Hurricane Idalia - Steinhatchee Florida - Drone before and after storm surge flooding

Drone shots showing the extensive flooding after storm surge rushed into Steinhatchee, FL from Hurricane Idalia. I also shot before video a couple of days prior to the storm. Unfortunately I was unable to match up the video as weather conditions were less than ideal.

Would not be so much of a problem if we actually built houses as if there was potential flooding possible some day. So all we needed to do is wait for drainage and a bit of a wipe down to make them habitable again quickly after storm surge events. But I guess that would be slightly more expensive up front instead of massively more expensive on the back end so short sighted humanity will never get there.

The Navy started work on preparing the base at Norfolk to deal with climate change back in the 1970's right after the major report from the one oil company came out. They have done a great job of suppressing that support once they realized the economic impact. The military has done a lot of preparation since that report came out so that they don't get caught out. Then you have the people who think it's all a hoax, they can take the brunt of it and we can just continue to tell them that it isn't happening.

I heard insurance compnaies have been moving out of there though. I don't think it would be worth living there if you don't have it.

I'm 500 ft above sea level. With a water view and I face east, so I get first light every morning. Don't need FL. And I don't want to pay for idiots to keep rebuilding in flood zones

Working on getting my aunt and uncle out of there now. It's hard to find someone to buy houses though. They haven't put theirs up yet, but there are several houses that have been on the market for over 6 months in their area. Their house survived Ian with just some damage to their pool cage and it's a nice house, but who wants to move Fort Myer.

@@MiracleFound a friend is a real estate agent in Orlando. Says banks won't write loans on any house with a roof over 20 years old in FL or with ANY roof degradation. Only 5 insurance companies remain, and they'll be leaving soon no doubt.

@@mikew9793 my aunt and uncle put on a hurricane rated roof that made it through Ian with no damage. Maybe the other houses don't have newer roofs. I am hoping that we can get their house sold and get them into a senior community (they are in their mid 80's). I can't go through another hurricane where they didn't leave because it was too much for them to do what was needed to leave. I offered to fly down and drive them out and pack what they needed to bring with. They need to be near family where we can take care of them.

Poor Frank. I pray you find a Bible teaching church and learn the truth about God. We live in a fallen world. Jesus clearly stated we would experience disasters of all types. But if you believe in Him, he will be with you throughout the trials. This world is not our home. Heaven is our home and Jesus will be there to welcome His family when we die. Sending up prayers for you.
