Lots of brides are nervous to use Hydrangea and hear rumors that they are super sensitive. While it's true that they don't like extreme temps, they are SUPER long-lasting and hardy if they have plenty of water.
In this video Amy talks about:
- When to avoid hydrangea
- How to use them in a bouquet
- Using Alum and Crowning Glory to extend their life in foam work
- How to bring them back from the dead if they fall out of water and wilt on you.

    Love your videos, I’ve designed for 25 years and you are spot on with your advice! And I love the sense of humor, sometimes if we don’t laugh we will just cry…don’t get me started on the peony wedding from hell ! Lol

    Great tips! Waiting until the last minute before the event is exactly what I do when working with hydrangeas and structures with foam. I learned this lesson the hard way, early in my floral designing career!

    Have you ever thought about doing a video with farm table arrangements with candles greenery a full from start to finish product? Same for round table? I’m a mom who will try, and hopefully succeed, in creating a round table setting which includes 16”, 12”, 4” (all 4” diameter) glass tall vases with floating candles, and a 4-6” compote arrangement. Need help with layout, I’m ordering florals from you and have selected a professional guidance from one of your designers, but I’m a visual learner and need a video for inspiration and help. I would do it at home but this is a cross country wedding, and all the supplies have been sourced at venue site. Could you make my life a little easier with a video? You can use which ever florals you want, but can you add dusty miller in the greenery? BTW I am so grateful to you and your team for providing us DYI inspiration and guidance.

    So you're wanting me to style out a rectangular table and round table? So adding a runner, florals, chargers, candles, etc??? Just making sure I'm understanding what you need! And actually, this is on our list to do so it's encouraging to hear it's needed. XOXO

    Yes. I would love this, for the round table could you demo with a compote 6” vessel, three tall glass cylinders with floating candles 16”, 12”,and 9”. Just to be as specific as I can be, don’t laugh too hard as i need help!

    Thank you for this video. I am getting married in July. hot and humid. I'm not worried too much about the centerpieces (they will bee indoors) but I was wondering if I could use crowning glory on the hydrangea bouquets after I build them to keep them from wilting (pictures are outdoors), would that be overkill?

  • @FlowerMoxie

    @FlowerMoxie

    Yes, personally I spray down my arrangements with Crowing Glory, especially in hot weather months! They'll do fine while you are taking pictures, just remember to pop them in a vase when you're not using them.

    Thank you so much!! Doing a wedding with hydrangeas and have been nervous about it. can you spray with crowning glory during prep and then again once bouquets are made? Or is that too much drowning glory?

  • @FlowerMoxie

    You can never use too much Crowning Glory! Spraying them during prep and again one you've used them will be perfect. Hydrangea are big drinkers and can actually drink through their petals as well! So giving them a misting often will never be a bad thing!

    Thank you for this super helpful tutorial! How long will they last without water, but in a foam and with the alum? We could put them in right before the reception, which will last 2 hours. Will they be okay?

    Can you put the hydrangea in the water pick then insert the water pick in the foam? Or would the hydrangea drink up that water pretty quickly? Thanks!

  • @FlowerMoxie

    @FlowerMoxie

    They're pretty heavy drinkers so we usually don't water pick them. Do a test first to see how quickly they drink from the pick!

    Hi Amy! How do we know how to price flower stems? Market value?

  • @FlowerMoxie

    @FlowerMoxie

    5 ай бұрын

    That depends! A lot of factors come into play when marking up stems. Pay attention to what other shops in your area are charging and base your pricing off of that.

    Hydrangeas are my favorite but I fight with them everytime I get them at Trader Joe’s :( I use alum, have tried soaking them, put the stem in boiling water, etc. I always have one that won’t perk up. What am I doing wrong??

  • @FlowerMoxie

    @FlowerMoxie

    Hydrangeas are definitely a tricky stem! There's always one in the bunch that you can't revive. Try giving them an angled cut on the end of the stem, or smashing the end of the stem with a hammer. This will open up the fibrous center of the stem which is how the stem drinks. Make sure to replace the water in your vase with fresh water everyday and keep them out of bright sunny light!
