Your ability to mention the artists names that are responsible for different box artworks and sculpts for the miniatures is really impressive. I truly admire your dedication to the game HeroQuest. So glad I found your channel recently. Love everything you do so far. Definitely my cup of tea 🤘🏻

The three extra quests could be solo quests for the included Druid Hero along with a wolf companion.

10 BP ogres is fine for very well equipped groups. I think if they implement the variable body point system, it is going to be more on the line to allow consumables that may heal the ogre upon death

Maybe 5 BP’s for the “normal” gray ogres and 8, 10, 15 BP for each unique “boss” ogre? I’ve heard you can cheese the ogre hit point track by attacking the “easier” ogres until they’re at 4 HP, then attack a bigger ogre for 1 HP (5 total) and the bigger ogre is dead. It makes much more sense to let each ogre have their own BP.

I like the inclusion of the wolf as it can stand in for the wolf companion, a player stricken with werewolfism, or a druid transformation. Maybe someday we'll get a Sir Ragnar which I speculate probably was meant to be included in Dread Moon and was replace last minute with the Knight as he has a specific icon in the questbook instead of a stand-in note. I'm really surprised I've seen no one mention this.

Maybe not here, but I know I’ve seen it mentioned multiple times - about Sir Ragnar. The Knight seems shoehorned in. For me, same with this Druid. I mean, why would a Druid who is one with the woods/nature be up in the northlands in the mountains trying to take on ogres? Seems the Druid would have been a better fit for the leaked expansion: The Jungles of Delthrak. I think lots of people wanted mythic tier content, so they brought us the Druid as they didn’t really have anything else to add as the original Ogre Horde didn’t come with a new hero either.

@@darth_smooth81 I imagine the sales margins wouldn't be as high as Hasbro would like, but I'd love to see additional character set packs like the named characters sets found on etsy so we'd have official sources and colors for them along with named minis from the other expansions, or additional monster packs as I like having more wolf minis and have been sourcing them from ebay from people who I assume have been buying additional expansions and parting them out.

Bohemyus agrees with the Portcullis separate piece idea, he posted about it in discord!

Yes I agree with that theory, the grooves in the frames really give that feeling, and the shadow along the line make me believe they are 2 separate objects.

I'm wicked excited for this one. Can't wait to incorporate more ogres into some heavy homebrew.

Found this video late (I blame my algorithm) and I am similarly super excited for this! I have yet to be able to get any of the Avalon Hill HQ products but I look forward to getting all of them. On the point of content not being merged, I prefer them being separate. It lets each expansion shine as bright as it can and on its own with no compromises. Plus it allows Avalon Hill to give us more products to buy, which is important if us HeroQuest fans want to ensure we keep getting more HeroQuest products in the future. (If they combined 2 products into 1, we only need to buy 1 product rather than 2, which hinders their sales throughout a year.)

There is so much in this expansion im looking for forward too. This has easily slipped in as what i can only say as my favorite expansion to be released so far. Bows, goblins with a bomb or explosive, those insane Ogre sculpts and of course.. the Arena and new Heroes... the animal ally wolf... its already looking pretty good. I cant wait until A.H. shed more light on all of this in the expansion. I would love to buy it now and get right into there.

Those ranged monsters are going to be very useful for spicing up Kellars Keep & Return of the Witch Lord. A great addition.

You might be hinting at Lean methodology - but there's little argument to be made there for the consumer. The seller doesn't have to care about your shelf space -- just fill the box with product, now buy, buy, buy! BwodeCast! ;)

I note the time carefully afforded to coughing. It’s relatable. It’s relevant. IT’S IMMERSION & I’M HERE FOR IT & the ogre tracker. 😷 💨 👹

To give me some hope about the tracker, the 3 new quests could be arena based and since the players know the monster stats from the cards, the tracker could be used for a gauntlet style a arena. X Ogres in the room, and if the players think they can just try to kill the weakest /smallest ogre first they might be surprised to find the 1st one doesn't go down until 2,3, or 4 HP more then what is stated on the monster card, but then the next ogre might go down after 1 hit. Now they wasted a few turns trying to thin out the weaklings but the heavy hitters and the fodder are still on the board, when the heroes thought only the big guys would be left for them to gang up on.

I can’t wait to get this! I’m from UK and have all expansions, Against the Ogre Horde was by far my favourite! Very difficult. Although standard monsters have 1BP, there’s no carrying potions between quests and with the Heroes not healing between quests too it makes it very challenging. But I do agree with the ogres having their own body points, I think that’s needs to be done. EXCITING!!

Lol, Spirit Queen's Torment is only coming out in Europe in February (and Prophecy of Telor next in spring), and you guys are already are getting pre release intel on the Ogre Horde! USA is now the pulsing heart of Hero Quest! Having played Warhammer Fantasy battle game in the late 90's/early 2000's I can assure you the heroes are halfings: in the warhammer universe, halflings and Ogres are deeply related. The Ogre which are a curse race forced to eat everything of what that lives around the world have a strange nostalgia connection with those midget creatures, just has if it's part of their former self personality just before the Maw (a sort of alien creature that looks like a titanic Sarlaac from Star Wars) fell on their lands millennia ago and changed their nature and became their gods. Sort of a Dark Crystal split race scenario. Avalon Hill is obviously keeping a part of the Games Worshop lore, at least in it's original shape or form which is that Ogres just feel the need to eat the halflings to gain their former personality back Still hoping for the release of the Crypt of Perpetual Darkness, at least outside of North America, for we didn't get the Mythic Tier version. PS: France didn't have the Ogre Horde, nor did Spain. It had Wizards of Morkar though. The Ogre Horde was more about the UK and Australian markets.

26:05 This is a super strong point. AH very clearly have seen the value in putting their slight spin on each of the expansions to update them. I love that they’re not merging content like you said. It gives me hope that we have ample HeroQuest to buy, collect, and play! Roll skulls!!

As a UK gamer who purchased the original Against the Ogre Horde pack back in the day, I was very disappointed by the actual Ogre miniatures themselves, so it is nice to see the new sculpts that look so much better.

okay I've changed my mind... you guys have convinced me that the red Wolf mini is NOT the "shapeshift form" of the Druid in this box by intention. what precisely it is, I'm not 100% sure, but leaning towards it being an animal companion or at least some kind of ally (instead of a full fledged hero). maybe it's a merc that has to be paid in scooby snacks. so far they haven't given us any red plastic monsters in remake edition. but anything is possible!

Thanks for your breakdown. I appreciate how deeply you think and care about this. Personally I think that if there is a bad end to this current ride, it lies in only reproducing what we already had. If the notion that the only value HQ has is in retelling a story told - as much as thats a highly workable mechanism for the actual classics - then the ride is as long as we remember it. I think that there are plenty of directions to take this that will preserve the game's fun and depth. You have to shake off the old skin if you're going to have room to grow. I also love that you talked about army building and figure repurposing! 👍😉

Oh no, burnout in KK? I like that one a lot, but you definitely have to love slaying greenskins...and it can be rough if you have to re-roll party members. Or was it just getting monotonous?

I agree, the druid may start off weak but if your patent enough to save gold & gear her up she becomes one of the more deadly hero's at end game. My advice is buy her a crossbow & have fun 😈.

I will keep predicting that “ sinister sorcerers” will be merged with “The dark company” it makes sense . Dark company was never its own expansion and wizards of morcar had the mercenaries and thats all you need 4 that. Great vid btw 👍

One halflin could be a druid and the other a ranger with wolf companion. The wolf should have the ability to sniffout secret doors and traps. While searching rooms and pits for danger, he can attack the visible wondering monster(s) before they attack the hero.

I'll most likely get this ex - pack too .... but my problem is finding other people to play - lol -

The UK expansions have been the ones I've been most excited for outside of "The Frozen Horror". I'm very curious about whether these are Hafling Druids, as you surmise, and if so, why the original Druid wasn't included. Is that wolf a companion, a familiar, an animal form? So much intriguing here. I hope Avalon Hill keeps leaking these for us. It's building up hype and if what I've heard about the layoffs is true, it gives them a lot of free press and buzz.

Hi Ash, enjoy your content for a year+ now. I played the original back in 1992. I have 2 expansions from that era (Kellar and Morcar). I still have my original boxes. I also have my friends original "Advanced" version of HQ. I bought the re-release of the all expansion so far, including Kellar hoping to match them with my old boxes. My main question going forward : what are the difference between "classic" and "Advanced" rules ? Are these version equivalent of the "US" and "Europe" version ? Thanks and keep up the content :)

Hi Elmeric, thank you for your support 🙏 Advanced HeroQuest is perhaps a misnomer in its title - while it is very much a Games Workshoo dungeon crawler with loose thematic ties to original HeroQuest and has supplemental rules for including items from the original, it is quite a different game altogether! the dungeoneering aspect is more modular, the enemies introduced are purely skaven, the combat is based on a different system, and even Hazards and traps are treated differently. One could easily theorize that Advanced HeroQuest was a pilot version of what would become Warhammer Quest - a much more polished, expanded and standardized game utilizing the same combat and dungeoneering concepts from AHQ. I think roleplay rulesets that add on to our original HeroQuest are much closer to a true "advanced" version of the game - even if they are homebrew!

I would not be surprised the three additional are solo quests for whoever the new character is in the pack. As much as people want a new druid, I am hoping for a brand new character. I guess I will have to wait for the other character expansions for new characters. I will be getting this one once it is for pre-order as well as finally order the monk since it is officially out.

I do wonder if the wolf will have a standard movement or a specific number dices. Maybe, it will have multiple attacks like the bears in Frozen Horror.

Hi Ash, thanks for the vids; love your stuff. Stoke for this expansion as I was a bit bummed by Telor's Prophecy. for this coming extension (and the others prior), would you recommend players can take these new heroes to start with the base quests and first 2 expansions?

I think it's fine to use any of the heroes as starters for a new game and build them up. Some players may prefer the playstyles suggested by some heroes and may find certain strengths make up for other heroes' weaknesses in the same party, allowing for some balance.

(For more precise context, I was able to complete the requirements of The Trial with the Druid and Barbarian -- and only those two heroes)

I Know that COPD (what an unfortunate acronym) is locked behind a Joe Maganiello wall, but I really hope that Avalon Hill can work something out. I missed out on the Mythic Tier (I didn't even know that HeroQuest was a thing when the Kickstarter happened), and I finally was able to get Prophecy of Telor and Spirit Queen's Torment. My friends and I just started Telor a couple days ago after not playing HeroQuest for a while. Was nice getting back into it.

People are still finding out about the re-release -- I am hopeful we will get more, lots more, and a mc7h improved version of the Joe quest. No insider info, just a hunch.

Great video! Alot of good stuff here, looking forward to it myself. I'd like to hear your thoughts on Avalon Hill's next move in terms of hero classes. They've already copied most of DnDs base roster, running out of obvious choices aside from maybe the Cleric or Ranger. What is your take on this?

I understand the feelings of the community to to original Druid, and the concept sculpt/art before that. I didn't mind it. I do find it curious if this is indeed a replacement sculpt. Why spend money in sculpting, research, mold making, ect.? They didn't do that for the Warlock or Bard. They did for the Knight, but there were legal reasons for that. (it was an exclusive for retailers [GameStop]). But that new knight sculpt was a kitbash/mod of the male and female sculpts. This looks all new if it is druids. But why no alt gender of the Bard and Warlock? Why the potential change in species? Human to halfling? I wonder if there was a contract from the guest sculpter Nikki Dawes Similar to Joe Mangellio's

I posted a comment earlier and it apparently failed as I no longer see my comment?!? So long story short: all of the new monsters look amazing and add a ton a variability to other expansions with ranged minis now instead of just having to pretend they have ranged weapons! As far as the Druid goes, it is nice to see that everything in this expansion is a new sculpt and isn’t reused from anywhere else! But I would have rather had a brand new hero mini - a hero class we haven’t seen before! As you said, there are lots of haters of the Druid - that it seems out of place in this expansion. Maybe would have made more sense to have a Druid in the leaked Jungle expansion (if that expansion actually comes into being).

As much as I’m excited for this expansion that I would love to get it on release date, my kids and I can’t find much time to play anymore. We are ways away from taking on this expansion - I’ll probably wait until it goes on sale on Amazon…..if it goes to Amazon, that is…..considering all of the canceled preorders I’m wondering what “retail” is going to look like for this release?!?

Based on feedback from AH, I do believe this will end up being retail (although that doesn't answer why the third party stores had cancelled orders - maybe a timed exclusive for a month or so?) I haven't seen any flagged comments, but YT is funny sometimes-- it might show me in a few minutes or a few days for approval; sorry about that!

But yeah, similar to Rise of the Dread Moon, the hero there seems out of place….i feel the Druid seems out of place here - hoping that since they reworked this into 10 quests, that maybe they actually give a reason for the Druid? Otherwise a hero from the woods/nature seems out of place taking on ogres in the mountains? Or is that just me?

If they ever do release Crypt of Perpetual Darkness I want them to put in extra models for monsters / NPC's in that pack that don't currently exist - make a proper expansion pack, not just more copies of the Mythic monsters in another translucent colour. So I prefer the Druid is here. I do think it's a bit odd that the Druid seems to have been race swapped - but could be a perfect excuse to tweak some of the rules (change the Hero form stats & the bonus the animal form gives). I do wonder where they plan (if they plan) to release Female Dwarf & Wizard sculpts - might not be the most exciting releases but it would be nice for non-mythic backers. And this now has me extra disappointed that we didn't get both genders for the Orc Bard & Halfling Warlock. I still think the Wizards of Morcar takes too much to turn into a full quest pack - I've been saying for a while they should take the components of 4 evil Wizards, new evil wizard spells & new hero wizard spells and build something wholly new (to be an effective Wizards quest pack) - I think it's a waste to print more men at arms & the 5 quests in that pack weren't very good anyway. I think they can do better. Good video.

What you say about the wizard quest is what i'm hoping for. A mix of more tools for the wizard aka spells and some more fleshed out quests for the evil wizards. And in line with that maybe a split of the four evil wizards between a hero wizard themed pack and a fighter/dwarf themed one, which would have some more tools aka skills/gear for the melee classes. They could instead of the standard mercs introduce special companions/mercs like an wizards apprentice or a dwarf something.

I'm not 100% convinced that this new hero is a druid. Maybe a rework of the druid character that is similar but distinct? I'm hoping this new hero is a goblin shaman!

The card art shown lines up exactly to the card art of the mythic tier Druid cards. I was hoping for a new hero rather than a male/female version of a mythic tier hero - but it is what it is. I’m certainly not buying this expansion for the hero, that’s for sure! But would have been nice to be an exclusive or new hero. But maybe that means we’ll get a Mentor sculpt in the Wizards of Zargon pack?!?! Hopefully with unique stats and isn’t just a generic wizard like in mythic tier….
