They advertise using interest rates and loan agreements (to individuals), or if they're working with large corporations or governments, why would they need a tiktoker? Secondly, Influencers are actually controlled by businesses. Influencers are seen as high risk methods of product endorsement, because they are unpredictable and often do silly things. As such, businesses require Influencers to sign multiple agreements to monitor their public image and behaviour. If the Influencer messes up, they get dropped.

Imagine one of your employees going meme-viral and you not even CONSIDERING turning that into an ad.

I think it was less the “content” that her video/likeness was being used for, and more the liability of a having an employee become so public for something that isn’t associated with the standards of the company. It was probably more to ensure that anything that the image was used didn’t come into affiliation with the bank.

She continued creating content after the first meme. I think continued content was what created the liability. If it was a one off picture, it probably would have been different. But even still, this shows the risk of uploading your photos and videos to social media. Once you post it, your image can be manipulated and reused without knowing it.

@@renoloverxoxo ah ok that makes sense! I’ve always worked union jobs so there’s no way I could be let go for something done outside of the job. That makes sense if it’s in the contract prior to agreeing to the job though.

I agree it is mean. But I don’t think that was all that met their eyes. It was clear that she wanted to indulge in the new found attention, and being a meme has its consequences on the dignity of someone. So if the bank had clients go to her, they probably won’t take her seriously or be like “oh, you’re the kombucha girl!” and it may or may not affect the image and productivity of the bank as a corporate space. I dont think that was a risk they were willing to take.

They could've atleast gave her a position w/c isn't client facing and more of a back office position that's all. She was willing to stay and the bank let her go because of a meme she didn't even intended too? I think it isn't fair, the company/bank was just selfish. Glad she is doing good now.

@@pumpkinspice4841 well, first, we only heard her side of the story. For all we know they did offer her a different position but she refused to take it (this has happened to at least 1 reality TV star and she represented herself poorly to get pity and public backlash on their company, when there was more to the story). Also, its a company with a goal to make money..... Being selfish is part of their motto. The fact is that she could misrepresent the company based on nothing she had done nor the company. A big client may refuse to do business with the bank because of her and the company did nothing wrong and neither did all the other staffs involved. So yes, they are being selfish and when you think about it, they made the right decision. She is happy and the bank get back to its status quo.

In the video she said they asked her to stop making videos or she'd have to stop working at the bank, and she didn't want to stop making videos. It wasn't about that meme.

This is eye-opening for people who make memes of other people without their knowledge. Corporate image or not. She had no control over what happened to her. Wanting to have a comedic online presence has nothing to do with how people chose to use her image. That's horrible. Arguably it turned out well for her in the end but it should make people think about how their actions may ruin someone's life.

The concept of people getting fired over making silly content is so weird to me, like I would get it if it's in any way interrupting their work or they're being racist/homophobic or whatever else because it's not a good look for the company and you wouldn't want someone like that working for you, but if it's just a thing they do on the side for fun why is it such a big deal? Like, if you tell your boss you play golf with a friend group on the weekends as a hobby you wouldn't get fired lol.

This makes me think about Cristine (Simply Nailogical) who is a fulltime KZreadr and still has a day job as a crime statistics analyst. Her boss was cool about her (and her boyfriend who is also an employee at the same place) doing KZread. Her boss even appeared in one of Cristine's videos. It is all about the leadership culture and the organizational culture.
