Just a little correction, but Acosta didn't go missing after a bar fight. The details, according to his son Marco, are that he called Marco from Mexico saying he was about to "board a sailboat full of snow". His son told him that he hoped he knew what he was doing and Oscar retorted that he hoped he (Marco) knew what he was doing with his life. That is the last known communication with Acosta. It's theorised he may have been lost at sea and there was also a rumor that he was shot by some of the less than savoury people he was associating with at the time. There were a couple of reports that he may have been spotted in Hawaii or Florida but no-one really knows. Or if they do, they aren't telling... Fans of Hunter Thompson's writing should really read Oscar Acosta's novels, "Autobiography of a Brown Buffalo" and "The Revolt of the Cockroach People". Both are really great reads!

I know what you mean, because Hunter repeated certain phrases so much that you assumed he spoke for other people when he quoted unnamed sources. Check out Norman Mailer’s American Dream to see where he got some of his lingo and seemingly avoided Mailers own delusion in the process.

It’s a different experience having Hunter almost be the secondary “character” in this recording, it’s kind of nice too hear what Oscar was really like.
