The drawings and instructions in the manual are not adequate. Your hints on how to use the Jade 20 will really help me.

    I got this machine the last year and I absolutely love it. It's the best purchase of my life. Perhaps the only tning that I don't like it about it it's that there isn't a button for moving the needle to the right or to the left where you want. And that I'd rather the screen information at white color. Anyway It's an amazing machine. P.S.: Sorry if my english it's not good.

    You CAN move the needle position. When you are using a straight stitch, you can use the buttons that are usually for stitch width to move the needle to the right or left.

    Hi, I'm glad I could share something useful with you. Technically, when winding the bobbin, the motor runs until you stop, or until the bobbin is pushed far enough out to disengage the switch. Many times this doesn't happen, in which case it runs until the bobbin is manually moved over. It is possible to adjust the stopper, so yours must be set so that it will disengage the switch.

    I have had my machine for over two years. I learned to sew to make masks and upgraded machines in Dec 2020. I did NOT know I could wind the bobbin without unthreading the machine nor did I know about the presser foot pressure amount. I can't wait to finish watching this then look for more tutorials. I hope you go over how to actually do a zigzag and how to place the fabric. I am trying to find how to use it on the edges while I am bag making to help compress the edges. I so appreciate this video. I’m considering a Viking jade 20 as an upgrade for my 10 year old Janome new home, which I have had many minor issues with. One of which is that I can’t sew denim without skipping stitches or completely jamming (even with a denim needle). When I try to find a machine that will work for denim, all the suggestions are for mechanical heavy duty machines... no fun! Would I get by sewing denim with a Viking jade 20? It’s not something I do daily, but I’d like to be able to.

    This is a great video! Question: do you believe the fix stitch is strong enough to act as a back stitch? I love how it has reverse, but absolutely despise how it has to do 2 stitches and then goes into reverse and 2 stitches again to reverse the direction. I have gotten in the habit of just doing a few stitches, and then rotating my fabric around to continue sewing for my back stitches. My brother you would just hit the reverse and it would go automatically not the +2,-2 stitches before and after. Overall it’s a great machine though!!

    @dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689

    I do rely on the fix stitch. I asked about whether the 2 stitches it takes forward after you press reverse could be changed, but I guess that was hard programmed in. I've learned to adjust to it too. None of the other Vikings do this.

    Amazingly informative videos!! I’m definitely going to buy my next machine from y’all. It will be either the jade or the emerald (while they’re on sale!) I’m leaning toward the jade after watching both videos but curious as to what you think the main differences/pros-cons are.

  • @dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689

    @dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689

    2 жыл бұрын

    Well, there are quite a few differences. First, the Emerald is a mechanical machine, and the Jade 20 is electronic. A mechanical machine is likely to last longer simply because there aren't any chips or boards that may need to be replaced. Think about a typewriter versus a computer. The Jade 20 has some features I wouldn't want to be without now that I've used them. It has a setting for the machine to stop with the needle down. I love that feature because my project won't shift on me if I need to stop and adjust something. It also has a start-stop button, which I use a lot. I use it for buttonholes and special stitches, and I use it when I'm free-motion quilting. Another thing I love about the Jade 20 is that all of its parts and pieces, including the power cord and foot control, fit in its case and it becomes its own hard case. If you need to take it to class or put your sewing away, it is self contained and makes it easy to travel or stow in a closet. There are more differences, like lots more stitches on the Jade, but those are the main ones I can think of without having the machine in front of me.

    The machine is set with a "Fix" default at the beginning. It makes a few small stitches back and forth, so you don't need to back stitch at the start. You can press the "Fix" when you are finished instead of using a backstitch if you wish. The default at the beginning can be turned off in the settings. I believe that lasts until you turn off the machine.

    I didn't change my needle in the video for each technique because time. However, for best results, you should change your needle for the type of fabric and/or technique. For a very lightweight knit, I recommend a 75 stretch needle. For heavier weight stretch fabrics, a higher number like 80 or 90. For denim, at least a size 90 denim needle. Hope that helps. Your machine give you tips on what needle to use. Check the screen.

    Are you talking about after winding the bobbin? If so, you've wound it too tight, and you'll need to strip all of the thread off of the bobbin, and that bobbin is probably broken. The machine doesn't always stop winding the bobbin automatically - the motor keeps running. You can adjust the stopper so that it stops winding, but the motor will keep running. I just watch it and stop the bobbin before it gets too full. If it's something else, let me know and I'll try to help.

    Thanks for your video. I am new to sewing and have had this machine since last May. I cannot seem to sew over 2 layers of cotton (especially near an edge) or the fabric jams up. It helps if I use the walking foot. I've watched others sewing simple cotton projects (2 layers) on KZread without having to use a walking foot. I cannot use the regular feet if sewing a simple cotton coaster with thin ironed-on fusible fabric.... In addition, it seems like the feed dogs pull to the left significantly when I'm sewing. Wondering if anyone else has these issues? Maybe I have a lemon ;(

  • @dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689

    @dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689

    The fabric jams, or is it the thread? Are you sure you are threading the machine correctly? The foot must be UP when you are threading the top of the machine. Make sure you pull the top thread through the foot and to the back before you start. This will help keep the thread from knotting up. The fix function will stitch 4-5 stitches in place at the beginning and then will start moving forward, so let it do it's thing. Also, don't push the fabric under the foot. The machine should pull the fabric through for you. If all of those things are working correctly, I suggest you take it back in to your dealer and have them take a look at it.

    Do you have the bobbin pushed all the way down onto the pin? There should be some metal showing at the top of the bobbin. You need to hold onto the thread until enough thread winds onto the bobbin so that it doesn't come out. If that doesn't help, please try to describe the problem in a little more detail, or maybe try calling one of the stores. I just HATE this sewing machine!!!! The design of the accessory drawers is sticky and extremely annoying. They are very hard to open. Threading is a nightmare because there's not enough room to get your hands in there to thread that needle. Winding the bobbin us another nightmare. There is no automatic stop, it ALWAYS winds the thread in s tangled mess. Changing the needle is again difficult due to that small opening. Aghhhh!
