I found this so interesting as in the UK most people are Eventers or Showjumpers and we don't really have many hunter classes!

HorseyTube That is another thing in the UK we don't have barns! We say we are going to the stables or he yard😂 Most people over here are Eventers so most places have instructors that can teach every discipline👍 I need to make a video on my channel about equestrian in the UK Vs the US☺️

Love this! No hate at all but hunters typically focus way more on the horse (having shown on the trillium hunter circuit for 4 years) and at the bronze level, manes do not have to be braided (: also in the undersaddle, judges look at the horses relaxation and movement, which is why the rider is in a half seat to allow the horse full motion. Great video! Just thought it would be important to help educate more thoroughly on this discipline (: I'd love to see a controversial tack video! (Talking about opinions on bits etc..)

I do hunters and let's just say its FLIPPING hard
Main Point: Jumper-get over jumps quickly Hunter-be pretty about jumping That’s it
I`m currently between Hunter and Jumper. I as a jumper, but a really bad fall destroyed my jumping confidence, so I went to hunter to help regain it. With my new horse, I`m slowly switching back, but I`m having a hard time remembering the courses....
A few things to add- -In hunters, you do not need mane or tail braided and some shows -Equitation is not important in hunters, Equitation and hunters are different divisions -Local schooling show hunters are for straightforward courses, bigger shows however have more difficult courses. -You must get good distances -Not all shows require you to jog -Undersaddle is based on horse’s movement -must have consistent pace Great video!
i loved this!! here in italy (but i think europe in general) we dont have anything such as hunters... but i personally prefer jumpers anyways, i would still be a jumper even if we had hunters lol

Sara Marcon same (I’m Australian btw) I don’t understand how the horses get over the jumps when they are ridden that flat (on the forehand) like my horse would knock the rails or refuse.
Oh my goodness your editing is so perfect I can't even explain ahh😍👑
Love this! I'm a hunter, and for one equitation course, I swore it was a mix up! It looked exactly like a jumper course!

From my experience, equitation has harder turns because as a rider some times you need to get crafty and turn in different ways. This is just from my experience and how my trainer explained it to me 😂
As a hunter, once you learn it’s so easy!
I ride and compete Hunters and Jumpers and this is the most straight forward break down I have ever seen! Love the vid!!
I'm so glad you and Daria posted !

Yeah, Hunters needs more credit... I mean, somebody has to get the horses to act that well... But yes, I really enjoy focusing on my hosre's comfort and disposition more than my own. I like it when my horse is happy over the jumps, unlike some jumpers who just want to jump high and fast, but that's it.

Equitation is actually a completely different divsion, which is the opposite of hunters! Hunters is only judged on the horse, and not at all on the rider. Manes also don't need braided :)

Erica Equestrian you can’t look ugly but you don’t have to be the best. That’s how hunters work, especially the pony ones. We all look good or else we wouldn’t be competing in a class of 20. We also have eq in our divisons though

I agree with the manes thing as long as it is a local show. A or A A rated shows are a lot different since we have to look nice
That helped me so much! Usually i struggle to understand stuff like this but i understood everything!!!❤
This was super well edited!! I loved it!
love love love these collabs!!!
Perfect and concise. I show western and wanted a quick explanation of hunter, jumper and hunter under saddle. Thank you !
This helped a lot! I have never known the difference between hunters and jumpers, so thank you! The video was super clear and I understood easily. Great video!
Thank you for makeing this it helped me a lot
This really helped me i am in hunters now and this will help me decide if i want to do jumpers down the road or stay with hunters
Maya I love how ur coming out with more videos ❤️
I loved this video but I did notice a couple things that were just slightly off(not trying to be rude at all, I love your channel). I don't know if the rules are the same in Canada, but in the U.S. hunters are judged only on the horse. We have hunter and equation classes separated but they are almost always in the same ring with the same judge. Also, not every hunter/eq show you go to requires their mane/tale to be braided. Again, I just wanted to let you know, it might be different in Canada. Love you and your videos☺️
@cmwattam

It's a little different here in Canada. Hunter as a division includes equitation and undersaddle. so "Hunter over fences" is judging mostly just your horse while jumping. "Equitation over fences" is judging mostly the rider over fences. "Equitation" is judging mostly the rider on the flat, and "Hunter undersaddle" is judging mostly just the horse on the flat. There's also slightly different riding styles for equitation vs. hunter. Equitation you want to ride in a full seat with your horse collected in a frame and in hunter you want a half-seat with your horse "long and low". (Sorry went on a tangent)

Cameron _ Dose in the US you have the option of having the judge judge you or judge the horse
@gottalovehorses4834

My.bay.slays No, in the US hunters are always only judged on the horse. The equitation of the rider really doesn't matter as long as the horse is moving well. Hope this helped!! 😊🐎

Cameron _ Dose well most do not require manes to be braided but it's done to make you and your horse look more crisp and sharp and it looks better than having a mane flopping around when you ride

One of the main purposes of braiding is to show off a horse's conformation and collection, besides the fact that it looks neater.
This is wonderfully put together video! thanks! :)
Interesting. I ride western, and never really understood the differences. Thanks for clearing it up!
Awesome, I haven’t been riding long and still learning to jump but when I get to that stage I think I’ll prefer jumper
Thank you! This was very helpful because I’m thinking of leasing a hunter jumper.
In Puerto Rico we only have jumpers (beside paso fino). When I moved to the states I was enrolled in a hunters class. I had no idea. The instructor was so harsh on me because I was used to riding Jumpers and just wasn’t getting it. Made me quit riding sadly. But now I understand why I struggled so much. If I could I would get back to jumping! Thanks for the informative video!
Thanks this video really helped and now I have somewhat of an idea on the different riding styles....

Yesss thank you. I need to send this to my friend. She believes hunters is harder, and much more difficult than jumpers, in which i believe all disciplines are fairly very difficult and they all have their struggles, she doesn’t know a slight difference between the 2, and i think this would be educational for her to watch.
i recently just had someone in my family die and it hurts so bad and i want you to know that i come home from school so upset and i come and watch your videos and you and luna make me smile and i would love to meet you some day❤️😘
super interesting! didn't know there were different kinds of jumping.
me running like a duck with my horse acting up: ah yes were very good at this I swear
We do a hunter class (short stirrup equitation) which we don't need to braid
Omg, this totally reminded me of a MyEquineAddiction video, I love it. Y'all need to make a collab channel together❗️❗️❤
Wow thanks I really needed this :)
In Germany We don't have a hunter class, but we have something similar. The jumping class get apart in two ways of judging on de of these is how you explained in the video and the other one is very similar to hunter judgment
I just made the switch from hunter to jumper after almost 8 yrs. The horse i show was trained for jumper but i always rode hunter on him. I can really tell how much happier he is in jumper classes
Thank you so much!! In italy there are pretty much only showjumpers or dressagers and very few eventers! Hunting does non exist here so I was very confused when I first heard of it! However,equitation in valutated in the exames thath you have to do in order to get the licence!
I LOVE YOUU😭

Can you do a video of the difference between a Hunter course and cross country? Please, it would help me a lot to find out exactly what I want to do. Thank you!
Thanks a lot for your explanation... I always didnt understand by now what is the difference in hunters and jumpers

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
I’m still deciding what disapline to go into and I was pretty set on show jumping but the jumps get really big really fast and are pretty complex and then there hunters that are relatively smaller and less complicated I’m now pretty unsure what to go into becAue both are amazing in their own ways I’m leaning more towards hunters now though but show jumping will always be in the back of my mind

Show Jumping is what I'm learning right now c: lots of fun
Yaaas Maya😍😍
tysm I needed to learn hunting
What do you show? I also do prelude and 'A' circuit, I was at the Royal the same day you were!
In our country there is only a smooth jumping. What is the difference between them?
This helped a lot as I am interested in English riding 😁
Can you enter a hunter class if your horse doesn't have a mane? Will they still let you in?
as a western rider, I honestly had no idea the difference and thought the two were interchangeable! whoops! this was very informative!
Do you guys think I should keep doing show jumping or switch to eventing
Hey I’m a jumper do any of y’all have tips on how to make the transition to hunter easier by any chance?
thank you! now i make the differences
I do Southwest Trillium too!
Is the hunter class the same as the working hunters in ireland/England
Ahh this will help me because I just switched to jumpers from hunters
Hi!! I’m a kind if newer rider looking to start showing. I really think I’ll do best and have the most fun in jumpers, and I also have ADHD and a lot of trouble focusing on multiple things at once, I prefer a few main points of focus, and in order to improve, I need to know exactly where I went wrong. Subjectivity can be really frustrating to me. I know a lot of people who start out showing in hunters, and I’m willing to give both a fair shake, but I think it would be best to try jumpers. Should I bring this up with my instructor?? Thank you!!
@Whimsy_18
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! It depends on what kind of barn you go to Hunters or Jumpers etc (Just Because some trainers only teach hunters or jumpers.) I recommend if you are new to showing or just starting out that you do hunter flats Walk trot or walk, trot, canter just to see how you like it. I’m am a hunter and have never tried jumpers, but one of my good friends rides jumpers and both are amazing and fun! In my humble opinion hunters is more laid back and jumpers are a little more difficult. Also if you don’t feel that comfortable jumping (Because in jumpers there are usually no flats) I would 100% recommend walk trot or walk trot canter. Hope this helped!
That was an awesome video did you know Eden Ridge is actually my horse trainers place
What kind of saddle do you use??
I mainly do jumper but I also do hunter!
Hey maya I moved barns about 5 months ago and I've been doing great but all of the sudden my coach told me that I was moving backwards but the lesson before that she told me I was advancing. Any advice or tips? LYSM

@pureequestrian5700

Are you reviewing things because you need a refresher? That's okay! We all do. Sometimes I even need to work on my figure eights because I'm suddenly forgetting to change my diagonals, and I'm a prelim eventer, for heaven sakes! We all have periods of time where we feel off in our riding and need to go back to basics. Don't stress over it. Move on to other things when you feel ready and have fun!
For hunters the courses can get pretty hard debating if you're doing a handy round or medal or derby
@EmmaEq
Жыл бұрын
Yes. They can get equally hard and often have “jump offs” aka a ride off in the hunter world
OMG that's Lacey's jump!!!! I cried when I saw it ...
Nice....thank you..
Hey, quick question, well 2 actually. Do leads matter in jumper? And also, no matter what age you are, so you have to wear tall boots?
@meganproffitt424
7 жыл бұрын
Leads do NOT matter in jumper. Check with your trainer on the second question, but I believe riders under age 11 wear garters and riders over age 12 wear tall boots. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on the ages. Thanks!)
Different everywhere you are. Manes and tails are only braided for hunter derbies where I am at.
In my country we only have jumpers, which is really sad.. i wanna try hunters
All the clips are from the barn I used to ride at Eden ridge
What song the first one
Im in australia so we dont have hunter jumpers but do horses have to have a certin amount of bone? Like when we show hunters they are very heavy boned and chunky is it like that over there?? (If confused I have a video of me doing hunter in australia on my channel)
@oakiedokieee
7 жыл бұрын
yup most hunters here are chunky lol. people will occasionally show the thinner breeds but they don't really win that often from what i have seen.
@oakiedokieee
6 жыл бұрын
they have hunter shows for only thoroughbreds here so it makes it more fair but yeah the shows i have gone to all the tbs got last even though they looked much better and chunky ponies won
Hunters (in my opinion, not being rude) are a good place to start if you want to get into riding. But I find eventing is a really good way to find out what being an equestrian is all about. Of course, everyone is different, but I came from hunters and went into eventing only to realize I didn't know anything at all! I suppose the more you know, the more you realize you don't know! At any rate, good video and not hating or glorifying one discipline over another! Keep doing what you love. ✌️
I love show jumping and that is what I do on the Thoroughbred mare I ride.
Quite interesting, in Germany we have showjumping classes "style" (based on how you ride your horse over & between the jumps) or "time" (time and faults, typically without jump-off except higher classes). If there are children with their ponies you mostly don't have a chance to win time classes :P classes range from E(up to 0.90m) (einfach / simple) A*/A**(up to 1.0/1.1m) (Anfänger / beginner) L (up to 1.2m) (Leicht / easy) M*/M** (up to 1.35m) (Mittelschwer / middle difficult) to S*/S**/S*** (1.4 1.5m 1.65m)(Schwer / Difficult - here the jump-off begins; S*** is grand prix). Do you have those classes, because I'm often reading of 1.10 class or 1.20 class?
@KiraTabeaHeppner
6 жыл бұрын
and in both you have exact the same equipment. braids are not necessary but traditional most horses have them. Classes are the same in Dressage and Eventing. And you mostly can decide whether you want to combine all 3 at eventer's shows (and gain dressage, jumping, eventing plus the all over prizes) or only ride the eventing.
So what I’ve learned from this is that I lesson at a stable that does both, but at my level, I currently only show hunter
Good explanation. I didnt know anything about hunter actually...
In the first jumpers video ur riding at my barn!!
thank you this was really helpful because i want to start competing and could not pick a class now i am a HUNTER!!!!!!
Lol I’m sharing a lease with someone this summer, and my horse is definitely a hunter horse 100%. But she gets to do the hunters while I’m on this horse trying to make this big, hunter stridden, slowish horse go fast.
Why do jumpers wear the saddle pad in competition?
