After a mere 3yrs (equating to hours of use) my drive stopped working, but I wanted to finish the lawn and simply pushed it. Watching this video has given an idea why this was a big mistake. Eventually the mower 'stopped' and shreds of rubber appeared, with cord hanging out the hole from the blade shaft. I guess the belt became so loose it slipped off completely and ended up in the blade. Nicely made video with clear instruction. I thought it was too dark, but the last part showing the belt removal/fitting was nice and clear. The one problem I have is that the main bolt holding the blade is no way near as easy to remove. I wanted to make sure it turned anti-clockwise before I got a hammer out (thank you for clearly showing this). If there are any tips to loosen a steadfast it would be appreciated.

Oh ... as I think with @megaRusty64, I have just turned the mower over and found that HYM480SPR does not have an adjustment screw. it too is operated by a simply spring which appears to engage the drive by rotating the 'drive unit'. How on earth do I slacken the mechanism enough to fit a new belt? It is just a matter of rotating the unit up or down? Would be useful to have a video for this alternative mechanism. NB I am a bit concerned that I can freely rotate the drive shaft which doesn't seem to be engaged with the unit/belt.

Not that anybody appears to be viewing, but for completeness, after trying clockwise and anti-clock with no movement, I put full force into anti-clockwise. This literally almost ripped my shoulder muscle but it came off. I should have taken a picture of where the silly spring was attached, as there are three holes. I fitted the belt, but there is a rubbing noise when the engine is running. Now I see why they changed the retention mechanism, as this spring does not seem fit for purpose.

I'm about to check the belt on my mower, drive stopped working. Good video, very clear.

My 510sp has a adjuster nut on the cable but no adjuster nut assembly next to the gearbox to adjust the tension of the drive belt ?? There does seems to be some sort of tension system by way of a spring. I have adjusted the cable but there is still a weak forward drive… would this now only leave a worn belt as the culprit ??

@@HPPUK Can you not help? I have the same question. Does a worn belt cause speed of propulsion to slow? Like speed setting 4 is the same speed as 1-3.

@@OliHandy2008 Hi Oliver, I had a new drive belt arrive today, changed it and it’s made no difference to my mowers forward propulsion, very weak still. My conclusion is the small gearbox is worn out so I’ll be replacing that, I think I’m right in saying the new gearbox will come with the axles and gearbox as one piece. My mower is the HYM 510SP and I’ve tried everything but replacing the gearbox etc.

@@MegaRusty64 same. No adjustment other than cable. The only speed setting that has any tension is setting 4, which has the belt still too loose.
