A thermostat is a regulating device component which senses the temperature of a physical system and performs actions so that the system's temperature is maintained near a desired setpoint.
Thermostats are used in any device or system that heats or cools to a setpoint temperature, examples include building heating, central heating, air conditioners, HVAC systems, water heaters, as well as kitchen equipment including ovens and refrigerators and medical and scientific incubators. In scientific literature, these devices are often broadly classified as thermostatically controlled loads (TCLs). Thermostatically controlled loads comprise roughly 50% of the overall electricity demand in the United States.
Digital thermostats use a simple device called a thermistor to measure temperature. This is a resistor which allows electrical resistance changes with temperature. The microcontroller in a digital thermostat can measure the resistance and convert that number to an actual temperature reading.
A digital thermostat can do a few things that a regular mechanical thermostat cannot. One of the most useful features of a digital thermostat is programmable settings. In the winter, you can program it to automatically turn up the heat for an hour or two in the morning while you get ready for work, turn down the heat until you get home, turn up the heat in the evening and then turn down the heat while you sleep. This is a great money-saving feature because you can simply turn down the heat when it isn't needed.

Man I can't thank you enough ! I have worked in the field and this is the absolute best knowledge on an explanation on how to make you finally understand the low voltage circuit and how common actually comes into to the checking vs red constant .thank you extremely well done 👏

Got a question for you I got the smart thermostat and I don't have a clue how to wire it up I have a red blue white and green wire but it doesn't say anything on the back of it where it should go I think I might be able to send a picture I'm not sure

Why when the switch is open is all the voltage on the switch, but when circuit is closed why does it drop to 0. Thanks for your videos.

What if I have 9v between Y AND C? Thermostat working on Cooling. Outdoor unit not turning on. Same thermostat working properly with another Air conditioner. Btw problem was with transformer. We replaced transformer, but he just died again in 30min. But during this 30mins outdoor unit didn't turned on

I have done so much research on my stinking furnace I really am losing the energy to look up the fluke besides I don't have one and am try to save money fixing this thing myself I can't go out and buy one. I do love your mock control board. It's a great vid. I'm just so incredibly frustrated because I cannot find the problem with my furnace. So far everything has checked out. It simply seems likefd gas is turned off the unit. But it can't be. I hear, and even feel, the click in the gas control valve. Bit there is no gas. I'm about to remove the gas line to be 100% certain about the gas line to the furnace is really live. If it is I guess I will start over with testing the control board with a multimeter. But I hear the click in the gas control valve. Can it click and still be stuck. And then click again when it should turn off and still be stuck? Can anyone give me some ideas on this? Thanks if you can. And thank you for you vids.

Open circuit reads 0.0 closed gives your your voltage you saying it backwards

No, he is measuring in reference to the 24V in line, not ground. Closed gives you your power, not voltage. Then the relay closes there is now power in that line, but it is the same 24V. So 24V - 24V = 0V. Voltage is the difference in potential. The 24V measured when the relay is open is the potential for power to flow if the two lines were connected.
