Thank you for sharing a video that goes further and also explains the usage of the scans in freeCad 👍 as long time user I've never known the spline from mesh feature. Anyway before I import the scan i edit it in blender, remove the trash and dowscale the vertrice count. Then I export the mesh to stl.

A mask of my own face? I'd wear that.

Now I want to make masks of my kids' faces and wear that to their tournaments.

3D-printed blackface lol Really cool! I wonder if printing in a flexible filament would let it conform during natural movement from facial expressions I wish I knew the curve approximation technique in FreeCAD a few months ago. Also rather than extruding the mask and getting sharp edges I wonder if it would be better to use a minkowski sum to "grow" it more organically. I have used 3D minkowski sums of complex objects against cylinders capped with hemispheres to give a nice smooth growth.

I usually start on the most unique part of the part I can so it can be easily identified if tracking is lost, turntables make it so much easier to keep scanning, avoid black and reflective stuff. Are you getting any particular behavior that is making it difficult?

Blender is a great option! I don't use Blender for modeling though.

Very slowly, over time, from many sources. Freecadweb.org has some great documentation as a starting point.

How did you manage to scan your beard with the ferret? I have a big gap between my nose and neck 😂😂

Ha ha interesting. I think it was reasonably short, color could be a factor too.

    Is this possible in Alibre?

Alibre doesn't have mesh editing tools- if you saved the mesh into a jagged step file, you could import it and trace around section views for about the same thing. It would be more of a manual process but doable. You'd need a 3rd party software (probably freecad) to convert to step. You may need to do a mesh decimation (also available in freecad) if the STL is too heavy. The good thing about that workflow though is you don't have the overly complex spline profile around the eyes that freecad had. Wow, I really talked your ear off on this one.

@@JokoEngineeringhelp Thanks for the reply. I really wish Alibre would add the ability to import mesh files, or offer a plugin or standalone tool to convert. I have done this with a web based tool, but I don’t want to have to rely on an internet connection to do work.

Probably- I haven't used Blender much for modeling, so I couldn't speak toward what tools to use.
