HydroFLEX: The UK's first Hydrogen train
The HydroFLEX project is a groundbreaking partnership between the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education and railway rolling stock company, Porterbrook.
A UK first, its aim is to demonstrate how hydrogen could be deployed across the rail network to offer a cleaner alternative to current diesel trains. Find out more: www.birmingham.ac.uk/research...

This techonolgy needs to be rolled out on the East West Rail link being rebuilt at present between Bicester and Bletchly, Hope whoever run this rail franchise get hold of this techonolgy.

Unlikely, currently costly, and 90% of hydrogen isn't 'green'
Remember seeing it under test at GCR. Anything that improves our environment, I applaud
Bravo
Where will it operate?
Maybe Class 317 and Class 321 EMUs could be converted into Hydrogen MU. Also is this the Class 799? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_799
Hopefully this time we won't sell off the technology for someone to sell it back to us like the pendalinos!
🇮🇳💐💐🌺🍁⚘♥️🙏🏻😊👌🏻 i love eco friendly hydrogen train i wish i was there 😊⚘♥️🌺🍁💐💐🇮🇳
I like the idea of hydrogen locomotives. Then British rail could retire the overhead lines and restore the beautiful view and architecture.
Why don't they run it on steam but heat the water with hydrogen? that would be zero emission and rather cool, they would also be able to have a whistle on the train.

Steam lacks the power to accelerate trains to the speeds quick enough. Steam trains are the slowest trains of the lot. No good for UK rail which is growing in usage rapidly. Steam trains are basically resigned to tourist lines.

@@WelshGuitarDude Would be great to see Hydroflex Steam on the Nene Valley Railway in Peterborough and the Class 799 on the re instated Oxford to Cambridge line, when up it and running, As it not being electricify.
Use electricity generated from gas to generate hydrogen, to burn to generate electricity to drive a train. Hideously inefficient and not environmentally friendly.

The point is you fill the hydrogen tanks from a renewable fuel source. Its a good idea.

"Can be created from renewable sources" therefore it should be. Besides, anything's better than disgusting filthy diesel. Better for the Planet and for peoples' well beings.
