i have worked for the 1st company that invented Catalyst for Cracking, and left there to join one of the oil majors. Good Video
At 3:03 you said that the catalyst breaks down the carbon chain but that's technically not the case. actually the catalyst speeds up the rate of the reaction by lowering the activation energy without itself being chemically changed. It technically doesnt actively break down the carbon chain, it speeds up the rection that does. Other than that good video and great animations.

Yeah, they remain unchanged which means they can be used again and speed up the rate of the chemical reaction.

A catalyst remains chemically unchanged by the END of the reaction. It can and does take part in the reaction itself. Please check the actual mechanism of catalytic cracking; you will find that it is the catalyst that is responsible for breaking the chain

I will say thermal cracking is still alive and well in refining today. Steam crackers/cokers are the beating heart of many a refinery

Great video! But at the end, you said that its a process in which larger alkanes are turned into smaller ALKANES and an ALKENE molecule. I believe it's the opposite. Only 1 alkane is formed and the other are alkenes molecules.

is there an opposite of carbon cracking?
Shouldn't there also be cracking with hydrogen being present, since in thermal and catalytic it produces some alkenes that are unwanted with some things.
