Maybe Texas should hook up to the federal power grid, the only reason they don't is because they don't want to have to follow federal regulations, so you are stuck with the 19th century power grid, enjoy the sauna 🥵

Day 5 "Off-Grid" (no power)... Promises were made by Abbott years ago after more than 70 people died during a winter storm... We still have -"late 19 Century technology"- electric poles for cables in rural areas and cities, exposed transformers and unprotected generators (from air, rain and winter)... I am not sure if ERCOT includes every company that owns the infrastructure in Texas, but they have had plenty of time to rebuild, modernize and ultimately develop a network that has the capacity to supply the growing demand and a reliable grid across our State. My comments are not about "bashing" or calling for people to be fired... the intention is to instill in the companies the will to Build systems with the high-quality that American ingenuity and American products used to have...

This was a strong category 1 storm (near category 2) with gusts up to 120mph. Category 2 starts at 96 mile an hour sustained winds. I’m with one of the utility companies called into Houston to help out CenterPoint restore power. A lot of the damage comes from fallen trees breaking lines and poles which is priority right now so the whole system cannot be energized yet. You’ll see some blocks have power while others don’t. Most of the time it is because of an open fuse that just needs to be closed. The fuses open to protect the transformers from overloading. We have crews driving around checking all the lines going through back yards.

I clicked on my street and it says my whole subdivision, Imperial Oaks in South Montgomery County, has been restored. The only problem is that none of it has actually been restored. In fact we still have a downed power line 2 blocks from me with a tree on it. Centerpoint is faking that map to try to look better than they are. Those numbers on the screen are wrong. Stop listening to computers and listen to people. I've had a text from Centerpoint every day bragging about how good they are and never have they given me any useful information. They promised that today we would get another one telling us specifically when we could expect help. They have lost credibility now. We want action taken against Centerpoint and we won't get anything repaired until the mayor sends in the police to arrest that nerdy little computer guy so the workers can get the job done. Computers don't get the work done and everyone in this city is hooked on their computer. Someone help us please?

Watching all those power lines in an urban area is like watching scenes from a third-world country. When will y'all understand that the infrastructure is too important to leave to private companies? Just as you would not accept gas, water, and sewage on poles, you should demand that the power be in underground conduits. These conduits can easily be laid out together with the gas, water, and sewage.

Having above ground power lines is relic of the 20th century. Our power companies need to upgrade to underground power lines just like many Third World countries that moved to the 21st Century infrastructure. Our politicians are more concerned about serving their rich donner's agendas than serving their constituency. With all the money we are giving to Ukraine and Israel we would have upgraded our electric networks several times.

They work the large outages first, then they move to the smaller ones, as the restoration progressed they’ll pickup less and less per repair, typically the later repairs are the worst as they’re usually in less accessible places, for example, day 1 they may make a repair that fixes 10,000 people, day 7 that same type of repair might get ya 50 people back on. The downpour of rain, along with strong, gusting winds, caused many large trees to uproot. The ground was incredibly soft so I saw huge oaks and pine trees toppled over. Normally, those trees would have survived high winds.

You know, I will say I have noticed a difference in power line maintenance between Harris and Montgomery. I delivered car parts all over the place, power lines and poles in Montgomery were visible. Treeline could had been a bit further back but there was room. In Harris the poles and lines would get taken into the bushy trees and become part of the patch. Those vegitation cost difference make sense.

Corporations, if left unregulated and monitored will curb investment to be able to maintain and be ready for things like this....in order to bolster short term profits. I don't know this to be the case, but it would not surprise me. You just can't leave some industries to regulate themselves. They can NOT be trusted, unfortunately.

Some are harassing pud workers and that is misdirected anger because they are just there to repair the damage and its hard enough without a bunch of pissed iff folks yelling at them to do their dang job when they dont make company policy. Dont vent at them, its really dumb, check into the way the company does things and demand answers from the higher ups amd leave the workers to turn your lights on.
