@ 2:37 is my fave thing on any New York State Interstate/Expressway, a twin-bridge span overpass with those "Bi-silver" rails on it coupled with the "New Jersey/West Virginia" bridge sound.

I see that they have started the reconfiguration of the exit 29S (I-481) to allow through traffic to continue on I-481S for when they make the switch of I-81 onto the beltway.

Nice to see one last video of this freeway before its ridiculous removal.

I agree it's a waste of money to force people to go out of their way to get from I-81 to the New York State Thruway as well as trying to get to Canada.

Its been a couple years since ive been to Syracuse, NY. Looks like it hasn't changed that much

If NYDOT is moving I-81 onto the loop (currently I-481) and dismantling the 1950's original, it's probably not a bad move, as long as traffic can move smoothly on and off the Thruway, and there's enough left to access downtown. Or, if they put the bridges back in so traffic doesn't do the big swan dive...

When I was 14 we went to Niagara Falls and on the way home we took i81 from Syracuse to Scranton. Its a nice drive but wasnt as good as i80 west to Lock Haven and US 15 north!

@@crollwtide9452 It's already started. As you can see in this video, there's construction taking place at exit 29S. The interchange is being reconfigured so that traffic I-81 traffic will continue onto I-481, which will become part of the new I-81 corridor.

Are you going to do Rochester and Buffalo and Niagara Falls after this?

Should've seen the traffic on here on the day of the total eclipse. It was stop and go from Downtown to Binghamton. 6 hours. And whats neat is the weather and lighting is exactly like the video so it brought it back a bit! I dont think Syracuse is ever getting that again.

Welcome to new York, even though it's upstate, that's ok, maybe one day you will visit NYC, it's crazy busy now.

12:31 the exit to 481 is closed and repairing, I hope the 481 highway bridges will be finished soon

I think that I-481 will be no longer exist in the future, and it will take over by I-81 to loop around the east side of Syracuse New York. They might also change its exit numbers to mileage based system instead of sequential (consecutive) order along I-81 in New York for 186 miles.

My favorite highway from Montreal down south of NYC. Only adds One hour or 100 km to the journey on any variation to regain 95 (I-476 , I-83, I-77)

@@MileageMikeTravels when i was last in Syracuse NY heading back from Quebec to the midWest USA i took US-20 from Syracuse to Buffalo NY instead of the i90 tollway lol... it was a bit scenic with many rolling steep hills and little towns here and there and not much for traffic if i recall ... and the power steering rack on my truck developed a bad leak during the journey 8^(
