I have just got rid of a hundred (?) of hydrangea cuttings :-) I have also pruned most of my roses, it took me three days to do that! It is good to see your face again, Paul. Have a great spring!

So nice of you Jolanta, enjoy the warmer weather. 🌸 ‘Got rid of 100 cuttings’ I wonder what that means: you’ve pruned the hydrangeas and it’s all on the compost heap, you’ve just sold 100 cuttings, you have 100 cuttings beautifully potted up in a neat line wending through and around that fab rose collection of yours. Spill the beans! 😆

Hi Sue, hope your weather knows it’s Spring next week! 😆. Our Spring is all over the place but as I’m off on holiday to the Canaries tomorrow, at least I’ll be warm! Give your hydrangea a good feed and it might double the blooms….to 2. 😂 Have a good gardening season 🌸

@@paultsworld our weather has been all over the place too! We do have some perennials that have broken ground so that’s a good sign, I hope lol We will definitely give it a good feeding and with a bit of luck, we may get two flowers this year 😂😂 Have a wonderful holiday :)

SO glad to see and hear you Paul - even though your weather conditions are so different. I have lost good healthy shrubs and had the darn' wildlife eat the rest that even the pots look sad and bedraggled. Still, there are some signs of life and photos to prove what we once had. It's good to know that yours are doing well. thank you.

Hello Wendy, sorry to hear some of your shrubs have suffered - I wonder if the extremely wet weather has contributed? Still need a few more weeks to see what has done well - or not - from this Winter - although the hydrangeas seem to be quite reliable.

Great hydrangea tips, Paul. I’ve had a few hydrangeas over the years - mainly macrophylla and endless summer which bloom profusely, while my Lacecap hydrangea has struggled to bloom at all, though it has plenty of gorgeous green leaves. All three varieties are located in the same north facing bed. Any idea why the Lacecap would consistently perform so poorly?

That is a puzzling one Paulette! I would have thought if the macrophyllas do well then the lacecaps should as well. You obviously are pruning them right, wonder if they want some extra feed or more or less water or is it too hot for them - I can’t imagine it’s any of those…just trying to throw out ideas.

I just stuck cuttings from my panicle hydrangeas yesterday-- so seeing your video made me feel like I hadn't done it too late! Have you done it before or do you know about how long it takes for them to root?

The panicle hydrangeas seem to bud out quite late in Spring. I have taken hardwood cuttings before and they have been mostly successful - I expect there to be leaves and small roots over the Summer but I don't expect to pot them up till the Fall. Hardwood cuttings is a slow but easy process.

Hi Paul, My Angel Trumpet plant arrived today. At the moment I have just left it in my unheated green house. Being that I am in sunny Hampshire, I am trusting that this will be OK. Any tips to what I should do with it next. 😊

Congratulations Pauline on your new spectacular plant. My advice would be to not let it get cold and not let it dry out but also not overwater at this stage. Depends how the roots are…once the roots show at the base of the pot you can repot to one size bigger and use compost with a bit of food. Once the weather is much warmer and it has filled that pot with roots then it’s time for a really big pot with lots of manure and water - by July I’d be giving it a full watering can each day and as much food as you’ve got! Good luck 🌻

I would say yes. Just make sure you fill the new hole with ericaceous compost and maybe add some slow release azalea food. Water the hole right before you re-plant the hydrangea and then water again once planted...making sure it doesn't dry out this Summer. They are quite tough plants and respond to food and water.
