Hurricane Sandy aftermath - Raw video from Long Beach Island, NJ

Raw footage of the aftermath of Sandy on LBI (Long Beach Island NJ)
I love this place and stayed there many many times before moving to SW Florida
My heart goes out to all that got caught in Hurricane Sandy and especially to everyone on LBI

My brother lost everything. He left Chadwick Beach Sunday night before the storm. I was down there weeks before and noticed the bay was so ruff. Mother Nature does what she wants to do we have no control no matter what part of the world you live and there is water everywhere. We are cleaning up and rebuilding. I'm worried about mold and my brother. ;( BE safe and thank you for the video.

I moved to LBI in 1975 and grew up in Holgate and Beach Haven. I Have been through many hurricanes there but have never seen something like this before. I just watched a video with my friends trailer park, Farrenyville. It seems not to be hit as hard as I thought. Good luck Bryan!

Hello...thank you so much for this amazing footage..... did you go over Holgate area? We still dont know if the house survived?

Awesome :-), I was hoping to see more of the island, but from what I do see here, it looks like it survived. I'm sure a lot of water damage occurred and other structural damage, but most of the houses are left standing which is a good thing, all things considered. Good luck with the clean-up and recovery.

Thanks, I wasn't 100% sure as things are quite a mess. I have heard some commentary that it had included Spray Beach and south. Hard for me to tell exactly.

This video was taken the very next day after the hurricane moved through. The Island was almost deserted as the people who lived there evacuated. These shots were the very first of LBI and happened just before assessment teams arrived. It was the entirety of the NJ shore and NYC shore that was hit, resources were stretched a bit thin. Since most had left the Island, need for rescue was minimal. Unlike Atlantic City where quite a few people stayed, thus needed assistance quickly.

I don't think so jimcurdy. Those islands have been there for a long time. What is massive damage in terms of human development and habitation is nothing more than a couple of insignificant shifts in terms of the islands' geology. It's humbling.

There is a video for Barnegat Light. It's the area directly around the lighthouse and another for Harvey Cedars, but I don't have one for points between... I.E. Love Ladies.

Sorry about some of this negative nonsense, I look in every few days and delete it. He is one of several that have done something like this and all of which have been blocked and their posts deleted.

This was worst than the March 1962 storm, this tide from Sandy was much higher and most of this damage came from the 1 tide on the evening of October 29th unlike the 1962 storm that took 3 tides to cause the damage, thank God we did not get 3 high tides like the one on Oct 29th or it would have been even worst than this turned out!!

yes, we all evacuated before the storm. i dont think any people died. if so its a small number based off of the ones who refused to evacuate

I get the impression that if those buildings were not there the entire island would be history.

Yeah, so I've seen and heard. Areas around Holgate were the hardest hit and most damaged.
