    For those who dont know, the oil isnt just like, canola oil. its sesame oil which has a great flavor. just thought id point that out since he just calls it oil in the video and sesame oil is probably something that most people who arent familiar with asian cooking have encountered.

    They aren't. I believe those heating elements consist of some chemical. Don't know the name or what the residue of that particular chemical reaction is, but I doubt it is recyclable.     I've seen some comments asking what the packets in the self heating meals are, and to put it in what I guess most Americans would understand it as, it's a large water activated Hot Hands packet. It uses the same principle to stay hot and heat things for a long time, these are just like the gigantic versions.

    It would definitely taste better with a sprinkle of beach sand. It’s funny that I’ve finally come across something from these videos at my local Asian market. Thanks to the video I’ll actually give it a shot.

    Can you buy just the heat packs in bulk? I could imagine using them to steam meat/veggies when no microwave is around.
