Meanwhile, a galley loaded with slaves coming over the Black Sea is heading towards Istanbul. The hottest of the slaves is not yet aware that he is on a journey that will change his destiny. He is rebelling helplessly to return.
Sultan Süleyman wants to show what kind of sultan he is by the commands he gave on the first day of his sultanate. But not everyone will like these decisions. Sultan Süleyman does not hesitate to challenge all of Europe with the messages he sends.
Alex, despite all his rebellion, is brought to the Topkapi palace. His attitude attracted the attention of Valide Sultan from the first moment. But it won't be long before Alex learns the rules of the palace. He chooses a great target. Alex, Sultan Suleyman's first night on the way to attract his attention. Sultan Suleiman's wife Mahidevran just arrived from the palace of Manisa. He is looking forward to seeing his wife.
Ama Alex’in sarayın kurallarını öğrenmesi uzun sürmez. Kendisine büyük bir hedef seçer. Alex, Sultan Süleyman’ın karşısına çıktığı ilk gecede onun ilgisini çekmeyi başarır. Sultan Süleyman’ın eşi Mahidevran ise Manisa sarayından yeni gelmiş. Eşi ile görüşmeyi sabırsızlıkla beklemektedir.

I swear the only enemy worthy of fighting Hurrem is Ibrahim! Even if they always tried to take the other down, they always respected each other. They had a special bond and I really think they secretly admired each other. If they were on the same side they would've made a great team!

"Nobody asks for permission from Ibrahim Pasha." One of the major differences between Mahidevran and Hurrem, honestly. Mahidevran always needed her allies in the end while Hurrem had been trained to stand without anyone on her side.

But while she didn't exactly develop out of it like it happened with many other traits, Mahidevran had that way less in Manisa. She acted herself more often and didn't say stuff like do you think Ibrahim Pasha would let this anymore.

@@plams4488 This wasn't a dig against Mahidevran just a reflection on where each woman started and the affects it had on them, which I find interesting. Besides, even after her Manisa glow up, you could argue Mahidevran still drew on alliances, such as with Gulfem or the sultan's sisters. Something that, as the series progresses, Hurrem borrows as a similiar model. I actually like it in their characters somewhat as it's one of the few well protrayed contrats between the old ways that Mahidevran represents and the newer ones that Hurrem does.

@@Redluna32 Agreed! I know it's an interesting contrast, but it sometimes gets ruined when the fandom views it in extremes, without the nuance, like how both approaches ended up being flawed, and only use it to champion one in the expense of another, equally interesting character.

It's just always a little tricky as what I've thought an interesting complexity of Mahidevran's character has been seen as an effort to drag her down. It reminds me of a conversation she later has with Mustafa. If only Mahidevran hadn’t pushed Hürrem into an adversarial relationship. The latter has a handful of sons; she’d have a vested interest in letting Mustafa live if only to avoid setting a precedent of fratricide for her own sons - in turn benefitting Mahidevran. Whoops.

Exactly. And people like Mahidevran or Hatice were naive, they could not control their emotions so they always ended up making mistakes. But even Sah Huban or Fatma, they were much smarter and patient, yet so ambitious and full of themselves being blood members of the dynasty- untouchable. Hürrem fought beside her status, she never underestimated any of her opponents and she would carefully look for tiny weak points which she would exploit to start weakening them until her ending attack. She got cocky sometimes, which led to her losing some battles, but other than that she was a fantastic opponent. Ibrahim was such a good match, but arrogance is what took him down eventually.

Turhan says in KOSEM series.. you have to go against the most powerful one and beat them to BECOME the most powerful and you have to do it carefully. ------ and she killed Kosem. SO a little more lethal than Hurrem, Hurrem was the first one out of the gate and made her son a king. Salim.

From the little history I know, the women in the harem were slaves. They are all not Muslims because there is a prohibition against making a Muslim as a slave. They were brought from different continents to work in the harem. As well as Yanisari, they are kidnapped from their families and becomes a slave. And because Ibrahim before serving as a pasha was a Yanisari, it is true, he was a slave. what makes it different is some of them have a high position compared to other slaves, but still the fact is that they are slaves

A child would be taken as a form of taxation from Christian families in the European provinces (although some were taken from Muslim families in Bosnia), or Asia Minor who were under Ottoman rule to be selected to become a Yanisari or high ranking sultan. because the recruited child could reach the position of grand vizier, there were some parents who even paid bribes to have their child taken. Actually the story of a slave who can get a position as a queen or an honorary concubine is not just a story from the Ottoman Empire. During the Joseon dynasty a servant slave who worked in the palace was also able to obtain a high title and occupy the position of a queen and give birth to a successor to the throne. The Ottomans in my opinion have a unique system of selecting a consort for the Sultan. Unlike other European kingdoms which married a king to a princess from another kingdom, they chose women from the lower classes. The reason as far as I know is so that they can't interfere in political affairs. but in the end it became oroni after the female sultanate era.

Ok with all of congratulations to Hürrem but, don't forget something: all of her actions, show only one thing: revenge! Hürrem did all these things, because deeply, in her mind, had only one plan: to destroy the Ottoman Empire! There wasn't love in her actions, only revenge!

Hurrem wanted to keep her kids alive! Would you have stood waiting for Mustapha to be Sultan, your boys executed, your daughter married off somewhere and for you to be banished and forgotten?! Hurrem didn't have a broblem as long as Sulaiman is still sultan her goal was to make one of her kids a sultan after him that way she could be sure nothing is going to happen to her and her other kids!

@@nesrinebk2743 like Mahidevran, Hürrem was keeping from her kids to be powerful! She wanted to keep her kids alive, to stay alive too! About Mustapha, we will never know if he would keep the tradition, which wanted the first-born son kills his brothers to take the throne! Mustapha proved his love for them, especially for Mehmet!

@@rosekoufopoulou8973 there were no signs that Mustapha was against the tradition! And going by his supporters, it is clear to me that they would advised him to do it. I don't fault mahidevran either! She too had a right to protect her son. And any woman would have acted the same as mahidevran and hurrem.

yes, hurrem says that while on the way to Topkapi. She even prayed for the destruction of the dynasty because she didn't want to work in the harem. But she changed her mind after meeting Sulaeman. She fell in love with him and it wasn't just about power. She has already proven her love several times and even almost drank poison when she thought that she almost lost Sulaeman's love
