I-84 from East Hartford eastbound used to be one of the most dangerous and neglected interstate highways ever. At the time, it was designated I-86. Right around where the old "END I-84" sign was, things got real ugly. When the realignment was finished in the early '90s, it was reassigned as I-84 and had become one of the most modern highways in the North East.

I never said I never would, I just don't enjoy I-95 from NY to New Haven and would much rather take the route I took. It might be another 2-3 years until I'm back that way, so who knows, if the weather and lighting are good, I may just film it. I don't mind you asking, you didn't ASK, you assumed.

I believe it's the second oldest, and the oldest carrying both sides of an interstate. The EB Kansas-side lanes of the I-70 crossing between the two Kansas Cities is a year older; it was originally called the Intercity Viaduct but is now also known as the Lewis & Clark Viaduct, the name first given to the WB structure originally built in 1962. (Ironically, it's the 1962 side that is currently being replaced by KDOT; the 1907 side is still structurally sound. MoDOT rebuilt its end of the viaduct in both directions some years ago.)

@@godness7770 I live in Atlanta, so I doubt that will happen, I don't see myself going off the Interstate through there as I'm on my way to someplace else. Here's a much better quality video from 2014, same route heading west. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dIxhx8eEc5mwoJM.html

@@Freewayjim aww...whenever you go by, please film it again. I plan to go up there one day. So, I will try to film it. Thank you so much!
Great video! Great music choice!!
I will be in Providence in about two months. Wanted to check out Hartford as well, but due to the lack of freeway connecting the two, I may not have time.
Wow! My everyday's way to work! From New Britain to Htfd Austin Organs (Woodland St.)! One morning I almost crashed at full speed into a kingsize... matress which must have fallen off someone's truck on this curve ca 3:40!! Tricky! Cool vid!! Thanks for posting! Makes me homesick...
More than I've seen anywhere else!
Great video...but what is it with Connecticut's highway designer and left exits, if I may ask?
@Freewayjim

Thanks, IDK, you'll have to ask those who designed it, it must have seemed efficient at the time, and I'm sure they did not project for the traffic volumes those roads now serve.
Video needs a slight correction: The exit for CT Route 9 south is exit 39A, not 39. Exit 39 is westbound only. It's where US Route 6 splits away from I-84, heading towards Bristol.
Good Job finding Milky!
I live right off exit 60 this was great! :)
You should do rt 34 and 63 in CT. They're both very scenic
I drive this every day - I wish rush hour was as smooth
I live in Newtown. I go see my cousin in West Hartford. Nice vid. Good texture
Wow. I just subbed. Everything I know cuz I live in South Windsor and this was a great video. Thx. 2:19 never knew that. I know that bridge.

They been replaced sadly with new signage
I-84 from East Hartford eastbound used to be one of the most dangerous and neglected interstate highways ever. At the time, it was designated I-86. Right around where the old "END I-84" sign was, things got real ugly. When the realignment was finished in the early '90s, it was reassigned as I-84 and had become one of the most modern highways in the North East.
Thanks for watching!
I drive this all the time!! I live in the south end of Hartford!!!! :D
Thanks, Brent has told me that as well, glad you liked it.
Awesome video thanks for sharing! :)

+Freewayjim You're so welcome xo :)
That and the Big Dig tunnels (93 & 90) probably are the most modern highways in New England.
4:50 Starting here, this is a very neat stretch of 65MPH highway to drive on, day or night (especially at night)!
Nice vid Jim, as always! :-)
Thanks, glad you liked it!
The was way went up to Mass Turnpike to Boston,Mass. Me & My Dad went to Mass. vacation last year. I hope to Cape Cod, Mass. Great Ride to check out to Provincetown.
Dear... Connecticut sure loves the left exits... or at least in that stretch of road.
That's just the way the road was designed back in the 60's.
im driving through hartford on tuesday on a 18 wheeler good information

estaré allí la proxima semana
I go this way everyday. Especially to get to buckland hills in Manchester.
Much appreciated, thank you!
Thanks, next is Worcester, then a few from NH then 5 from Boston so stay tuned!
There sure are a lot of left exits on this freeway...any reason for that?
I'd go with I-93 in Northern NH for that, and there is a video for it coming up.
Yes, good job! That is such a great song and sampling a former Beatle is even better. I will say, however, that I slightly prefer this song better in California (FreewayBrent's video); but nonetheless, great video. I CANNOT WAIT until you come back to Dallas. Our freeways and overpasses are being expanded/rebuilt. By next year, get ready to salivate!
Also, you never answered MY question, what is so great about New Haven as opposed to the other roads I filmed? I may very well film it someday, I think I have CT-8 North and I-84 east covered. I never said I never would, I just don't enjoy I-95 from NY to New Haven and would much rather take the route I took. It might be another 2-3 years until I'm back that way, so who knows, if the weather and lighting are good, I may just film it. I don't mind you asking, you didn't ASK, you assumed.
i live in Hartford lml nice video

Thanks, I shot I-84 westbound this past summer.
Thank you very much!
Thanks, I think that's the oldest bridge on the Interstate system.

I've driven on ct-4, ct-9, I-84, and I-91 so many times it's not even funny
I have done this route many times...
i think you were behind me around exit 39 and 39A what were the plates for that car if you can see
What's with all the left hand exits? Will ConnDot fix this in the future?
Thank you!
I live in Atlanta so I'm sure I'll film more videos in the south.
Sure thing, the amazing weather will continue in future videos.
Thanks!
Be careful with the next time you come back there might be electronic tolls
I have a question if I may, what is your job?
Did you know the Interstate 84 is changing again last time you were there the two sides of the highway were separated by two Bridges but then Governor Malloy decided to make one bridge out of them and now current governor Lamont wants to build a tunnel underneath Hartford into East Hartford using Interstate 84 and Interstate 91 you got to come back and check out the progress
My city, New Britain!
At 6:56, what software do you use to create those mile marker signs?

Those signs come from Wikipedia.
Nice job!
LOL, love it! thanks.

are you heading for boston

Great !!!
You are very welcome!
That's a bummer because you're so good at it. But you know? If you're doing something you enjoy, there's no need to have a job. True, there's a need for cash flow, but happiness always wins out.
I prefer to keep my personal life private, but I will tell you that it does NOT involve driving or traveling :)
