That’s pretty cool. You can tell it wasn’t no trailer queen, built to be ridden and ridden hard. Good to see a bike like that still around and kicking.

Tin Man A lot of them are being shipped to Japan because they are the ones paying for them. As Todd stated it who’s has the money is where they go. Problem I see with it is that the culture which made them isn’t being kept alive here in the states.

  • @tinman7130

@@hack2it which means if you want one buy it. No one is stopping you. I've worked in the motorcycle industry on Harley's since 1968 and most of that as a dealership service tech. A lot of the bikes being exported weren't even wanted 2 decades ago by Americans. When I was young in hte 1970's you could have all the pans you wanted to ride home for less then a grand. It's a free market in operation. I see none of this "culture" talk as holding up. At best folks don't want to pay what the market will bare, So they want the bikes to stay here but what they mean is they want them to be cheap with no real competition for them . At worst it is a racist assumption that only us 'mericans get to own an old Harley. If the British had operated off that silly assumption then no one in the United states (let alone the rest of the world) would have ever owned a British bike.

The look says Chopper, But this IS a 1970s Bobber. Also that is a healthy Pan motor, Just needs a little loving (I so wanted to tune er up a bit once I saw the kind of compression she had. The people that treat these old bikes like a business, have driven the price so high for the working people. Try piecing together a Knucklehead from a swap meet today. Two years ago, at our local AMCA meet. I saw Knucklehead cylinders, heads, and rockers....$10,000.00, non negotiable.

If you come across a shovelhead chopper I'd be an interested buyer. I love the NorCal styled bikes. Been scouting eBay and missed out on a few I would have liked to buy.

Several events caused this. NO HD dealership from 1938 to 1990 in Japan. The USA devalued their money to spur exports to Japan allowing them to buy our old machines at a comparative 1/3rd to 1/5th off the price. Lastly. Put a bike up for sale for X amount, the American offers you a price about 1/5th lower, the Japanese customer says I'll take it, how many more do you have?

HuntingHarleys Exactly, plus we took shit off our bikes ,today they have stick on chrome for any part of the new bikes. Can’t help but laugh when they pull up and don’t know what’s going on with the motor for all that shit music coming from 10 different spots on the bike. Gotta have saddle bags for the 2000watt amp. Look at the bikes the Japanese are riding today. Straight outta the 60’s and early 70’s. Too bad our young people don’t care about how it all got started. Cup holders heated hand grips... don’t let me get started. Cool bikes you have there brother. FTW!

Hi, I used to ride a 65 Pan Head with a Knuckle Head straight leg frame, back in the early 70’s we molded the frame, sat the sporter tank low on the frame, kick start only, Removed all electric start, small 3/4 inch rake, and a little extra engine work with hotter can, bigger pistons, stock carburetor! So now I ready to waive some money your way and will drive down south to your location as I am looking for a Pan Head Basket Case that needs some TLC! I sent you an email ASAP? Thanks 🙏 Brother!

Im so happy the era of destroying vintage HD's by turning a stock bike into todays style is over, even though i destroyed 2 vintage big twins and 1 Iron Head myself to make em look like David Mann bikes lol

Makes you wonder, what the hell were we thinking by chopping those old bikes up? Back then though we had no idea that someday our lifestyle would become another yuppie fad.
