Hundreds of MPs descend on parliament to be sworn in
The House of Commons was bursting at the seams as the new parliament began its first sitting.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Sir Keir Starmer made his first speech from the dispatch box with an overflowing government bench behind him.
And while swearing in hundreds of new MPs could take as long as three full days, the new political order is already beginning to take shape.

Good point. It is a lot of money - I think £90, 000 per annum, but out of it they need to pay their staff. In addition it is crucial that the post of MP is paid otherwise Parliament will become largely a gentleman's club full of a wealthy elite given to a natural inclination to defend the interests of that elite at the expense of everyone else, leading over time to MPs who have never known poverty or even limited means.
Clostophobia will be a problem for any MP in a full parliament

When the Palace of Westminster was bombed by the Nazis and Churchill was given the choice of whether or not to redesign parliament to be semi-circular like many European legislatures, he chose to preserve the adversarial layout and the house too small for all its members so as to foster a more lively debate.
Let’s play spot the Tory in the comments 😂
How they can seat side by side, in a crammed space. How to even bringing MP own laptop?
When Blair won he had all his celebrity mates at downing street, including, Oasis because he played the guitar. This was Tony Blairs main priority when he became PM. Starmer from what I see so far has not copied Blair. He got straight down to business. I don't trust Starmer one bit and I'm confident that Labour is going to mess things up and everything will get worse not better. However, he got off to a good start.

@jla3bc considering my local council are labour and have been since the last time labour was in number 10 i know EXACTLY what we are going to get. I haven't had my waste bins emptied in MONTHS due to a strike down to workplace bullying and the councils lack of trying to fix the issue. Then in typical labour fashion just before an election is due its all magically sorted only for it to start right back up right after the election. A labour mp (who wanted to be mayor) tried to close down a food bank as it was ran by an independent mp and not labour. A labour mp STOLE thousands in public money buying personal gifts while on holiday yet is still allowed to stand for labour. My council are in close to a billion debt due to their miss management of money yet blame everyone else. Yea i am sure it was the government's fault they removed speed bumps and placed new ones in (about 10ft away from the original spots) only for them to remove them and put them back in the original spot less than a month later. Or the labour mp who used public money to have a footpath built so he could walk to his mates house quicker. Or my personal experience when labour where last in power and i was a homeless teenager not long after a suicide attempt and needed help. What did my local labour council say? You're not at risk so we wont help you. Oh you have no money here is a list of b&b's you can stay at and how much they are a night. So no NOT sour grapes at all. I know what labour are really like and can tell you now things are going to get worse under labour and they will blame everyone else and the idiots will believe them. Get ready for the over spending.
