Hunting a MONSTER Chital Stag!
The Huntsman | Season 2 | Episode 3
Join Chris Waters (The Huntsman) as he joins his friend Bill stalking bucks and stags in South Australia during the heart of the Rut and Roar (fallow deer and red deer breeding season). Watch as the boys sneak into thick rut stands surrounded by croaking bucks and experience close encounters like you've never seen before. Nowhere else in Australia is the fallow and red deer breeding display such a spectacle. While the boys were chasing a particular buck everything changed when they spotted a monster chital stag...
BONUS EPISODE
On this trip, Chris shot another monster, a big mature fallow buck just after an emergency bowel movement! You can watch the entire hunt here in this season 2 bonus episode: • BIG buck down.

Haha, it was madness there. We were hunting in Water Valley which is a large collection of cattle stations, 116,000+ acres all connected together and surrounded by a high fence. It's a very unique place. Not somewhere I'd want to hunt regularly. I love my state forest. But well worth exploring for a unique hunting experience. There is nowhere else like it in Australia.

grouse edit an production here Chris, captivating footage. awesome to see fallow deer in good numbers of Bucks v does, if everyone in the state forests didnt shoot the first buck they got in on grunting we too could experience magic as it happens.... unfortunatly, too many young bucks being shot every April means we will never see this kind of thing in the true wild. weird times. enjoying the new video styles..... warm barrels.

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement HillDog, i appreciate it. It would be awesome to see this kind of display in SF. I personally don't mind new hunters taking a young buck, but anyone who has hunted for a decent amount of time should have the restraint and wisdom to let them go. I hunt for meat, so a doe/hind is always a win. Thank you again for your encouragement brother.

@@Thehuntsmanshow I bet. I heard my first croaks this year although I was a little early and they weren't fully fired up yet it was still a cool experience. Can't even imagine hearing the roar at the same time plus running into chital.

When hunting alone i like to chamber a round and hold back the trigger when closing the bolt then only have to lift and close the bolt to be ready. This is pretty silent

Hi Rodney. Where I'm from we call that a 'dead bolt'. I agree with you, it's both a great way to ensure your rifle is safe and also allow for a silent engagement. Thanks for sharing mate!

Love your video. My only negative comment is that you should get rid of the background music, because it makes it very hard to hear you talk and also to the stags croaking.

Good feedback Alan, I appreciate it. Sometimes i feel the pressure to add background music to help "set the scene" but I'm starting to trust the content more and let important sections just play out with the audio captured via the camera. For the episode that releases at the end of this month the entire stalk doesn't have any music. Which I think is the right call rather than try and fabricate tension. Thank you again for the feedback Alan. Chris

  • @Thehuntsmanshow

    @Thehuntsmanshow

    18 күн бұрын

Hoggies are probably the hardest to go after. Not because they are particularly cunning, Just because there is a limited season (one month), they are a small deer (they get easily lost in the bush) and because the only way to hunt them is sit in a blind for days.

Hey Rich. Bill is a legend haha. The scope is the Burris Eliminator 5. It's a fantastic scope. It takes into account your distance from your target via an internal range finder as well as your bullets co efficient and altitude and move the reticle to where you should be pointing. Pretty sweet.

I like bolt locked forward onto a confirmed empty chamber, trigger held as the bolt locks down do there's no way a round can be collected or that the bolt can fire regardless. A retracted bolt could potentially collect a round, catch on something and damage the bolt or fall out.

  • @Thehuntsmanshow

I'm a big fan of the 'dead bolt' configuration too. It's how i hunt when I'm alone. But when hunting with others it does pay to make sure everyone is comfortable and knows the condition of the rifle. This is the only draw back of the dead bolt set up in my opinion. There is no way to know from the outside whether there is a round in the chamber or not. Great points though. Thank you for sharing :)
