Oscar's right. Plus, how do you test an evaporator in a vehicle? You can't put the tip right on the leak CUZ YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS! You have to shove the top up the heater box and see if you can detect AMBIENT gasses. Do a leak detection LIKE THAT and I'll be impressed. Your method is a FANTASY b/c it's not anything like how we do it in REALITY.

Even thought this is an older video, I'll comment. I have had the D-Tek Select for several years and am on my second one. I've noticed that it is fantastic on R-22 but not as good on R-410a. I'd like to know which detector is best for 410.

Good stuff Zack I quit relying on this technology. Doing isolation pressure testing exclusively. Your opinion?

" isolation pressure testing " How about a leak on the line set ??

I have many many hours of usage time with both and have found that they are fairly similar with 22 but the select would be way better with 410a

Throw these away and get the Accutrak Sonic detector. So amazing.

Inficon Tek Mate used Heated Diode Sensor. It's very unstable when you move the sniffer a little bit faster it will make noise beeping like crazy

Put a Halide Torch leak detector in the competition too. Lol

You were far away from the leak point With D-Tek Select @ 50 PSIG, compared with the other two tests!

They both have the same heated diode detector but they have different features but as for sensitivity they are about the same. I had a D-Tek back in 2004 and I have a Tek-mate now and it works good

@@HVACShopTalk although it was about 20 years ago when I was reading about the leak detector and then I had been only using a Halide torch leak detector for years because all the original Freon gas was CFC or HCFC with Chlorine gas in it I did not need a electric leak detector and I still have the Tiff brand leak detector I first had even though it is so old that it really does not work any more. It could of been that my first D-Tek was a heated diode type sensor? It was in 2004 that I bought my first Inficon D-Tek. I am a second generation mechanical contractor, my dad started his first HVAC company in the early 80's. I started in both the HVAC and Refrigeration industry and was a Parralel Rack Mechanic for most of my career until I got my Mechanical Contractors Licenses in 2013 and I now work on all of it. My very first job was a R-500 Chiller System providing Air conditioning to a large 200+ room motel and I did go by the place a few years ago and the cooling tower is no longer there but it was in the late 80's that I was working on it. Did Inficon use heated diode type sensor originally?

@@ryanclay959 D-TEK had a heated diode sensor from 1993 to 2004 like the TEK Mate today D-TEK Select and the new D-TEK Stratus have an Infrared sensor which is more sensitiv and has longer life time than heated diode
