Hungary Travels: Eger | Historic Castle Town and Good Wine 🇭🇺
During your Hungary Travels, a historic town to visit is Eger, a town with a Castle, a cute inner town and some excellent local Wine! If you are looking for a day-trip away from Budapest this could be one!
Eger is 2 hours away from Budapest by train, or about an hour and a half with car. This historic town was formed inn the 10th century and became an important religious center, known for it's narrow cute alleys and the Castle which held back the Turkish Army during the Ottoman Empires conquest!
Eger is surrounded by many hills ideal to grow grapes for wine. The local Bikavér red cuvee can be interesting for wine enthusiasts, but there is also some excellent Pinot Noir as well. For those who enjoy white wines you have many options too, like the local cuvee known as Egri Csillag (Star of Eger), also some Rieslings or Chardonnays.
Eger is also a nice Area for those who want to go Hiking. Nature is close and there are many nice villages in the area to use as starting places for Hikes, since the Bükk National Park is right here!
Another Charming Little town in the Hungarian Countryside is Kőszeg. Also full of history and interesting stories:

Happy to hear, hope you will have a great time :)
Thank you for the video and I appreciate your sense of humor! I plan to visit Eger for the day when I am in Budapest. Question: do you know how much the trolley costs in case I don’t want to walk the 30 minutes to and then back to the center of Eger?

Hey there! If I see correctly on their website it's 2100 huf for a round trip ticket. 😊 It's a small train like vehicle that takes people from the city to the wine valley 😊🍷

Hey there! It's planned since it's a very nice city and I haven't been there in many years, but not sure if we can squeeze it in our itinerary this year, let's see :) Hopefully we can add more and more of our gorgeous cities and towns to our ever growing library of videos :)
we Turks know about tales of this castle
Goblin better fits for manó though. Elf is tündér :)

True, even though for me a Goblin is not something cute, it means more like "kobold" :D And while indeed thanks to Tolkien the Elfs are also not like our Hungarian "Manó", google translate gave me Elf for Manó... our words may not match up perfectly with the English words :D

Well, I know, I'm late for the party. But I think the English word that fits to translate "manó" with the most accuracy is "gnome".

@@rekapatronum1675 Late but so right! Yes, that’s the word indeed!
