A soldier is a soldier. He is sent miles from home often by force. He fights for his country regardless of the right or wrong, but for his own survival. My grandfather was a soldier of the Wehrmacht. He served from Poland all the way to the Battle of the Bugle where he suffered a shoulder wound and was captured by the US. He won the Iron Cross for his actions in France. His brother, who had immigrated to America, also served in WWII but as a corpman on Iwo, Okinawa, Makin, and Saipan.

As a vet 5 times over, I am so proud of the way the vets are treated today. I remember that when I got out in 1970, all I wanted was a college degree, and an exit visa from this country. The viet vet was looked down on , and treated like a leper. Even the memorial wall was done in black, like they were ashamed to have to acknowledge we even existed. All other memorials were in white. We as a nation have always paid tribute to the fallen, and the missing. It is a shame our government isn't as honorable about where they place our service personnel in harms way, nor for the right reasons.

For every time a people cheer to go to war, this should be played as a reminder that all that is left, in the end, is the horror of loss for lives that should have been lived and love that never should have ended. So many souls sacrificed for things that, in the end, were pointlessly defended. Someone always starts these things and the rest of us have to finish them. Ten years later, we cannot tell the difference. A life is a life, friend or enemy.

One of my church members fought at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima in the pacific front of ww II and my father fought in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He told me in Vietnam he lost his childhood friend and his friends from High School. Going to the Vietnam memorial was very hard on him to see their names on the wall. ALL soldiers and veterans must be remembered regardless on who they are. American, Japanese, Germans, British, and countless others. A requiem will play to honor and remember the fallen.

For those not from the UK, this was from BBC Songs of Praise, which is a weekly Sunday Christian show. Kathryn Jenkins is standing in the ruins of Coventry's Medieval cathedral. It was destroyed in a massive raid by the Luftwaffe during the Blitz in 1940. Approximately 568 were killed in the city during one night. The WWII veterans are standing in the new cathedral, that was built alongside the old cathedral after the war. The cross in the remains of the cathedral is a replica of a cross of burnt timbers found in the rubble the following morning. (I think the original might be in the new cathedral) Below the cross is the words FATHER FORGIVE.

Watching this video, and watching their eyes, you can only imagine what they saw, and what their hands did. On their chest represent badges of honor, honor I would give regardless. Beautiful music by John Williams, and an even more beautiful video. Thanks.
Hymn To The Fallen was actually composed by John Williams for "Saving Private Ryan" and is only heard during the closing credits, but to stunning effect. Totally fitting title
As a U. S. Army Infantry Company Commander (Vietnam era) and the son of a WWII U. S. Naval Aviator I can tell you that if it were not for the RAF, the British Royal Navy and the leadership of Prime Minister Winston Churchill we would all be goosestepping our way down Pennsylvania Avenue. Thank you, you GREAT Band of Brothers for our freedom today and for lessons on how to keep it.
Id like to share if i may a poem which i wrote for friends As i stand at your side you are watching over my grave as you knelt down to tender a tear fell from your face for i was there for you you didnt see me you didnt hear but im always there for im an angel now ive gone sending love & blessings

"Never have so many, had so few, to thank for so much" - Winston Churchill
My dad now sadly passed , on coming home wanted to remember all his mates that died but realised there were too many. So he chose 1 name to hold that man was Sid Savage. So in the passing years we spoke his name every year. So as 11.11.11. comes again we speak Sid's name & now my dad Jacko. R.I.P. & thanks
That's a very powerful and moving tribute to all those you gave there life's I will think of this hymn prayer for the fallen for ever.

Freedom that is Truly theyres and theyr families for they also payd the price of freedom, they had to deal with the great loss of these great men for so many years. Thank you. Being in the infantry myself, I know that you do not win wars from the air or sea. You win them on the ground. Thank you again - for your understanding, for sharing you perspectives and insight with me and for your service. Most sincerely.
This is a stunning piece of video. The haunting yet beatuiful music along with the pictures of the veterans. The way you can actually see the thoughts, tears, pride and passion in their faces as the camera goes past them 10/10
This brings me to tears. I remember my grandad who fought in World Warr 1 and the shrapnel in his leg and what a wondreful guy he was.
Very beautiful and moving performance.
I'm from Brasil. I never took military service, but I respect the military honor. There are some who could do evil in a battlefield, it's true. But the great part are just doing their job, the best they can. For the fallen, my salutations.
But whatever i pay greatest Respect to everyone who fought this bloody war... R.I.P all soldiers which rest in earth abroad. amen
Praise be to God. Our must humble thanks and gratitude to the fallen.
Songs of Praise. a UK TV program which includes various hymns etc
A beautiful video! May peace be with those whose nights are haunted by memories or battles fought and comrades lost.
To my grandfather, as a salor in the U.S. Navy during WWII and Korea you went above and beyond the call of duty, rest in peace salor. Because as a United States Marine It is now my job to do the same.
Amazing....................
Thank You - Thanks to the families whose mother's, fathers, sisters and brothers, people I will never know in this life - who went before and died for my freedom long before I was born. May God Bless your families and may the memory of the departed in battle, who died for justice and truth, gave their lives that we can know peace.
thank you for the MUSIC and the VIDEO!!!great job!!!peace and love!!!
as my late grandpa (WWII veteran) said it with ironically: "when there are two kids fighting with a pop guns behind the corner, there is always a war...". Btw very touching tribute to the fallen! Thanks for this!
This Song is For every fallen Soldier in every Country god bless them all
These guys gave everything for us. Make sure you deserve it - we owe them, They are all heroes - forever,
...in memory of all those brave who lost their lives for the greater sake of our nation...all lost..but never forgotten...
The hymn to the fallen by John Williams is the saddest song Ive ever heard...:( Its so amazing
i played this track when i drove over the re-build of Pegasus Bridge in Normandy France - the original is about 200 yards away in a museum because of the increase in traffic weight, still bears bullet holes from D-Day - the first Allied soldier killed was on Pegasus Bridge June 6th 1944
I can just imagine the thoughts running through the minds of these citizen warriors as they remember the many who fell around them in the thick of battle. The pain inflicted on such young men and women that will never be erased in their lifetimes!
yay...i love this tune....and its cool that its filmed at coventry cathedral cos im at uni there and i walk through it almost everyday!
How can something so wonderful, be so sad.
