Husqvarna 372xp X-Torq Mods, Dead Saw Salvage with some tweaks..:)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

WORKING On A better "Edit" of this. left out some KEY points....:)
NOW The saw has lived its life, and stopped. A dead saw salvage. But while replacing the rings and honing the cylinder, might as well give it a chance to live a bit longer by solving one of the X-Torq's systemic issues. Lubrication. There are going to be all those who argue, but with all that air on the intake side, they tend to wear out a little faster than their predecessor's so here is a way to have those worn out saws live a little longer on borrowed time!
It's going to get:
Fresh Rings
Carb Kit ( Minimum ) , New Carb a better option
New Ignition. Old one has the plug wire ruined from vibrating on the fins,
ALSO the new ones create spark at a lower RPM and have a different timing curve
Both make starting these beasts much easier
Intake and exhaust mods...makes it run and idle a bit smoother....:)
NOT My best video! But realized as I started this might both answer some questions AND clarify what I do to the X-torq's. When built like this they DO use more fuel. BUT much easier to tune and get running well. Less sensitive to temperature changes, simply an easier saw to work with. Also starts and idles easy. Restarts easy as well. Makes a little more power, not earth shattering, but enough to notice. My bet is when this saw goes back they will be rather amazed at the difference...there was something else going on with this saw as it was given to me..:) Set that right too. I did some case / bearing rebuild work where folks would just give me the cases and I would split them and replace bearings and seals. This was one of those cases I had done I do believe.
The Gutted Intake boot and filter holder mod on a saw that would not idle well and was virtually impossible to tune. A 2010 model 372 X-Torq version. I put the "new" updated ignition that has a much lower RPM where it will create spark and a different advance curve than the original 2010 version had. ALSO a newer Carburetor as they changed that as well....didn't change the piston to the newer version that is heavier.
Had to heli coil a bunch of screw holes so this is that saws' LAST chance at life. If it comes back dead...its scrap. Has cut a lot of wood, hope it lasts another 2 or 3 seasons for the guy and that will be a saw that has done its time.

    Bingo, I cranked my clone 660, today. Tomorrow may be a different story but I cranked it, today, without it beating me to death. I ran it for 20 minutes and fine tuned the carb a bit - idle, 2570; WFO 12,900, where I set them two months ago. All with good acceleration. Thanks for your assistance and guidance.

    What size ID pipe do you use or recommend for the muffler mod? I have a 365 xtorq I would like to take the baffles out of the transfers and do a muffler mod to. Great video and Happy New Year

    Hey Walt, do you know which one of your videos covers the oil pump on a 372? I've looked through your vids and cant find one. Specifically which way that sleeve and thin shim go and what seals the pump to the pickup hose. If you remember, I asked you a few things a few days ago about a nonoiling 372. My problem was someone turned the adjuster all the way out beyond the wire clip and then turned it back on on the end of the shaft which stripped the plastic threads right off of the worm gear.

    I'm doing some tree clearing work on my land in the Hudson Valley with my Husky 365 X-TORQ. I'm going to do a muffler mod, remove the transfer port cover restrictors and possibly base gasket delete depending on the squish from the factory. What size tube do you recommend using for the muffler mod? Thanks!

    I have a 372 that is bogging severely at full throttle then dies when you let off the gas. Not fuel line or filter is not carberator or muffler issues what else would cause that ? Air leak ? What are symptoms of a air leak ?

    Hi Walt, I have a older 350 is it possible to be an air leak if it goes full throttle as soon as it starts? Great compression, piston is in excellent shape, I put new base gasket and metal clamp no change. Any advice would help. Thanks

    Hey Walt... Do you need a special compression tester or can i use my snap on tester for cars? What is a good Compression reading for a saw? I have an Echo CS 3000 with 125 is that too low?

  • @afleetcommand

    @afleetcommand

    5 жыл бұрын

    Compression is compression. My "tester" s for Automotive applications. The only thing is it will read a few lbs low because of the "volume" in the hose that goes from the plug hole to the gauge...air IS a compressible fluid! So it's good for a "ball park". A Saw will run in that 125 range. Rather see in the 140 range. But remember with such a small cylinder if you have a set up like mine, that might be a low readings and the actual compression might be closer to 130..:) Still lower than you want, but should run.

    Would you go ahead and gut the boot and filter housing on a brand new 372?

  • @afleetcommand

    @afleetcommand

    4 жыл бұрын

    I would, but it really depends on your skill set and focus. So that isn't a recommendation for everyone else. The later than 2017 versions ran pretty well right out of the box. The gains by modifying would feel "incremental" and might disappoint if you are looking for a transformation level change. So you would ask why would I do that change? Because it's easy for me to accomplish, just an hour or two, and along with a muffler mod and a few other things the saw runs incrementally better....in my way of judging that. And while that difference may not be worth the effort to some it is to me on my saws.
