In this video, I made a keyboard fully by 3d printing every part. From the keycaps to the plate to the case, all were 3d printed. Lets see how great this will be...

A lot of people have been saying this, but I’ll say it too; for the bigger parts, like the case and plate, FDM 3D printing works very well. However, for smaller parts, resin 3D printing is the way to go, since you can get so much more detail. However, your effort in making this keyboard (especially modeling the parts) is commendable; good job!

You can even get some pretty decent results with an old printer and basic, cheap resin. I just built a corne with kailh choc v1 switches and was having a hard time finding keycaps that I really liked. The ones I loved the most were 3D printed and constantly out of stock, with no models to be found anywhere, then I ended up designing keycaps myself. For those switches, it's actually pretty simple to design low profile keycaps. The hardest part is sanding for a smoother finish and hand painting the legends, should you decide to have legends.

Wait. You didn't take your stabs? That's the only thing I did in my build. I didn't lube the Oreo switches, but I did tape the stabs and used dielectric grease on the to reduce rattle.
I swear squashy's sponsored ads are so entertaining to watch I can never skip them, he always finds a way to make it funny

With the switch thing, you may want to look at nozzle sizes, it should be possible on a printer such as yours, just with maybe a 0.25mm nozzle instead of the standard 0.4!

They will probably end up very scratchy. So you should use brown filament and call them tactile.

Thank you for pressing the keys the way you did. I really appreciate the sounds and the consideration you took for us to listen to every key.
Please do it again, but with resin 3D printers! :D
This is the content I wish to make in the future. Absolutely love the comedy, even in the sponsored segments.
I appreciate the project! you could make this a series where you come back to it and fully flesh out a different major component of the keyboard. I think it would be well received. Great work!
Love the ad, the personality and the fact you shared the mistakes. 👍
I like how it actually sounds pretty good
I have to say, that manscaped ad is probably the best ad I have ever seen.
Your ad for manscape made me subscribe. Also the project.
Finally he did it thank you sooooooo much!
The only thing that destroyed this build is the stabs, you could probably get away using standard wires instead and it’ll be amazing.
The part of your videos with the sponsors are so good, I don’t skip them.

it sounds so good
this guy 3d printed a keyboard with a plate that is split in half and it sounds better than my keyboard.
I'm actually working on a fully 3d printed keyboard right now, I've designed switches that fit in the Gateron optical boards so there's no need to solder. I'll print it when I finish because I have and FDM printer and a resin printer. Might make a video on it when it's done.

why does this actually soud good Great video btw
Apart from doing it for the fun, I wouldn't recommend printing keycaps. I tried once for a self designed macro keyboard and got really rough finger tips after a few days. While my main keyboard is indeed 3D printed and hand-wired, I use a set of decent PBT caps. It just feels better and makes typing for enjoyable.

There's two alternatives: Print non-dished keycaps (weird) or spend the time sanding the dishes (time-intensive). If you don't like either of those options, that's totally fine, preference in keycaps can make or break one's experience, but I'm daily-driving printed PLA(=Plastic) keycaps and haven't had any issues with the two options I suggested. Again, not knocking your experience, I wouldn't use untreated keycaps like in the video for an extended period either.
@twinklingwater

@@LordHonkIncAfter I got my first set of PBT caps, I really liked the texture and weight. That's why I got a few more of those. Printing caps allows for "weird" or mere unusual profiles. I experimented with really high caps for hard to reach keys. So both attempts have their advantages. I also understand that meticilously sanding a bunch of caps is an achievement. Maybe I will give it another try some day. My keeb that has Kailh low profile switches could really use better caps.
The effort this man put into his sponsored ads is just as much as those printed keyboard
Omg that sounds so good when tipping
Yooooo that's a lot of effort to do man. Great job!

There are already 3D printable keyboards, most notably SiCK-68, but that's just a 3D printed case+plate (they are 1 part) the switches, stabs, keycaps are all normal.

the stabs dont rattle they're just scratchy how
Tbh Sounds pretty good campared to prebuilt one
I love it when he he shows the segment for the sponsor
the fact it still sounds nice
“MANSCAPE!!” oh man the ad i didnt skip 😂
This brings a whole new meaning to CUSTOM keyboard
Now that's actually custom. I have a couple other DIY hobbies and compared to that keyboard building seems incredibly non DIY and just buy-swap no actual making. This is actually good and even sounded nice! I think the usual foam, gaskets, switches and keycaos are fundamental enough to be bought. But even pcb design isn't too hard and if someone creates a good open source project I'm sure we will start seeing some insane features being built on top of it.
damn you really outdone it this time squashy
