    Hi Joe, thank you for the brilliant sharing! I've got a question for you. Assuming that I do *not* want to hybridize but instead pollinate 2 seperate plants of the same variety that carry the trait I desire (i.e. variegated leaf pattern) my query is this. Will pollination up the odds that the resulting offspring are going to duplicate & exhibit the best of both parents' traits (variegated leaf pattern) or otherwise, look significantly different (e.g. exhibit less pronounced markings) from the parent plants? Thank you in advance!

    Yes there are % in play to up or lower the chance of traits carrying onto the off spring. However mother nature can toss curve balls at you. Just like when you have children from the same parents with different color eyes.

    @@Chalily Perfect! Thanks again, for the prompt reply. Guess the only way is to find out but first, I think I'll seperate the tubers so that way I'll have more plants to mess around with just in case the % success rate takes a nose dive. Wishing you all the best with your business, Joe!

    and If I don't do anything with a flower will it self pollinate or something?

  • @MasonAldridge

    generally bees or even some types of flies that have visited other water lilies will brush up against the flower and hopefully knock some pollen into the middle cup. sometimes wind can just carry pollen and naturally fall into the middle.

    I'm new and just saw this video. I have a couple of questions: 1. Can I cross a hardy and a tropical? 2. If the waterlily is grown from seeds, in the next season how do i propogate this waterlily - like any other hardy or tropical? - thank you.

    Hello I was wondering what you meant by first day and third day lilies. Do you mean the first day they bloom of the season. My lake has white lilies and my grandmothers lake has pink. I was to cross breed them. But it is June and they have been blooming for some time. Is it too late ? Next summer would I have to wait and watch for the first day and third day they bloom?

    Each flower has a life span. I was meaning the very first day that particular flower opened, = first day flower.

    Please tell me how to collect seeds and how they are and how many days ofter the seeds are formed

  • @Chalily

    @Chalily

    5 жыл бұрын

    The seed formation will vary depending on the temperature. After pollination occurs I would place a bag or cheese cloth over the flower so that when the seed is ready it is held in the collection bag.

    Great video! I have a couple of questions 1. Saw another video where they took out the male flowers and mixed it with some pond water before pouring it into the female "cup". Is that viable as well? Link to that video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/d5uqx8uIYdbPo6g.html 2. If a female flower successfully gets pollinated will it still open the next day? 3. Which parts (if any) of water lilies are edible? Thanks!

    Thanks for sharing, I never have seen that prior. Yes, the flower usually will open the next day. I have never eaten any of the parts of water lilies.
