Great tutorial on the traditional Hunter’s Star block. Yes a 24” ruler is a great addition to your arsenal. It is so helpful in cutting strips. A 12.5” square ruler is also great to add. It is fabulous for squaring up blocks.

I'm always amazed how many ways a person can make the Hunter's Star (it's my favorite block). I've only made 2 quilts using the Hunter's Star. First time I make it was using Deb Tucker's Hunter's Star ruler, 2nd time I made the block I used the AccuQuilt cut and die for this block, it's my favorite way by far. Great explanations on making the block.

Hi. I know, it's so versatile! Well, I imagine the AccuQuilt made life much easier because the issue usually lies with the cutting of the pieces... 😀

I'm in love with this block but have now seen 5 different ways to make it. I like the first one best but the 3rd one looks easier. I think I would struggle lining up the half square triangles on the 3rd one.

I tear my fabric any chance I get hehehe. Some fabrics are too soft for that and will bend, so those I have to cut. But the sturdier ones, I tear. Thank you 😍

I don't know what you are using to iron on, but it is noisy, and doesn't look like it is even flat like an ironing surface. You should get a wool cutting mat along with your 24" ruler. You will love it. The quilt block is beautiful.

I applaud your showing the different methods, but the end result of the last two was not good. The first method is better--however, it does produce bias on the cut pieces. I prefer Deb Tucker's methods for making this beautiful block, and HST's are never a good substitute for a diamond. A square up ruler is important to have to control the overall cut to include diagonal alignment on the entire piece which a rectangular ruler cannot accomplish.

You need to be more clear on the pressing, i cant tell what seam is going in which direction. When you say the pressing must be crisp it looks like th block in your hands hasnt been pressed at all.

I have a pile of taco shells you can iron on if you want… What in the actual… How could anything be pressed “flat” on that “thing” It’s irritating just to watch. Spend the 25 dollars and buy a board.
