This is such a wonderful memory for you both. I must have watched this hunt 15 or 20 times in the last couple years. Raising a son to hunt with is a privilege. I have 4 sons, 18 years old down to 4 years old. I Have only taken my youngest hunting with me, due to life circumstances. Being a lifelong hunter, and being denied the opportunity to teach, and enjoy hunting together with your sons is a terrible, terrible burden. Great job guys.

We used to live in Stevensville MT, and I loved it... Hunting with my son was the highlight of it all... Now he is off and married... and living 10 hours away... Sadly, we don’t get to hunt much any more... Cherish the memories, they are the stuff of life.

You changed my perspective on hunters. I always thought hunters were disgusting people who just kill for fun but no. You guys actually work your ass off and fail quite a lot. I now have mad respect for you and seeing that you filled your tag in another video even though you didn't kill it just makes me respect you even more. Thank you.

Ok that is how you shoot elk. Tired of seeing the one shot wonders in hunting television. I love the fact that Randy made THREE good shots on his bull and didn't sit there and watch him die. I don't know why that bothers me maybe seen too many inexperienced elk hunters wound elk or lose elk because they only shoot once. I was raised if they are still standing you better keep shooting. awesome video and nice shooting Randy and his son.

Thanks, John. My motto with elk is this, "If they are still standing, I'm still shooting." Ammo is the least expensive part of my hunt and I am not going to risk losing a hit animal so long as I can be doing something to prevent it. Best of luck to you.

I agree and my Late Father always told me if he is making forward progress keep shooting. Randy hunts with a 308 or 7mm 08 and he knows that he may have to shoot em more than once. Doesn’t matter if you use a 300 win mag or even bigger if it can happen hunting it will.

Randy, I just started watching your videos last week as i prepare for my second hunting trip here in Tulare County, in California. I know where Iam able to hunt is over hunted with little game to shoot. I have learned a great deal from your videos as i watch them now religiously. I love what you have done for this sport and how you represent yourself on each episode as a compassionate hunter but also respecting the animals you hunt. Your knowledge and experience is by far the best i hsve seen. Love the video's. Keep them coming. Thank Andy G.

Nice to hear at 8:50, your epiphany on the elk movements. I thought, "ya, he's a regular guy.... finally figured it out." Too much to ask, I guess, the elk to trample a guy's tent first thing in the morning. lol And I feel every ounce in your packs watching you hump out kills all over the geography. Congratulations on some fantastic and amazing footage in some of the most beautiful scenery on earth! Man, I bet that elk tastes good!

That is absolutely awesome that you got a helicopter ride to get to a land locked piece of public land. We in NM had that issue with a piece of public land (Sabinoso wilderness), and this last year a private group bought a piece of the private land and is in the process of turning it over to BLM (or one of the agencies) now allowing access for everyone to enjoy the public land. www.abqjournal.com/713850/news/public-access-to-nm-sabinoso-wilderness-almost-there.html

Randy, you always talk about planning your hunts around private property, but on public lands.. and I know it involves doing a lot of homework/research, but can you go over exactly what methods you use to delineate the private lands? In other words, what is your process for determining private property lines out in the real word/where you can and can't hunt? What resources have you found to be best? Is it as simple as downloading a map on handheld GPS? And by the way, I have found that I have not only enjoyed your videos but have learned more from your successes as well as failures than any others. Thanks for keeping it real!

I would love to get to the point where I can say I don't really want to work that hard ( referencing hiking 6 miles ). I've covered 150 miles since the start of bow season out in the gravelly's and have only gotten into elk opening day. Haven't even seen or heard any the rest of the season. I'm almost convinced the elk are grown in a test tube and only allowed to leave for tv shows :P

I know what you are saying, took me a while to change my own habits. I find the mold-in-ear stuff to sweaty/ uncomfortable but active earmuffs works. On the head when game is spotted and on the ears when rifle is readied. If legal, a silencer also really helps you and disturbs the game less. Too many pro-hunters over here (2-300 deer/year) your age need hearing aids now.

For the comment randy made about this is public land and you have a right to hunt it. .yes I get it but we used to hunt at this guys land and to get access to this public land you had to call uo the land owners to see if you can drive thr6there property to get to the public land. He first said yes. But a yr later he denied people to get through his land to the public. Because people were shoot mule deer and elk on his land . So I totally understand when people don't want you to access through their land
