I think the idea of the old one is cool and originial, but the execution was bad, both in the anime and in the manga, I think this one was made because they saw it was a story that has a lot of potential, the new one took the cool idea from the first and executed it really well making more believable characters

@@soulofexistence Well, you must consider the context behind the original Dororo Dororo manga was probably the first almost-Seinen. Before Dororo (1967), there wasn't anything like that. In fact, back then there was a lot of mothers complaining about the content of this manga! Besides that, there was a lot of troubles making it, mostly at the last chapters, where the author had issues with the publisher and it ended up being cancelled After Dororo, Osamu Tezuka made more complex and creepier mangas, like Black Jack (1973), which is clearly based on Dororo, and it was created in an era where this type of content was more acceptable. (In fact, Dororo new version takes a lot from Black Jack) And, well, it's because of this that sometimes it seems kind of unfair comparing these versions. It's better say that each version has his pros and cons, and that's it

@@Jennihazama Yeah of course, Tezuka did a lot of masterpieces and I'm a fan of Black Jack as well, I admire his work a lot, It's just that sometimes there are issues that are out of the control of the mangaka and things just turn out the way they do, for example the original Dororo manga not having a proper ending, there were a lot of flaws with the original and I'm not saying it's an abomination, I enjoyed most of it, I'm just glad there is a version wich tries to fix all those issues

@@soulofexistence Yeah, they fixed some of the flaws from the original, although it has new ones, like the fact Hyakkimaru only used his katana once in the entire anime xD I though they will make him use it when he regains his arms, but nope, so why give him a katana anyway? I agree with you, I think one of best things from the 2019 version is that they finally gave Dororo a proper ending, which is also loyal to the original author style ...It seems many people didn't like it, though This vers. also has a more organized way to tell the different stories. Tezuka was amazing writing self-contained chapters, but writing long stories, not so much

In the original (in the scene right before this one) it is actually an old emaciated man who asks Dororo for food to which Dororo replies in a similar manner as the new one (he gets the old man food of course but by the time he returns it is too late).

old anime have 26 épisodes the new will have 12/13 so it's normal they develop the aspect of Dororo who are " I am young but alone, I have to survive by myself " talking with the dog , directly in the first episode in the old version as the anime they first show Dororo as a punk and poor boy but after they show how tragic his life is in the old you can see Dororo how he's more provocating and how he's moking peoples , not like the 2019 version 1969 : he's poor, rob, but funny and moking peoples 2019 : He's poor but gentle , okay he's moking them too but just after they show his nice and sad part of him

In the original the dude is missing 48 parts of his body but looks totally fine... The 2019 version is done better I think. 12 missing parts, genuinely looks like something is wrong, and really has to fight with a crippled body.

idk why but i´m so emotional over Dororo helping Hyakkimaru with his arms even though he was showed to be perfectly capable of fitting them back himself. Such an endearing detail to me, and enlights the fact that even if he´s an OP guy, he has disabilities, to which he has adapted fairly well but still can get in the way of his daily life, and having someone who acknowledges your independence at the same time they are willing to do these small things to help smooth the way for you can really make a difference.

The 1969 was based on the manga. And the manga has a pretty bad plot. I mean it was just weak, but the idea was great. The current anime is a lot different from the manga, also longer (and hopefully has a proper ending). If it were based on the manga it would already ended (it had like 30 short chapters). but the anime will have 24-25 episodes which is great.

I honestly both like the old AND new Hyakkimaru. It's hard to see them as the same character, but that goes for a lot of the show. I hope people can still appreciate the original after this. He was a legendary manga artist, one of my heroes. :) (Also I miss Hyakkimaru's incredible levels of sass. XD)

The thing with the old one is that you don't even notice that Haykkimaru is a cripple, he talks, "sees" and looks like a normal human being, in the new one you clarly notice that there's something worng with him

I hate to break it to you but even back in the old days people expected money in return as well. No one would, nor should, work for free in a huge project like that. Also, are you trying to tell me that there was no effort put into the new one? Because If that's the case you clearly didn't watch it. Also, I don't hate the old one, I think is good, and the art is pretty good too. Outdated, but good. I think is unfair to compare both in terms of art since the are form completely different times. What I can compare though, is the writing. In the old one, when Hyakkimaru recovers a body part it doesn't really make a difference since he could do everything like a normal person from the beginning. His appearance doesn't change much also. In the new one you can clearly see a difference when he recovers a body part. I also think the de new art style is more fitting since it's a serious story, but I understand that they couldn't go for that in 1969 because it would have been very difficult to animate so I'm not going to comment about it.

I think the 2019 one did a good job of interpreting the source material for a more modern audience without changing the core theme too much, but making it much more interesting. the 1969 Hyakkimaru is a very old anime cool warrior dude without a whole lot of depth.

I like how the new series points out that Hyakkimaru seems weaker as he gains new pieces of his body. It makes sense considering he goes his entire life not being able to see, smell, hear, or even speak. So he would have a really hard time adjusting to senses he doesnt even fully understand let alone have to use.

Hyakkimaru being unable to speak at all at first and slowly gaining parts of his body is fantastic! Love this series already.

Usually I prefer old anime, but honestly I think 2019 Dororo is better, especially in the character department. Hyakkimaru is much more interesting in the 2019 series. Though I do really enjoy the animation style of the 1969 version since I'm a sucker for old stuff. Though I like the art style of the 2019 version more despite the 1969 version being the art of the late and great Osamu Tezuka.

both versions are good. the old version was ahead of its time, and really tried to mske the most of its limited resources. animation was very expensive back then, so they couldnt really add extra scenes, they had to either make the story simpler or cram as much info in one scene. the newer version is objectively better, because it had way more resources and more knowledge about story making, but it wouldnt even be made if the original version wasnt there. 2019 remake is just that, a remake. its a remake of a widely beloved anime that was very good for its time, and it deserves some recognition and respect too

I like how the 1969 makes the boy seem to be more desperate. But it lost me afterwards. The whole thing isn't taken as seriously anymore. 2019 on the other hand, takes the storyline so seriously & elevates the whole story to another level, which renders the manga unreadable for me. Hyakkimaru was so excellently portrayed in the modern anime. The atmosphere was so splendidly executed, I've got nothing to complain. It's certainly has much wider potential demographic than 1969-children-like take on the story.

Old manga and new anime had their faults, but nevertheless both were good written stories and had their charms. Old manga was, afterall the first to use this magneficent idea of Hyakiimarus state and mission to get his body parts back by killing certain demons. Not all relationships or behaviours were great, but I think that they were very human while the action was usually sci-fi based, which is a great balance, at least for my taste. The ending left the reader craving for more, which is painful because it was never fully satisfied even with so many adaptations. New anime showed a more realistic side to the state of Hyakiimaru and more good-willed sides of characters. Dororo is a good example. The animation was chief kiss just like the openings and endings. Side characters had their heartwarming stories that didn't disturb the story. The ending was awesome, as the viewer could see such a satisfying reunion of wholesome protagonists. (Altho, it could not stop the craving from old manga ending since it's an adaptation, and not original story..... *crying) So, all I can add is that there's the best Dororo adaptation (in my opinion) being released for some time now. It's new manga titled The Legends of Dororo and Hyakkimaru. Go check that out.

*I like the new character of Hyakkimaru...... He is silent and kind of oblivious which makes the character great* ....

In the original he could see, talk and hear what the heck!😂😂😂

Preferably do not compare the new Hyakkimaru with the old one. In Dororo from 1969, Hyakkimaru met Biwamaru (the blind monk) time before meeting Dororo, and he was who taught him that he can be happy although his disabilities, also he advised him continue living and struggle to survive. In the new version, Hyakkimaru didn't meet Biwamaru before. That, and the fact he can't talk at all, make him a VERY different character, at least for now (If you notice, he seems kinda depressive in the new version, this will change in future episodes, of course) The original Hyakkimaru was depressed too in some point of his life, but he got over it (before he met Dororo). The new Hyakkimaru not yet, and that's a big difference between both characters -[EDIT]-: Many people don't stop asking about how he can speak and hear in the old version, I answer them: He doesn't speak, he talks telepathically since he was a baby and just moves his lips to pretend he does. Also, he can't hear but he can sense what the people want to say, like the new Hyakkimaru, it seems Both have a kind of extrasensory perception, by the way

It helps that Tezuka was a pacifist and used the setting of Dororo to illustrate how horrible war can be. In fact, Dororo doesn't romanticize the Sengoku period (the setting where Dororo takes place)

I actually kinda like that in the newer adaptation Hyakkimaru doesn't speak (at least for now, not yet) since he still has to kill the demons to get back his 48 body parts and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have any if not little organs in him for him to be able to speak in the first place. However he can digest so he must have some, idk I might be thinking too much.

The 60's anime looks pretty cool. It has that subtle samurai vibe where action is few swift moves in silence. The horror is also super effective at 3:20

The 1969 one is still beautiful; especially given the technology then.

In the new version, hyakkimaru in the scene have not be able to talk yet bcs he have not retrieve back his voice organ, while in the old ver, he had already able to talk.

Yes, i like this series,I first learned of its existance from watching the live action movie from Japan, just found out there was actually an animated series on it and an early version of that series in 1969, as well that the live action movie i saw was based on the 1969 one!

Putting different versions sound on different audio channels is a nice touch.

I love how the screams of those men just mix so beautifully together. Not to mention the sounds of the fight and destruction of the bridge afterwords.

@XnetLINUX well, that just the typical voice of old anime try watching anything goes more than 90's and you'll find similar stuffs. Also, it works for other roles (yaks, parents, rulers, etc.). I guees it's just age things

The way they show the death in the 1969 one... yikes would've gave me nightmares lmao

i like both, of course the new one is better cause we have more animation techniques than back then,but as a classic it needs to be apreciated, without osamu, anime wouldn't be what is now, he made a big change and the fact that his series made their Tv debut so quickly, proves that point. The original was really good and i still think that about manga and anime, but of course since this is an old material it had some mistakes, Hyakkimaru could talk since the beggining even when he himself (at least in the manga) said that he couldn hear or see at all, which is something the new version did a good job with, the fact that he can't talk is a good choice, changing the number of demons was good too, and for now the series has a more darker tone, compared with the original who had some signs of comedy in it. i really appreciate both materials

​@@ClannadLastStory Yes i know that, but i think that was a narrative resource, is not too logic to him being able to talk even if he's doing it with his mind if he can't hear at all, yes i know he says something like ''i can feel the movement so i'm able to know what are you saying without hearing it'' but since he had this since birth, he wouldn't know how to talk, no one teach him and just a day after they found him, he spoke , why? I know it's because it wouldn't be as interesting in the manga and i'm not complaining just explaining my point (so don't get mad D:) , but i think in the new one it works better with him not talking, it mades sense and a character who can't talk, see or hear is really really interesting but is also really complicated to write( i think that was too a reason to why osamu make him talk). That's why i think both are great in their own aspects

2019 ver actually having a good theme, having a good animation, and the character design, i like it

I think the tone of the 2019 revival is perfectly suited for the modern audience. I watched back through both and can't deny my preference when comparing the two. I think the direction they took and changes that were made are clear signs of a great story to come from the reboot.

It's amazing, their physical features are still in tact.😍
