Hungarian Puszta Horse Show Kalocsa Hungary Highlights
Highlights from a traditional Hungarian Puszta Horse Show near Kalocsa in Hungary. Not far from the Danube it is a popular excursion for both visitors to Budapest and also on Danube river cruises. Many of the main cruise lines visit here. I went while on a Emerald Waterways Danube cruise from Bucharest to Budapest. The show by traditional Magyar Cowboys includes longhorn cattle, horses that have been trained to lie down and sit which they historically did during battle to reduce visibility and they used whips to sound like gun fire. There is also an impressive finale where a man stands on the rear of two horses part of a charging nine-horse display. Come and join the fun in this video.

This is one of the more traditional things you can get to see on a Danube cruise. The horses lying down were good but was there a donkey too. It must be hard to train those.

WARNING: You get given a piece of bread smeared with something greasy and a glass of hooch. the greasy stuff is pig fat - look out if you're vegan, vegetarian, Muslim or Jewish. I did this a couple of years back, a little tacky, especially as they keep joking about the donkey. The tour of the farm is pretty dull, we have pigs in Britain too you know! But I did enjoy seeing the draft oxen, and some of the horsemanship was pretty damn good.
