Many years ago, an older friend of mine invited me over to have dinner with him and his wife. He told me he would teach me about what he considered real music. Being a young dope under twenty, I said sure, Kevin. When I arrived, he and his wife put on a Van Morrison album, and class began. That may have been when I realized older people, including my parents and grandparents, had opinions and life lessons worth listening to.

Lots of people come to the realization that as you age you gain wisdom and knowledge. At 19 you seem to have come to appreciate it earlier than most of us. Perhaps you were more receptive since he was a friend and not a parental figure. Also your friend gave you a gift of and an appreciation Van's beautiful music. A good friend of mine turned me on to Van over 50 years ago and I appreciate it to this day. He recently passed and never got to thank him for it.

When you try that cancelling bullshit on people that merely speak their mind or said a bad word 10 years ago, there is nothing left to say. He has now shown himself to be a bitter old man that has become completely irrelevant. If he would have just spoke out and that he didn't approve of these things, that's fine and he has every right to that opinion. Now ge's just a bitter old fukk

You guys are just so adorable. Big smile on my face. Lots of great imagery in this reaction. Others have suggested great songs by Van morrison. I had so many friends that knew every one of their songs and I only ever knew their hits for some reason. But I even covered Brown Eyed Girl in my Honky Tonk band to Great audience response. As far as holding your lighter up? It didn't really have to do with any one specific thing. It had to do with greatness. If the majority of the people in the crowd felt like they were witnessing an incredibly wonderful or important moment together, that's when you brought out the lighters. And you had to be very judicious because there was only so much butane in any given lighter and it would run out. And if you were like me and used your pocket knife to damage it, that would make it flame out like a 3 ft flame in the air. But it wouldn't last very long at all. So it really is just a sign of respect for a great moment that everyone is sharing together.

Brad you are absolutely right. Lex is so sweet and I can't think of anybody who is even more sweet as your girl. Van Morrison has a knack for putting these feelings into words with a beautiful, enchanting melody. Did you pick up his strong Irish accent in his songs? Lex you mentioned his voice before. Probably due to Guinness and Irish Whiskey. Æx 🙏

There is a beautiful live concert by Van Morrison from Montreaux, Switzerland from 1980. All the songs from there can be listened also separately in KZread. The best songs there are 1) Troubadeurs 2) Satisfied 3) Tupelo Honey

Van the Man is the best! I live close to Tupelo (MS) and there are a few Tupelo gum trees in the back yard. However, Tupelo Honey mostly comes from the Florida Panhandle and is greatly prized and eagerly sought after. It is claimed to be amongst the best in the world. So... "She's as sweet as Tupelo honey" is a huge compliment and high praise.

Van The Man is lounging around the back yard, swinging on the 2 person swing, smoking a fatty music. Dude is so chill in his music. Grew up in the late 60's as a hard rock metal head but man o man Van Morrison was fuckin killer. In to the Mystic is his best in my opinion. Peace and love frim Ottawa , Canada

Ok, you two focused on the line, "Sweet as Tupelo Honey" But I didn't hear you guys contemplating how the actual the verses tied in with that.. "You can take all the tea in China and put it in a big brown bag and drop it in the deep blue sea." And the line, "You can't stop us on the road to freedom, you can't keep us cause our eyes can see"...." Men with insight , men in granite". It almost sounds like references to the American Revolution, Boston Tea Party, granite statues of the founders of the nation etc. Maybe "She's as sweet as Tuplelo Honey" is really referring to 'freedom' from Tyranny rather than a girl. Freedom is sweet as Tupelo Honey. I don't know, but those are some interesting lyrics.

It's a love song from the early 70's, and it's about a man's love for a woman who he thinks is very special. All that other stuff you're going on about is only in your American mind.
