Thanks for advising all of us consumers about these scams.
Careful what you sign. Careful who you believe. The government won't protect you. This is an example of one big company causing a lot of problems in Ontario.
Simply green home services is one of the worst.
Yea I worked for two different people in Toronto and then both decided to not pay me thousands. When I went to the government I went through a bureaucracy nightmare that took months to no avail. The government doesn’t protect people from scum bags, unfortunately….
The scam is enough to make consumers angry, then you have that useless bureaucratic department which is incredibly frustrating. But that question-dodging, elected public servant is just infuriating! The nerve of these people! I really hope the victims receive some compensation. This is extremely unfair.

Why not go after Reliance Home Comfort as well?
@gilliandurkin3294
2 ай бұрын
They are not listed because no one has filed a complaint against them. What they do is job it out to some other company. Contract is signed with that company. Reliance gets a kick back they get away with it. The contract you signed with the new company close up shortly after. They sell the debt to finance company they now have bought the lien on your home. You are screwed. It all criminal and they consumer is not protected.

I used to work a call center that provided natural gas to properties in Ontario. I have heard hundreds and hundreds of stories where someone went to the customers home on behalf of the company i was working for. Customer would call in to find out if we sent people door to door. We did not. Door to door people will promise anything to get the sale. And some (if not all ) customers found out that a lien was attached to their property. My best advice was (and always will be): Don't let people in to look at your equipment unless you called the company yourself first.
I worked in the HVAC industry for 30 Years and since this Rental Scam came into the Industry, I disliked it and voiced out my displeasure with this business practice to the point that the company I worked for 13 years forced me to quit my job by making my life miserable. I contacted The Market Place about this issue but I guess at that point felt thru the cracks. I had audio recordings of our sales meetings where all sales team complained about the immorality of this practice to no avail, if you did not like it, here is the door . You are expected to close 70% in rentals and 30% in sale of equipment. Unfortunately since these companies get away with this and make absurd amounts of money with it, other smaller companies are adopting the same business plan. It is a disgrace that the government does not take more serious measures to protect consumers from these thieves. Sales people can make up to $1000 to $1500 in commission if they close a complete system rental (Furnace, AC, Humidifier, etc) . They only make half of that if they SELL the same equipment instead of RENTING IT. That is the salesman commission, the sales manager chunk is on top of that.
@GnarlsFarls
8 ай бұрын
that is crazy. do the customer's know the equipment is rented?
Don’t accept any door sales. No matter what. Don’t even open the door
I like how they don't dare to go after Reliance and Enercare who do the same thing. I worked for both and I can tell you, renting is a scam! You're better off getting a small line of credit from your bank and buy it outright. Reliance and Enercare charge over 20% interest on financing. Rental is even worse. I got so many horror stories to tell about them!!!
Reliance is one of the biggest offenders. Never let one one of their sales people in your home.

I had a similar experience with the Toronto based company Simply Green. Tried to sell me a new water heater, HVAC and some new hepa filtration system, on the premise that all my equipment was old and inefficient, my water heater was apparently leaching rust and other crap into my water. This whole sales pitch was done during a supposed mandatory "service call" for my water heater, which I was renting from Simply Green at the time. I initially signed on the dotted line for the new equipment, but something didn't feel right. The sales guy even took photos of my tax return, which had my SIN on it. (I was gullible, being a first time home owner.) I called a friend who was a realtor, and he said "Do NOT sign for anything". When we looked over the paper work, it would have cost me 40 grand over the ensuing decade, and there was actually nothing wrong with any of my equipment. I filed a complaint with the BBB, but no significant action was taken. Simply Green was very slow to reply, and no real apology, except to say they made sure my personal info was deleted from the phone of the sales rep. Truly appalling.
So who is investigating Consumer Protection Ontario and why they even exist ????
Terrible in the states as well no watchdogs scamming with impunity ita so sad

Pro tip! ☝🏻 Local small business owners want your return business when you’re not in an emergency. Go with a small local outfit if you’re in that situation. Big companies like Reliance Home Comfort are own majority by foreign investment firms. They don’t care at all about if you’re cold or hot. They see you as a cash cow. GOOOOOO LOCAL!
Why no class action
thank you for your hardwork , if it were not for hardworking journalists like you, the government would still be sleeping.

Good evening 🌆☀️🌆 everyone
It's not really hvac or water treatment services company, these model of business is a financing companies that they hide the financing interest behind the rental agreement. I believe "Ontario Consumers Protection" need to make it mandatory to show the hidden interest on the agreement.
I would just like to say that i found ur segment on HVAC Scam interesting Me and my wife were taken by Ontario Safety Standards and was told the exact same promises as these ladies were told and now have a paralegal on them there is 3 liens that we know of that were put on our house, and I find that the consumers antu Fraud had done nothing for me either

Every year, I got a lot of calls about the red tag, mostly, they are just fixable issues, and the company gives them the red tag just because they want to sell a new furnace which can make more money. so in my opinion, if your furnace does over 20 years do not trust anybody who tells you to replace it.

When I first got into the industry the guy I worked for would always carry a broken flame sensor in his pocket. He would show it to the customer and tell them he replaced it.
is there another video after this one?
"Consumer Protection Ontario, what would you say you do here?"
I have been in the Ontario HVAC industry for about 15 years and I have a very simple solution for how the Homeowner could be notified of the “security registration” or lien. Every potential victim of this garbage company MUST do what’s called a TPV or telephone verification call, if Consumer Protection forced the call to notify said homeowner of the amount and that the lien would be put on it would eliminate this trash company.

Sky high taxes to get a response telling you basically to suck it up and continue paying even more taxes.

Not acceptable especially if they are trying to lower carbon footprint at those hyperinflated prices. Sometimes it is better to keep the old system than to obtain a new one. No you must replace within # of days force sales on to people this is bad, does not matter if it breaks the next day. Manufacturing fossil fuels consumption need to be taken into account vs how much extra fuel the old system will use vs the new.
