Beautiful ceremonies that I do not see anymore today in 2020.truly adoration of Christ.I can only hope that one day the Church will go back to these ad orations that I am sure are pleasing to God

+Chesterbarnes1 , Our Lord dies on Good Friday, so Our Lord is removed from the Tabernacle in the church on Maundy Thursday, and adored before typically being removed entirely from the church until the Resurrection of Our Lord. This is what His Holiness is doing in his procession. Out of respect for Our Lord, tradition developed that the priest, in this case, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, dares not touch the Host, so as to demonstrate that It [the Host] is truly Our Lord Jesus Christ present with us, and not an extension of His Holiness. His Holiness is not even worthy to touch Our Lord, but by the faculties granted to him during consecration by Our Lord Himself. Similarly, out of respect for Our Lord, He [the Host] is covered by the canopy (the umbrella) and proceeded by incense. In fact, in a Catholic church, all holy things are veiled -- for example, the Tabernacle (where Our Lord is kept), the heads of women (who possess the possibility of life inside of them), and in this case the Host Itself (covered by the veil and the canopy). What people below are remarking is that His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI seems to be the only person who understands the gravity of the situation. Our Lord is literally passing right by them, and all they can do is stretch out their arms to take a picture of His Holiness. Typically, out of respect for Our Lord Jesus Christ, we must fall to our knees. As Francis Cardinal Arinze so beautifully put, "If you truly believe that Our Lord Jesus Christ is present in the most Holy Eucharist, then why don't you kneel? Why don't you crawl?" +Chesterbarnes1 simply put, on after holy communion on Holy Thursday the alter is stripped and the tabernacle left empty an altar of repose where all remaining holy communion is kept. the christian people are expecting to pray for at least 1 hour commemorating the words of our Lord to Peter "Could you not watch an hour with me"mt 26:40. after which the communion is hidden signifying That our lord has been arrested.

Chesterbarnes1 Because of your query I looked up the words in English for the music being sung. I found that it was written by St. Thomas Aquinas and the music was a Roman Emperor's triumphant March. A Roman Emperor gave the Pope the Lateran Palace and is where this took place. St. John Lateran Church in Rome, Italy. This church even out ranks St. Peter's Basilica in that is the Cathedral of the city of Rome (not St. Peter's!) Carved on the front of this church is "Caput et Mater" of all the Christian churches in the world it is the Head (Caput) and Mother (Mater) of them all! A special place? Pax Christi!
