediately!

  • @goinginzane

Forreal. Premise of the 8sleep product is amazing (assuming it doesn’t have leaking problems), but for a product like this that costs thousands of dollars to ALSO require an expensive monthly subscription for basically all features is ridiculous. These guys have to have huge margins so there’s definitely business opportunity there to compete.

I have something similar but I just use the Aqara FP2 sensors. I use time & zones as triggers if either myself or wife get out of the bed with repeat - # - wait 10sec to shut it off. But the beauty is that depending where you go it will follow us, down the hallway and down the stairs then do everything in reverse. The pressure mat is a decent idea but really impractical and behind the curve.

I have the same set up for strip light under the bed. To reduce false detection, I have a bed pressure sensor and motion sensor. It works very well and almost no false triggering. The pressure carpet is nice but you gotta step on it.

Idk what was funnier the kid candy dispenser or you being told at the end to fix all your broken automations 😂 Great ideas! I have used the wind speed for a while now to turn off our holiday blowups as high wind destroys them. The camera motion on the reolink camera also works great as you did with unifi, as I have mine announce when vehicles or people are coming in the driveway and turn on lights and such at night based on those motions. Great idea on the TV pause, I’ll probably use that one! I have a TV on routine for the lights but I like the idea of dimming them up on pause!

Hey Reed, a couple of times in here I noticed you mention that you made one automation to turn things on and another to turn them back off (the basketball lights for example). I've been combining both the "on" and "off" into a single automation using the "choose" action which makes for a much cleaner automation list and makes enabling/disabling much easier.

@@SmartHomeSolver just figured out last night how to combine the choose option with local calendar. You can add timed events to the calendar with it’s start and end times then those get added to the automation as two separate triggers with templates to filter based on event name. They also get a trigger id assigned. Then the choose action options will execute the appropriate set of actions based on start or end triggers. So on and off actions are all in on automation.

I had an issue with my outdoor ceiling fans on my deck when I first installed them - high winds will destroy them. I was using airport weather until I got the Weatherflow. Also I'm now using the status of the thermostat (heat/cool) and the temperature outside to control the open/close of the cellular window shades. The next upgrade will be to modify the routines to pull the light intensity to determine if it is sunny or cloudy and get that extra tweak of solar radiation on cold sunny days. I turn on a decorative light 15 minutes before sunset - to remind us to check out the sunset.

I ran across a video on another channel where he used NFC tags to manage maintenance task (adult chores). He setup reminders in HA to nag him to do something. When he’d complete it, he’d scan the NFC tag near the task…ie clean dishwasher filter…and it would reset the counter/helper. Think of doing the same thing for air filters and smoke detectors. This could work for kids chores too assuming they’re old enough to have a phone.

@@SmartHomeSolver I'm very interested in making a chore dashboard too. I'm disabled and have caregivers that come to assist me daily and have a spare samsung tablet I'd love to set recurring tasks for them to check off.

Hi Reed - I want to set up an automation in my master bathroom. I want to measure the temperature of the water in the shower. When it's below a certain range. I want the lights in the bathroom to be blue as it approaches the desired range rad if it gets too hot flashing red. I currently have govee lights in my light fixtures in the master bath. I can't seem to find a smart temperature sensor for the shower head. Have you heard of anything like this?

  • @SmartHomeSolver

It just works when the Apple TV state changes to paused which gets triggered when a show ends. That’s what makes it so easy. I’ll have an article on my website soon showing more of the details.

"All your broken automation, no Ice cream for you" That was hilarious and to the point! HA broken automation list keeps piling up every month and you don't feel like deleting them as you spent time on its logic and secretly hope you'll make use of it again after tweaking, but you never do! 😅 10/10 for your automation by the way! 👏👏👏

That one hit too close to home. "I don't want to delete this one yet because it feels close to working, I'll just start a new one and leave that one for now" and ending up with a mountain of automations and never sure which ones are actually working and doing things and which are "running" but not actually doing anything.
