The LGT2654 that I own is about to hit 400 hours has been finally relinquished of mowing duties. Replaced with a commercial zero turn as of today even though I just got it back running. I did a lot of fwd/rev turns and the bolts on the crossmember that holds the K46 sheared. If you notice the drive belt falling off all of a sudden, check the transmission mounts. After dropping the the tranmission, removed the broken studs, put new 5/16 grade 5 bolts in, & changed the fluid, it is back to running like new. They do cut decent with the side deflector trimmed down/back. Also, had trouble with the rack/pinion gear wearing out twice on the steering column. This is simple a mowing machine. Do not try ground engaging equipment on this, it will break. Oh, check the front wheel bearings often, you do not want to be digging into the rim or it will never be right. I wouldn't recommend paying the $2,500+ for it. Catch a sale to get it closer to $1,500 out the door. It is a little better & rides smoother than the smaller models.

LGT is Lawn and Garden Tractor not Large Garden Tractor. This tractor has been rode hard and put up wet. Who ever had it didn't have it set up properly. I have a 2654 that is 8 years old and I mow 6 acres of some flat, some hillside. I put a set of chains on mine the day I bought it and they have never been taken off. It will go places that a John Deere would never go. I take care of it and it takes care of my needs. As a matter of fact I just got off of it to come in for supper. I had a Simplicity and this husky will mow rings around that tractor. As far as a John Deere is concerned, they are junk.

All others are gt for garden tractor.. Please google broken husqvarna frame.. Husqvarna even has frame repair kits..

Ive had four with the same frame all four cracked in the same spot. Its not a bad set up it is a poorly constructed design flaw. Notice all the holes near the breake in the frame. The engine puts out too much torke for that frame due to the enlarged tires and weakly constructed frame. Husquavarna should have put a recall on all tractors with that frame. And yes i do know what i am talking about

Very helpful video. Thanks for getting the truth out on the Husqvarna riders. I noticed that my older model 54 inch cut HQ rider also has a bad habit of throwing the deck belt while mowing grass. Flat and level lawn cutting, hit a slight bump, the deck belt drops off front motor pulley, gets sucked under the mower deck, cuts belt, boom, you get to spend $ Fifty $ more dollars for a new deck belt at the HQ dealer! buyer beware, to your homework.

This model has a K46 transmission and 22 inch tires you would be crazy to treat this as a GT tractor. All manufacturers do this too, not just Husqvarna. The next model up (TS line) has a K66 with electronic locking differential, and that is a true 'light' duty garden tractor, but again the frame is the weakness, hence the 'light' designation. Agreed that if you are doing farming or anything other than occasional light ground engaging work, get a subcompact or real GT tractor, but the Husqvarna TS line are built at a price point and will work for snow removal/hauling, light dozing, etc. much better than a lawn tractor. As always, you get what you pay for.

Yes, what is the point of buying a garden tractor with a heavy duty transmission like the Tuff Torq K66 or Hydro Gear G730 and a big engine if the frame is made out of thin stamped sheet metal. A person might as well spend the extra money and get a heavy duty ( i.e. real ) garden tractor that hopefully has a proper frame.

@@BobSmith-iu3hx The Husqvarna is $3500. Most subcompact or heavy duty garden tractors start around $8000, not counting attachments, and go up fast. That's a lot of extra money for capacity some people, like me, do not need. The point for me was to get the cheapest tractor with a locking differential and I did.

I purchased front wheel bushings to bearings conversion kit off eBay. They work great! My father’s broke at the flanges where the transaxle bolts on. I’m almost certain it’s due to just using the speed control lever alone. It undoubtedly would have lasted longer by using the brake pedal also before shifting from forward to reverse and vise versa. I repaired those but now it will barely move forward. I can walk faster!

I’m looking at one with 120 hours on it. Seems well kept and clean. If I decide to buy it I will weld some stiffening braces on the weak spot on the frame and probably weld a gusset on the rear axle mount perpendicular to the ear. If there is a bushing to bearing conversion kit I will definitely get one. Any other mods recommended?

Do some of the other models have a heavier frame? Its kind of shocking that so many are breaking frames. I have hills in my back yard and I don't think the K46 transaxle would hold up to my back yard, so I'm looking for something with a K58 (1" axle) transaxle. I love John Deere, but to get a K58 you have to go to the X380 which sells for $4699 OUCH!

I had to replace them. Other issues have plagued me and now I have to take the engine apart to replace the PLASTIC governor guide. Kawasaki twin. Not impressed. I should have stayed with John Deere, but I think they also offer the same engine. Also this 3-blade 42" machine is terrible at cutting grass, but I do like the limited slip differential.

yep, it's a low torque residential lawn tractor transmission, NOT garden tractor grade. it's a sealed, unserviceable throwaway transmission. it's designed for 18 to 20 inch wheels, NOT 22 inch wheels. that lawn tractor is a trojan horse, CLEARLY designed to fail immediately after the warranty. You're lucky to get 380 hours. I've seen them fail in less than 200 hours.

Just look at the steering gears. Sheet metal? Walk away. Another sign is does it have an hour meter? If not walk away. I have found these 2 observations save a great deal of time especially when looking at used machines. I was so appalled by what I found out there I rebuilt our Husqvarna which has heavy steering gears and an hour meter after 2 days of looking at crap. I have now replaced it with the Cub ZT1 54" zero turn and wow what a difference. From 4+ hours to under 2 hrs for our 4+ acres and so much more fun to use. Lawn tractors make lousy mowers is my take away.

I purchased mine new at a dealer. He tried to talk me out of it if I planned on doing anything other than mowing on a level yard. He said no constant steep hills or pulling heavy loads in a trailer because the rear axle was not a full 1" diameter as found on other tractors this size, and prone to break. I get it, and I'm not saying he was wrong, but that was 5 years ago. My 7000 series Kohler runs great. This tractor has a tight turning circle for it's size. I love the 54" cutting deck. The only thing I did was add the tractor lug type tires to the rear for extra traction on wet slopes. I have lots of those on our farm in upstate NY. I mow about 4 acres of lawn and several hundred feet of pasture fence line, inside and out. I even go up into our woods to mow around our log cabin. If it broke tomorrow, I'd still be pretty happy with what I've accomplished with it in these past years. I don't know about fixing a broken axle, but I can weld cracks like the one in this video.

I welded all, reinforced wings with heavier angle plates and lower frame rails with sections of garage door opener center T bar. The frame doesn't twist like a rubber band anymore! However, I forgot where all of the chassis linkages and springs are located. I have yet to find a practical assembly diagram or images with more than 3 location leader lines. None of which show the exact point of connection!! $#@!...Engineers. How are repair specialists even supposed to look up assemblies. Of course, the logical answer is the new age Corporate Capitalist fundamental... "build cheap/sell high/ scrap it and buy new when it breaks". WTH happened to pride in a quality product..,? The L is for light not large. It's an LGT or light garden tractor. This model was never meant to be used as a heavy duty garden tractor hence the "light" part in the name. The actual Husqvarna garden tractors, the 300 series, are much better than this one. They also cost over twice as much, but for the price you will not find a better garden tractor. Just stay away from the LGT models. They are a modern scam. They are just lawn and yard tractors dressed up to look like a GT. John Deere has a few of these dressed up mowers that even still use a key way on the rear axle instead of actual 5 point hubs like a real GT. All the big brands make these LGTs, just do your research and make sure you are getting a real GT. The Husqvarna 300 series, the John Deere 500 and 700 series, simplicity, and Cub Cadet XT3 series are all good real garden tractors.

The one thing I did read about was the deck welding breaking loose and my dumbass didn’t look and behold it’s going on it’s way. I’ll either buy a new deck and rebuild it myself or see if it can be welded. Other than that I am completely happy with it. But it still can’t beat the shit out of a 20 something year old Murray my grandpa bought from Sears and gave to me to mow my parents yard. I couldn’t take it away from my dad. It’s a shame because although it’s getting ugly it mows damn well.

They are not MTD's. I'm not a Deere groupie but the JD at the box store is the same economy version that you buy at your local dealer. In fact, your local JD dealer actually goes to the local box stores and sets up these units per JD's agreement with the chains. While they are not the X-series that are dealer exclusive they are indeed John Deere machines. I'm an an ex JD service manager, we had a guy that would go out in the spring to all of the local box stores and set these up.

@@davidvines6498 Compare the controls and decks with the Craftsman (now MTD) at Lowes. Then look at the Deeres at the dealer and you will see what I mean. Note that some dealers carry the cheaper ones as well. These are not "bad" units, they are just not the same quality as the Deere.

Purchased mine 3 years ago and I've replaced the frame, transaxle, drive belt which when it shredded up, it tore up the wire that engages the clutch to the mower deck. Biggest POS out there. Also I cut approximately 2 Acres of clear yard nothing to drastic.

You shouldn't be cutting grass in a land mine with this machine. Buy an actual garden tractor instead. I have to fix a broken axle after 10 years of abuse on mine.
