HorseyTube That is another thing in the UK we don't have barns! We say we are going to the stables or he yard😂 Most people over here are Eventers so most places have instructors that can teach every discipline👍 I need to make a video on my channel about equestrian in the UK Vs the US☺️

Love this! No hate at all but hunters typically focus way more on the horse (having shown on the trillium hunter circuit for 4 years) and at the bronze level, manes do not have to be braided (: also in the undersaddle, judges look at the horses relaxation and movement, which is why the rider is in a half seat to allow the horse full motion. Great video! Just thought it would be important to help educate more thoroughly on this discipline (: I'd love to see a controversial tack video! (Talking about opinions on bits etc..)

A few things to add- -In hunters, you do not need mane or tail braided and some shows -Equitation is not important in hunters, Equitation and hunters are different divisions -Local schooling show hunters are for straightforward courses, bigger shows however have more difficult courses. -You must get good distances -Not all shows require you to jog -Undersaddle is based on horse’s movement -must have consistent pace Great video!

Yeah, Hunters needs more credit... I mean, somebody has to get the horses to act that well... But yes, I really enjoy focusing on my hosre's comfort and disposition more than my own. I like it when my horse is happy over the jumps, unlike some jumpers who just want to jump high and fast, but that's it.

Erica Equestrian you can’t look ugly but you don’t have to be the best. That’s how hunters work, especially the pony ones. We all look good or else we wouldn’t be competing in a class of 20. We also have eq in our divisons though

I loved this video but I did notice a couple things that were just slightly off(not trying to be rude at all, I love your channel). I don't know if the rules are the same in Canada, but in the U.S. hunters are judged only on the horse. We have hunter and equation classes separated but they are almost always in the same ring with the same judge. Also, not every hunter/eq show you go to requires their mane/tale to be braided. Again, I just wanted to let you know, it might be different in Canada. Love you and your videos☺️

  • @cmwattam

    @cmwattam

It's a little different here in Canada. Hunter as a division includes equitation and undersaddle. so "Hunter over fences" is judging mostly just your horse while jumping. "Equitation over fences" is judging mostly the rider over fences. "Equitation" is judging mostly the rider on the flat, and "Hunter undersaddle" is judging mostly just the horse on the flat. There's also slightly different riding styles for equitation vs. hunter. Equitation you want to ride in a full seat with your horse collected in a frame and in hunter you want a half-seat with your horse "long and low". (Sorry went on a tangent)

My.bay.slays No, in the US hunters are always only judged on the horse. The equitation of the rider really doesn't matter as long as the horse is moving well. Hope this helped!! 😊🐎

Cameron _ Dose well most do not require manes to be braided but it's done to make you and your horse look more crisp and sharp and it looks better than having a mane flopping around when you ride

One of the main purposes of braiding is to show off a horse's conformation and collection, besides the fact that it looks neater.

In Puerto Rico we only have jumpers (beside paso fino). When I moved to the states I was enrolled in a hunters class. I had no idea. The instructor was so harsh on me because I was used to riding Jumpers and just wasn’t getting it. Made me quit riding sadly. But now I understand why I struggled so much. If I could I would get back to jumping! Thanks for the informative video!

Hi!! I’m a kind if newer rider looking to start showing. I really think I’ll do best and have the most fun in jumpers, and I also have ADHD and a lot of trouble focusing on multiple things at once, I prefer a few main points of focus, and in order to improve, I need to know exactly where I went wrong. Subjectivity can be really frustrating to me. I know a lot of people who start out showing in hunters, and I’m willing to give both a fair shake, but I think it would be best to try jumpers. Should I bring this up with my instructor?? Thank you!!

Hi! It depends on what kind of barn you go to Hunters or Jumpers etc (Just Because some trainers only teach hunters or jumpers.) I recommend if you are new to showing or just starting out that you do hunter flats Walk trot or walk, trot, canter just to see how you like it. I’m am a hunter and have never tried jumpers, but one of my good friends rides jumpers and both are amazing and fun! In my humble opinion hunters is more laid back and jumpers are a little more difficult. Also if you don’t feel that comfortable jumping (Because in jumpers there are usually no flats) I would 100% recommend walk trot or walk trot canter. Hope this helped!

Hey maya I moved barns about 5 months ago and I've been doing great but all of the sudden my coach told me that I was moving backwards but the lesson before that she told me I was advancing. Any advice or tips? LYSM

Hmm? How are you moving backwards? Did something happen to make you lose your confidence? It'll come back over time, just be patient

Are you reviewing things because you need a refresher? That's okay! We all do. Sometimes I even need to work on my figure eights because I'm suddenly forgetting to change my diagonals, and I'm a prelim eventer, for heaven sakes! We all have periods of time where we feel off in our riding and need to go back to basics. Don't stress over it. Move on to other things when you feel ready and have fun!

For hunters the courses can get pretty hard debating if you're doing a handy round or medal or derby

Yes. They can get equally hard and often have “jump offs” aka a ride off in the hunter world

Hey, quick question, well 2 actually. Do leads matter in jumper? And also, no matter what age you are, so you have to wear tall boots?

  • @meganproffitt424

Leads do NOT matter in jumper. Check with your trainer on the second question, but I believe riders under age 11 wear garters and riders over age 12 wear tall boots. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on the ages. Thanks!)

Hunters (in my opinion, not being rude) are a good place to start if you want to get into riding. But I find eventing is a really good way to find out what being an equestrian is all about. Of course, everyone is different, but I came from hunters and went into eventing only to realize I didn't know anything at all! I suppose the more you know, the more you realize you don't know! At any rate, good video and not hating or glorifying one discipline over another! Keep doing what you love. ✌️

Quite interesting, in Germany we have showjumping classes "style" (based on how you ride your horse over & between the jumps) or "time" (time and faults, typically without jump-off except higher classes). If there are children with their ponies you mostly don't have a chance to win time classes :P classes range from E(up to 0.90m) (einfach / simple) A*/A**(up to 1.0/1.1m) (Anfänger / beginner) L (up to 1.2m) (Leicht / easy) M*/M** (up to 1.35m) (Mittelschwer / middle difficult) to S*/S**/S*** (1.4 1.5m 1.65m)(Schwer / Difficult - here the jump-off begins; S*** is grand prix). Do you have those classes, because I'm often reading of 1.10 class or 1.20 class?

and in both you have exact the same equipment. braids are not necessary but traditional most horses have them. Classes are the same in Dressage and Eventing. And you mostly can decide whether you want to combine all 3 at eventer's shows (and gain dressage, jumping, eventing plus the all over prizes) or only ride the eventing.
