Can confirm that any license owner SHOULD love that 390 engine. I have a Z1000 and sometimes rue the fact I can't use that engine anywhere on the roads (legally and/ or safely). I love it, I do. But my friend has a 390 Duke and it is so much fun to ride. You can literally kick its head in everywhere and it will not care, and just comply. Such an easy going bike

Agreed. Its obviously because he's been riding for years but his anticipation of the movement of traffic and his decision making and smoothness is unreal. If anyone else tried to drive like him i think they'd crash. RJ knows when to go and when to wait. I dont have that kind of skill so i honestly dont know how he does it. More practice i suppose!

Well said RJ! You’re the first motorcycle reviewer i’ve heard stress the importance of dealer support. It has been such an important factor for me in deciding what bike to get. I initially really wanted a Yamaha and i have no doubt they make amazing motorcycles but was left far from impressed with how their dealership was run in my country. Whereas i had not even initially considered KTM here but instantly fell in love with them, their service and their motorcycles after a visit. It is such an overlooked factor!

  • @mikeball5883

It does look good. And a little more practical than the Svitpilen. Can't wait for the 701 Vartpilen - that's likely to be pick of the bunch vs vart 701 and duke 690 and a little more useful vs these 401s/390s. Pricey? Does that matter if you're happier with any of these rather than an even more expensive but much bigger value-for-money bike?

I am glad you read my comment on the Duke 390 video RJ and that you agree with my thought process as well. I would love a KTM 390 or Husqvarna vitepilen / svartpilen but the nearest KTM dealer is 2 hours away, and there are two Yamaha dealers within 20 minutes of me. Would I want the Duke 390 or Husqvarna over a Yamaha mt 03 or the new XSR300 coming this year, damn right I would.. but I can't ride 2 hours every time I need a service or something breaks. Great video as always RJ:)

@@IssaG0ld Exactly my thoughts. I got one 3 months ago, did 5000km on it and had a blast. But I found out that it isn´t really suitable for my kind of riding. I like to do longer distance trips and it really isn´t comfortable after an hour or two so I sold it for something for comfortable. Whenever I´m in the position to afford two bikes, the Svart will be my first choice every time!
