Lol the Greddy absolutely has bellmouth runners, and unlike the hypertune they aren’t raised which would cause turbulence, especially by the time air gets to the last runners. Also Greddy has great volume over stock/hypertune. Do the test on the Greddy and prove the hypertune is better 😁 You practically told us at the start of the video you don’t wanna upset your business partners 🤣

I don't believe it was done in malice to misguide anyone or pander to partners as such (might be but who knows) but more so as the finer details of the Greddy being missed, plus it being discontinued are factors- it's pretty unlikely a discontinued Greddy plenum, even if it performs better- would impact Hypertune's sales. It'd be interesting to know if the non-raised bellmouths are possibly even better than the Nismo raised counterparts as the airflow is much less turbulent when the surface leading into each runner is more predictable, smooth and overall faster. It probably is close to the Nismo, better than Hypertune and better than OEM at their power level currently. Would be a good test, and they really should do it before switching the setup or enlarging the ITBs on the car.....

@@masonc1010 the raised bellmouths give a very small percentage advantage over a radius on the floor but raised helps air distribution between the 6, I don't think raised vs not would make a whole lot of difference though. If they had more or a radius on the bell in the plenum, longer runner with a taper down to the throttle bodies it might be a lot more different. But the greddy being a cast finish might not be a bad thing, depending on how an engine is used depends on the port surface finish, slightly rougher will keep a thicker boundary layer and possibly keep fuel suspended. So it might be better for street duties. Annoying to do but it would be an interesting comparison. The single throttle body manifold test will be there interesting one because the itb's are no longer a restriction ad disruption of the wave action in the runner.

Agreed. I run one, and its absolutely HUGE when its actually in the engine bay. I too think that the Greddy would do a better job then the Hypertune POS(Yes, no typo). I sanded down the inside of the runners before I put it on. I also sanded the exterior and had it professionaly painted gloss black. It flies under the radar all the time as people think its the stock intake :D

Back in 2008-2012 when I used to build RB’s here in the States the only reason we used the greedy intake manifold was because we mainly dealt with RB25’s. We just did it to clean up the inlet piping, any performance gain we made was just a plus. I think the RB25’s was where the greedy manifolds shined IMO. They were WAY BETTER then the 25’s manifolds lol

This helps confirm what I've been researching on my side. Goleby had a similar test for JZ motors and had similar results, a lot less down low but on the JZ it did provide top end on a 500hp motor. So for response, stick with OEM, or make longer runners to try and improve the bottom end torque, as 25mm is well too short.

The hypertune obviously cant scavenge. Put your hand over the plug when you drain the bath, thats whats happening inside the runner for viewers learning about this, its happening in the exhaust too. Also the GReddy does have a bellmouth, its not 360 deg, but its half there cast into the backplate. A hit with the flap wheel and the GReddy might beat the hypertune 🍻 👍

I have garage Ito 50mm itb's. I then machined my Greddy backplate out to 50mm as deep as I dare without breaking through where the bolts go and then took the air tool's to the rest to blend it all out. A lot of work can be done to the Greddy, such a shame it's discontinued for those who haven't got one. Bolting then on standard I can see what he's saying but who would? That's why it's split, so you can pest up the inside. We all love the mods.

The Greddy does have a 'bellmouth' design, however no raised pieces are evident which is why it seems that they don't exist. But they are certainly there, and the casting is noticeably smoother than stock/OEM (although nothing crazy- still a difference) Although it's discontinued, there is still a pumping market for older or discontinued JDM parts, Greddy manifolds included. It would be a really good idea to test the Greddy before changing the setup on the car to tell exactly how much difference there is. It's likely better than OEM, better than Hypertune and comparable or slightly below Nismo at the power level of the car currently.

Let’s be realistic though, if your going to 1000hp + then you’re not likely keeping the ITB’s. At this point I would say that Hypertune have banked on the ‘Looks’ taking precedence and if they say it’s Designed for applications over 1000hp then where do they say their products benefits are seen?

Missed opportunity. Should have at least tested the GReddy rather than just guessed it wouldn't be any good and then fitted the shiny plenum from Hypertune. The whole point of the GReddy plenum is that you can get in there and port and polish it smooth and radius everything. You bloody need to because they're pretty roughly cast. I don't know how you're measuring volume but I measured the OEM plenum at 3750cc and a standard GReddy plenum at 5750cc. The GReddy port matched and fully smoothed throughout went up to 6750cc. Also measured the runners as being a little longer than the OEM plenum. All the idle control stuff fits under the GReddy plenum. its main disadvantage is its heavy and the seal is a potential failure point.

Surely the lack of a specially cast/machined bellmouth isn't much difference to the well smoothed over transition from the plenum to the runners in the greddy? As long as there is no sharp edges I didn't think the addition of a belmouth that actually adds a sharp outside edge on the lip (only really seen in the nismo I admit) would be any different. If anything I would have thought that the uneven inside surface caused by the belmouths would cause more turbulence within the manifold than having a simple smooth casting transition like seen in the greddy, which has pretty much the same radius on the opening of the runners that is seen on most aftermarket belmouths
