It hit New Jersey so bad. l lost power for 10 days and a lot of people in my town had to take refuge in my high school. The immediately following the storm we had a blizzard and I remember being so cold at night because we had no power or any form of heat. But it really was a time where the community came together.

My family was very fortunate. We only lost power for a day. My grandparents who lived a mile away from us only lost their internet. They never lost their lights. Our house suffered no damage. We had a tree in our backyard fall on our house from Hurricane Irene in 2011. We had another backyard tree fall on a different part of our roof during Hurricane Isais in August 2020. Our roof sustained heavy damage from it. During Irene I was in our guest room (now my dads office) going through some stuff and I heard a big crash and I was like “what was that?” I came up the stairs and I saw through one of our kitchen picture windows a tree on the house and I immediately got my parents. It was after the storm came through and the tree succumbed to the damage it sustained during the storm. During Isais DURING the storm I was with my brother and we were talking with my dad in his office and out of the blue a we heard a huge crash on the roof and we immediately went outside and realized the other tree fell right over our heads. It fell on the part of the roof where my parents room is. When we did the cleanup after Isais we had the utility crew cut down whatever was left of the tree. I’ll never forget that.

One of the worst storm I’ve ever experienced as a New Yorker. First time I ever feared for my and my families life as the storm hit. The entire night the gust of wind blowing and numerous I thought my roof was flying off. I huddled with my then 2 years old daughter and husband in the dark the whole night. It was scary as hell.

My friend was in hurricane sandy... and I kind of feel guilty about not being born yet, not being able to experience it with her... but I’m also kind of glad I wasn’t born yet, being able to be safe. But the story she told me, was no one died, but when I watched this I had a few questions. It is now March 17, 2021. I want to learn how to prevent people from getting hurt in these things, especially in the case of a tornado. I also heard that a bomb exploded to, which is devastating. I hope no one is still recovering from there injuries, and they are all safe now.

Hey, I was an infant at the time, and I lived damn near the water where it happened. My parents have told me that when it hit, power went out. Obviously. But the water almost reached our door.(we lived upstairs at the time, we’ve moved though.)They’ve also told me that a car was up in a tree. Yes, up in a tree. After the storm passed, people were lining up their cars and opened the doors so we could crawl through. Fun fact, the picture where the man was walking in the water holding his dog, happened on MY BLOCK! I know right? Crazy stuff.

i was 6 when this happened.. my family is on long island, (me, my parents and my 4 y/o sister), 30 minutes from nyc and right next to the water. we basically did exactly what that woman said at 1:26! we only lost power for a good week, i believe? a tree fell on my neighbors house, and we have many huge trees around our homes, so we panicked a bit. we also had quite a bit of flooding, outside and inside our home, but besides that, we were all ok! (including my neighbor) i'm now 17, turning 18 in about a month and 1/2, actually 'bout the same age my parents were when they experienced hurricane gloria in 1985. looking back, i'm so thankful we didn't have it worse.

People across the World...we must realize that we share the same planet. its time to appreciate what we have in this lifetime. Whether you have family or not...we must love one another. I know its hard in a world where all we hear is bad news, but that is just a distraction from how beautiful this life really is. So much hate it is contagious, a disease, a virus that must be stopped and cut off from who we truly are. We are given the miracle of life..lets embrace it.

And before you say anything, I was hit by the storm, I know people who lost their homes, my cousins got hit badly, and I still hate it for not only canceling halloween for the second year in a row (Which I totally called last year after that snowstorm), but for keeping something I had been waiting for weeks to get for three whole days while it was fifteen minutes away from my house because the streets were closed.

I live in tornado alley, where without warning , strike late evening or during the night. Nature is something to not take lightly, if I lived where hurricane strike I'd get hotel inland until the Strom passes. A tornado 🌪 just a cloud then with little warning can cause immense destruction. One side of the street houses are leveled the other left untouched, can flip train cars off the tracks, drive blade of grass into a tree. Both are amazing extreme forces of nature.

I'm located almost at the center of Long Island (east, west, north, south). If you live within 10 minutes drive at the the shore line (near sea level) or had too many old trees on your property - then you have a real catastrophe. But to say a total catastrophe means 100% catastrophe. That's not the case for NJ NY or CT.

Same I was also six and I remember my sister crying (she was 2) because it was pretty dark, so she probably felt alone and scared. We ended up staying at our cousins house in PA till it was safe to go back.

My respect to those reporters who were willing to go out there and let us knew what happened.
I grew up in Belize (central america) so I'm familiar with what a good storm feels like. But to see a storm with this amount of energy hit the East Coast - Let's just conclude it's definitely historic.
Great job Sandy. It took me three days to get my internet working. THREE DAYS!!

Mummy Mummy! It's a good day outside can we go to the beach!!
Thank God David was watching that lamp post. I was sooo worried about that lamp post but I feel better knowing he is watching it for me.
I never lost power and now I get lots of money to fix all the roofs in my area thank you sandy

This storm brought a wintry mix to southeast michigan. I remember sleet coming down when entering school during the hurricane.

Bro I was living here when sandy hit nyc and my 2nd birthday was the month after that
First time seeing what Sandy did to Jersey Shore, wow! -just got my power back on 10 minutes ago (Northern Jersey). Prayers to all who've lost more than just electricity.
i was 6 when this happened.. my family is on long island, (me, my parents and my 4 y/o sister), 30 minutes from nyc and right next to the water. we basically did exactly what that woman said at 1:26! we only lost power for a good week, i believe? a tree fell on my neighbors house, and we have many huge trees around our homes, so we panicked a bit. we also had quite a bit of flooding, outside and inside our home, but besides that, we were all ok! (including my neighbor) i'm now 17, turning 18 in about a month and 1/2, actually 'bout the same age my parents were when they experienced hurricane gloria in 1985. looking back, i'm so thankful we didn't have it worse.
this video just helped me with homework awesome!
Me here 7 years later In Howard Beach where the storm hit us but luckily we were all safe and sound
I'm thai...sending love&prayers to NY
Sis that is the smallest flooding to me I went through Harvey and it felt like SHIT. Flooding was everywhere and so many people lost so much
Nice reporting Ginger!! We miss you here in Chicago!!
I was affected by Sandy I'm a couple miles away from the beach, all I saw outside my house was the sky lighting up with transmitters going out and trees blowing In the wrong direction they were supposed to go in. My house almost caught on fire beacuse the winds blew the telephone wires right in my drive way and I had a huge tree that was ruined the wired were attacked to the tree and braught down wires with it , it was really scary going out side in 100 mile winds and moving debre away from my
Awesome, I didn't know that. Thanks :) In that case, i hope the U.S. stay on that track.
I hope the people in the affected areas are doing ok
God be with us! God bless all the people stuck un the storm God is GOOD!
Thanks for the heads up ... calling now.
Dang this was 10 years ago 🥺
you sound like a cheery person and will get far in life! :)

So what catagory was this storm? I read somewhere that it was catagory 1 but I don't think that's right because why would they call it super storm sandy if it was only catagory 1?

i could not be a news weather reporter... standing outside in a hurricane is crazy
It was all fun and games until the storm literally flipped the roof off my house and it landed in a tree like 40 feet away, and I live about 80 miles from the coast
It's being liked because it's providing information about the storm.
Here on Long Island things have been getting better every day. If there was a problem - I would say it.
Props to the woman sacrificing her life to show the hurricane on the news.
i have personally nicknamed the storm a freak of nature because of everything it involved with it
My social studies teacher was in New York the day before the storm hit and she almost missed the last train.
This was a hurricane for some of it's journey. It's still hurricane season. And hurricane Gloria removed a section of Fire Island back in the 1980's. It created a new inlet which had to be filled. Do you remember that?
wow i am so glad i live in california hope the best for the east cost
May God help the people suffering from this natural calamity
I live in tornado alley, where without warning , strike late evening or during the night. Nature is something to not take lightly, if I lived where hurricane strike I'd get hotel inland until the Strom passes. A tornado 🌪 just a cloud then with little warning can cause immense destruction. One side of the street houses are leveled the other left untouched, can flip train cars off the tracks, drive blade of grass into a tree. Both are amazing extreme forces of nature.
"It is chaos along the Jersey Shore." Sounds like Jersey Shore alright.
I came from Brooklyn,NY and I was only 0 yr’s old I was a baby then
New Yorkers, as you flee your city and head south I will welcome you with the same hospitallity that you have always shown me.This tiny room is your for only $900 a night.
The northeast isn't used to storms like this, plus, we were hit with two storms last year. Remember the October snowstorm and Hurricane Irene? Coneticutt went over a month without power in the freezing cold, I know you guys get Hurricanes all the time but at least you know how to deal with them, plus, Sandy is one of the worst storms that have hit America since Katrina. We were even hit with a snowstorm after Sandy hit.
America can't be beaten by any hurricane. Our history has proved that.
Will it hit Indy?
our prayers are with you from iraq
During Sandy, a projectile hit one of my windows
I live in New Jersey and sheesh if I look outside every second during the storm, the sky would glow green with the transformers explosion think a about it about 50,000,000 people live just in New Jersey, Nee York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut! This small portion is so densely populated that the shelters were jammed to the max in short amount of time trapping millions in New Jersey!
i was thinking the same thing,i wouldn't feel safe there anymore!
tell that to the people of Breezy Point, Staten Island, Seaside Heights, Battery Park, Long Beach and all 200 families that lost a loved one in this storm
NY hasnt a hurricane since 1992 now there have been 2 in a Row, hurricane Irene in 2011 and Hurricane Sandy in 2012, do you guys think that there will be a hurricane EVERY single year now? Do you think it will become a regular thing?
"One of the safest and driest places..." but you see her getting blown like crazy with flood all over and wind like crazy loll Best of wishes to East Coast! Stay strong!
House, yeah my whole town got ruined and stuff my friends who moved away couldn't contact me cuz the power was out in my town for 3-2 weeks. Just now my town is slowly recuperating from sandy, where I live ALOT of my childhood/ favorite buildings and hang out areas is gone and never coming back. Sandy ruined my town but made it stronger in so many ways :)
are we expecting something like this again.. especially happening in the Philippines..?
Thank god for this storm, Finally i can get a job.
And as for Long Island, you have to take into account that we have not had a significant storm since Gloria - the 1980's. It's been about 30 years since Gloria. The trees that have fallen (causing the power blackouts) were old and have finally met there end with Sandy.
yo tenia 12 años cuando sucediio y lo recuerdo muy bien
And don't forget the fact that in a twenty mile stretch of real estate in joplin, more people died. Having known people who died in Joplin, I can't help but wonder why it is that hurricanes are always remembered, but few outside of SW MO will ever utter the event of the tornado ever again.
Hurricane "Sandy" had the maximum wind speed in US of 110 mph (49 ish meters per sec) , That sadly caused havoc in New York and other places. While "Iceland" today had windspeed up to 70 meters per sec or 150 mph. We call it winter time.
With hurricanes being as powerful as they are, it is not surprising that upon landfall they cause damage and destruction.
Thank you to our friends in Saudi Arabia.
I WAS IN HURRICANE SANDY. I LIVE IN FAIRFAX, NEAR DC.
I live in NJ and the power went out.
you're awesome :D
I'm located almost at the center of Long Island (east, west, north, south). If you live within 10 minutes drive at the the shore line (near sea level) or had too many old trees on your property - then you have a real catastrophe. But to say a total catastrophe means 100% catastrophe. That's not the case for NJ NY or CT.
