Worked in the industry for almost 27 years. Never used a small one like this one. We had to use the 288XP Husky. Now those are heavy. But by the size of the trees nothing smaller would do. Now I bought a small one like this to haul firewood. It got me thinking that I should have had a smaller saw to do the limbing. Too late, the lower discs on my spine took a beating. But these are good little saws.

288XP Husky is 7.5kg 135 Mark II is 4.7kg Damn nearly TWICE as light. Almost feels like a toy in the hands. But the cheap plastics used are absolutely disgusting. I am curious about the longevity of the newer 120 Mark II and 135 Mark II - are they reliable?

Stopping to check the chain without putting the brake on, not the brightest thing to do. Only takes a second to flip the break on. Had a 135 for several years after having a 257 / 254 for years. Great saw and ideal for my needs these days.

Safety comments aside, it's interesting to see some responses of Stihl versus Husqvarna. I have a dilemma with my Stihl MS391 bought in December 2016 and used maybe 6 weekends a yearin my large garden, so small usage compared to forestry/tree surgeons. Last month it had problems starting so I took it to a Stihl dealer/service agent and they reported that the thread on the cylinder head is damaged so the spark plug won’t tighten enough for the machine to start the engine. I was quoted £275 for labour and parts on a chainsaw that cost me £475 four years ago, now retailing at £650. It's crazy. What would you do? (BTW - Stihl refused to compensate me or find a mutual resolution as they insist it's a wear & tear issue, whilst I am insisting it is a product defect )

  • @Wmbhill

Get a new plug and JB Weld it in, when that plug dies, you’ll need a new top end anyway. I had an MS311 but my MS 362 CM is by far the best saw I’ve ever used (in that size range) if you decide to upgrade.

Use a helicoil on the plug hole, it will require taking the jug off to make sure no metal gets in the engine but its a lot cheaper than a new cylinder.

I have a stihl ms261c-m. i never had starting problems but from one day to the next, the idle went apeshit. The saw is running like 75% throttle when it should idle. It wont let me turn it off from the lever. I have to push the decompression valve on the cylinder. Also it wont let me calibrate it. I took it to two different stihl dealers. The hook it up to a computer and they dont know what is wrong with it. and claim that it must be user error, even thoug i have never taken it apart other then for cleaning and general maintain... So they rudely offer me to buy a brand new one (greedy cocksuckers).. The saw is only 4 years old and only used to cut firewood for my little fireplace in the livingroom and some minor gardenwork now and then... In my posession it will never ever run the amount of hours that it would in hands of a pro lumberjack... I now own a good old Jonsered 2152 with a 15" bar, and it runs better the the M-Tronic shit ever did.... I will never buy another Stihl product again

Thats fantastic ! Trouble is here in the US that saw in its first configuration got a bad reputation....and I mean REALLY BAD ! Definitely not up to Husqvarna reputation for Quality. I was looking for a smaller professional quality limbing saw ( I carry 2 or 3 saws to work every day any how might as well make one smaller and a lot lighter for limbing and save fatigue and wear and tear on my body over a 8-10 hour shift....you would be surprised how much it helps to have a saw that you use at least as much or more than your bigger saw depending on what type trees your felling) Anyway I really looked hard at this little saw since NO BODY makes a real professional duty smaller saw before I settled on the new Jonsereds ( Husquvarna bought them out and builds them now ) that is the exact duplicate of the MK 2 it has some of the professional features for a little less $$$$$.... And aside from having to re tune it for our Altitude and swapping out Bars for a 16" So far the little saw has worked its guts out and keeps right on going....I could not be happier. Somebody should tell the people in charge that there is a huge market for a small light weight PROFESSIONAL DUTY saw for limbing and so forth.

@@GardenandForest Very VERY TRUE....The Balance of the saw is fantastic and I know mine so far anyway is really holding up (much to my amazement) way better than I could have hoped for. Look the price is so good even if I have to buy 2 of them a year the way they handle and the lack of fatigue they give me everyday is MORE THAN WORTH IT.....I really wish someone would tell Husqvarna that there is a real need for a Professional Duty Saw the size and power of this great little saw and design it in a 16" Bar Configuration......there are more and more loggers at least here anyhow that see the value of carrying a smaller lighter weight saw for limbing especially. The Anti Vibration these offer the user is really well designed.

I switched to Husqvarna because all the fallers I knew and worked with had switched and I have NEVER had a single problem even with the countless hours of hard everyday use I put on a saw in a year. The trend seems to be leaning to your average boots on the ground Faller carrying 2 saws to the timber daily, I know it seems like a lot but if done right it's not a problem, (most of us back pack the smaller saw) but the ideal thing still and always will be carry one saw that is big enough to tackle any size tree you face up with but still lightweight and easy handling enough to limb and buck with, it is in these areas that Husqvarna has left any competition behind. Depending on the average diameter on the stump of the wood you find yourself in daily dictates what saw you need to carry to the timber....I mainly carry 2 saws in my Truck everyday....the newer versions of the 550XP and the 572XP but here where we earn our living we rarely see a old Growth Ponderosa that will go bigger than 40" across the stump with the majority of trees Fir, Spruce and Ponderosa Pine being in the 24"- 32" across the stump size so while I do have a couple of bigger CC Husqvarna powerheads with a big assortment of Bar n Chain lengths to go with them my 572 and 550 XP saws in 32" and 24" bar and chains respectively handle 90% of everything I fall 24/7

I have to be pricise and fast, nothing from saw more than 1/4 inch deep or it gets sent back

He looked professional until 0:29. That is completely wrong. He should have the cut with the upper and innermost part of the blade and kept it parallel to the triangle cut and placed his feet so the torso would be on the side of the tree. Some trees can have a lot of tension built up in them and can spring back when the final cut is being made. It is flat here, I give him that, so it is not likely, but better stay safe with good habits. Beside safety it is the leverage he is not getting holding the saw like a stick. If doing something like 8-10 hours of intensive chainsaw work every day is what he is about that is not a way to do that cut neither. His arms risk get unnecessary inflammation or get exhausted way premature.

  • @GreenIllness

0:48 Oh my fucking god! That is a red flag! Never stand right behind the stem in the opposite direction of a falling tree. If the trunk hits some unexpected bumps or rocks in the terrain it can come flying up in his chin and kill him. This guy may have this as a profession, but he is definitely not doing professional work. Dude! I was here to figure if I want this saw or not, but whoever is making this video has to notify this guy. I am not kidding for a second.

That thing will cut you just as easily as his other saw, even more easily if he continues to disrespect it. All in all, I wouldn’t hire this guy to be on my job site.
