Hunting for Short-Eared Owls: Wildlife Photography Adventure

Ойын-сауық

HI Friends! Thanks so much for stopping by, and watching my Wildlife Nature Documentary! This episode we are in my home state of Wisconsin, finding some Short Eared Owls! In this Animal Documentary, we do a little solo winter camping, have some relaxing music, have some nature sounds, photograph some owls, spend some time in the freezing cold of the arctic vortex, and hopefully capture some Wildlife footage in 4K that would make national geographic proud!
Come behind the scenes while I use my Canon R3, Canon R5, Canon 400mm 2.8 IS II L, and capture this Nat Geo Wild inspired nature documentary!
Of course, I do some Truck Camper Living in my 2023 Scout Kenai Truck camper! Winter Camping inside a truck bed camper isn't always easy, but the Kenai kept me super comfy all night! This is my version of "Van Life" haha. But living off the grid is so satisfying and freeing!

    The owls in flight are amazing. I know how hard it is to just capture photos of birds in flight, terrific job at filming them in flight. I don't know how you handle the cold either. Thanks for another great journey.

    I can hear the cold in your voice lol. I didn't even know they made gloves that thick! (says the guy in 82 degree Florida currently). Awesome video, as always. Your skills are definitely NatGeo level for sure.

    Nice video. Really good footage. As someone that is just starting to do some owl photography and winter wildlife photography... good to know whats in store. Not sure my roof top tent and diesel heater are up to the weather challenge. But, willing to find out. We will see how it goes. Currently looking for my first Great Grey Owl. I will check out your other videos.

    Beautiful owls. Thanks for sharing them. BTW, are you glad you went without the bunk windows? Prolly warmer in there. Just curious! 😊

    Thank you! It's honestly a mixed bag. The extra light, and the cross breeze would be amazing. But I do so much traveling in "bug" season, that It would really bother me to stare at bugs the entire time 😂

    Wow great footage Josh! Two questions, do you shoot the video in slow motion or is it slowed down in post and also do you have to take any special precautions with your equipment when it gets that cold? Thank you so much!

  • @FoxandFir

    @FoxandFir

    Thanks so much! It's a bit of both. I need to shoot in the frame rate I want it to be, and then slow it later in post. And nope, just keep it cold! The batteries drain faster when they are cold, So I dont let them sit in the cold over night. But the camera and lens are totally fine, and I just keep them cold and never let them warm up!
