Engineers Australia says almost half of the migrant engineers in the country are either unemployed or working in roles that didn’t fully utilise their skills and experience. Some employers want Australian experience or can be challenged by cultural or language differences.
Enter the Hydro Tasmania group and Engineers Australia with its new Global Engineering Talent (GET) Program, a 12-week internship backed by a six-week development course preparing participants for Australian workplaces.
Hydro Tasmania sponsors Surendran’s participation in the program and pays him a casual salary during his internship with the Battery of the Nation engineering team.
