I’ve had my 701 two years now and still love the bike. I’m at about 9500 miles on the clock and if anything it sounds better now than it did when it was new. It’s booked in for its 13k mile service at the back end of May but I’m not anticipating anything major will need doing with it. 👍

That's really good to hear. How often are you doing oil changes and how we're the valves when you had them checked?

Great update. I have a 2023 701 like yours and also a 2019 690 in the US. MY Husky is bog stock getting around mid 60s MPG but on a ride I’m doing now with a 50:50 on/off road in the US I’m averaging 80 MPG. That’s with a Rade Garage filter, Aroow can and fuel dongle. No mapping changes. Stunning bike with 10,000 miles on it. We’re half way on a 4,000 mile trip on TAT and BDR in the north east. I’m your height so lowered exactly as you have with no issues. The traction especially is excellent with. good control and perfect for a ride of this length where I can’t afford heroics. A lot to do to the Husky when I get home. Cheers, Ian

Sounds like an amazing trip. I'd love to come ride in the US. I toured Arizona, utah, Nevada, colorado and california for 4 weeks last summer in a camper and absolutely loved it. You have some amazing places to ride bikes compared to the UK!

@@jimvarna It’s fabulous. I’m actually British so only here for a short time. I got the KTM here and rode it last year as a shake down for this trip of 23 days. The riding is great on or off road. We’re mainly on back roads and off-road and loving every minute. My only issue is the Anakee Wild rear is well down at 2,300 miles and 2,000 to go! Hoping to find a replacement as we head towards Canada. The mods I’d do for another time are bar dampers and a bit more seat padding. The Seat Concepts seat is good but the gel too soft for me. I have 503 (I think) Fatbars with more pullback. 1” risers but would do more if I could. Mode 2 is better on the loose stuff for me. Softer delivery and better on the very loose trails and probably easier on the rear tyre. I loved the 690 last year and got a 2023 701 when I got home. My 890 will go. It’s too heavy and honestly more than I need or will use. Cheers, Ian

What size is your D606 in the rear? I just put the Anakeei Wild on but was looking at the D606 but could not find the stock size. I also added the Rottweiler O2 delete, and it has fixed the low-end throttle

For the front, I'm running a Pirelli Scorpion Rally Race with a D606 rear. Great combo and very stable up front even on the road. ECU wise, there is a company in QLD, Australia called Yuri Mechanical who reflashes the stock ECU. Have just got mine back coupled with a Wings Exhaust and Twin Air foam filter. So far, I'm blown away.

Nice review ! I couldn’t disagree more with your “steering damper” This is the most relaxed geometry of any dirt bike ! It’s f’ing stable !! It doesn’t need a steering damper!! Save your money 😂

Thanks! I had some huge scary moments, lock to lock which now I'm not getting. Maybe it's my set up for riding style.. compared to the 901 this thing feels so twitchy 😂

changing the rear pipe ditches the cat and that makes it run way better and cooler too, maybe worth you looking at the G2 throttle tamer, it is a cam that fits under the throttle grip instead of the standard cam and gives you about 25% of gentle and linear wind on if i remember right, so basically its a lot less aggro - loads of people use it on the 500, i ride a 500 and thought i would need one but i got used to it - ktm/husky/gasgas are strong, my 500 is 8k miles now trouble free and that is way more maintenance than yours, fwiw i have not even had to change piston or valves yet - ride in peace of mind knowing it is a good bike under you

Hi, great video! i’ve been binge watching your vids since i’m considering getting the sm version, and i’m also a shorter rider so I appreciate your videos. One thing that’s holding me back from purchasing one is the servicing every 6k miles. Do you know around how much the valve service would cost?

I've not had a quote done for the valve service as I plan on doing it myself. I'd expect it to cost maybe £3-400. I'd also reccomend oil changes every 2k. Doing an oil and filter change with genuine parts yourself is quick and easy and costs around £60

How the hell is that so clean? I enduro mine and it’s filthy! Withe the Rade storage box and air filter it’s turned my bag of spanner’s engine into a bag of spanner’s on spin cycle. I can hear the engine ingestion louder than the exhaust. It either sounds amazing or terrible depending on my mood. Keep up the good 701 content. 👍

Just got to keep on top of it, I clean it every ride without fail and it gets a tear down every 4 rides or so to clean the engine and frame properly.

The rear rack is made by perun moto. And the mirrors are made by doubletake.

interesting how many different perceptions of a bike there can be. I never find the tc intrusive, and find the green map milder. You must ride really fast and aggressive! Good point about the shark fin, you got some serious hit on the rim too! I’d love to do a proper remap, but I don’t really want any add-on dongles, fear they end up ding more harm than good…

Interesting to hear. I was a little sceptical about the rapid bike module but my local tuner only deals with quality add on parts, such as woolich, dynojet etc and says they're as good as any. The remap itself was done on a rolling road, so custom to the bike and modifications I've made, not just plug and play (I wouldn't reccomend them type). Always good to see how the fueling is before and after the changes.

@@jimvarna who did the remap? I’m no doubting the quality of the parts, just unsure about the principle. My understanding is that this kind of devices rather than producing a proper map (per rpm, gear, throttle, etc) just trick the ecu about what the riding conditions are (by misreporting). Now although this may get the desired effect in terms of fuelling at low speed, it may have unexpected/unforeseen effects elsewhere in one of the thousand things the ecu monitors. But my understanding is only rudimentary…

@@miro_s trackelectronics in Norfolk. The rapid bike module is not one of those that fools the ecu. It's a full remap system allowing adjustment of the fueling through throttle positions and rpm.

Hello Jimvarna , great kitted out 701 . I am in the same boat as you were . Doing a lot more off road work on the Ktm 890r adv that I want to change to the husky 701 . Only issue I am having is with some dealers reluctantly wanting to take a 1 year old bike in for good money against a new 701 & the new 24reg coming out so have new stock to get ride of . Did you PX your Nordon ? Hopefully it will work out in the end for me and I can enjoy what the husky will bring to the table . 👌

I did trade my 901, I put it online for about a month prior and had no interest at all. Ended up trading in for quite a big loss. My mate has been trying to sell his 890r for about 6 or 8 months now with no interest. My norden took almost a year to shift from the dealer I traded in with. The 701 is a very different bike to ride compared to the 890/901 but suits what I'm doing a lot better.

@glenlodge6779 unfortunately they're difficult bikes to shift, especially if it's been used for what it's been designed for. The vast majority of them aren't, therefore are in the condition of a road bike, and the vast majority who buy them will see and use it as a road/touring bike so want it to be spotless.. its quite a niche market. But hey what else would you be spending your money on?! 😂
