Hundreds Arrested: Students Across U.S. Protest for Palestine as Campus Crackdown Intensifies

Student protests calling for university divestment from Israel and the U.S. arms industry have rocked campuses from coast to coast. The nonviolent protests, which have been characterized as “antisemitic” for their criticism of Israel, have been met with an intensifying police crackdown as university administrators threaten academic discipline and arrests. On Wednesday, local and state troopers violently arrested dozens at the University of Texas at Austin. Meanwhile, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson visited Columbia University in New York City, the site of a high-profile student encampment and one of the first to be met with police action, where he called on university president Minouche Shafik to resign. We hear from two Jewish students involved in protests at their schools. Joshua Sklar, a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin and an organizer with Jewish Voice of Peace Austin, says concern over campus antisemitism is insincere, and that, in fact, “The people who are being targeted are Muslim students, Arab students, and especially Palestinian students.” Sklar and Sarah King, a member of Columbia University Apartheid Divest who was arrested at the campus’s Gaza Solidarity Encampment, also point out that a large percentage of protesters are Jewish anti-Zionists concerned about their safety from state repression. “The threat is really coming from Columbia University, which has set the police on hundreds of its students who are entrusted to its care,” says King.

Yes, they have; almost always in fact; Soviet revolution in 1918. Mao's "Cultural Revolution" in the 50s-60s, Iranian Revolution in 1978...there are more, but those three alone caused the deaths of ~70 million people in the last century. *There is no one less equipped to deal with the problems of the world than a 20 year old liberal arts student.* Their heads are literally full of nonsense. I support the students. I was a college student in 1968 and I protested against an immoral war in Vietnam. The students now are protesting against an immoral war in Gaza. I do not support that war and I protest against the thousands of innocent people being killed in Gaza. I protest it and support the protests against it. Solidarity forever!

American Corporations have a vested interest in maintaining stability through Diplomacy and Military Force in the Middle East. Our relationship with Israel is primarily centered on this need and thus Israel has our financial and military support. Muslim extremists are a threat to that stability. Muslim countries in the Middle East want exclusive control of the oil markets and use terrorism to disrupt the United States and our allies in the region. Anti-semitism is used to stir up resentment and direct violence against the Jewish people and the State of Israel. Muslim countries in the Middle East resent the power the United States has and use religious fundamentalism in an effort to destroy Israel and attack US forces in the region. They finance and support terrorist organizations throughout the Middle East. Palestinians do not want peace they want to completely remove the Jews from Israel/Palestine. The Jews have a right to live in peace and have a historical claim to the land of Israel.

What is the purpose of elite universities. It is to produce people who are qualified to manage and lead American Corporations and Businesses. The people attending these universities who are protesting the war in Gaza are the Worst Kind of Hypocrites. Their goal is to become credentialed professionals and either start their own businesses or work for American or European Corporations. They want to enjoy and participate in the wealth and prosperity that these companies and western countries have created. War is ugly and sadly many people die and suffer. Countries compete and fight for control of limited resources. This is unavoidable. There is a price for our prosperity and it is paid in blood and treasure. These immature and self-righteous students benefit from that prosperity yet they want to wash their hands of their complicity so that they can defend their delusion of "moral superiority". If they really wanted a better world they would divest themselves of their corporate funded university education and live humble lives of poverty and simplicity!
So very proud of these students. They have more morals than our government leaders.

As a Palestinian American I deeply appreciate these students telling the world they care. I have family Arab Israeli that told me they do not believe the world cares about them. My family in Bethlehem Palestine says they don't believe Americans care about them. I hope these videos and these protests can show them that there are at least a few Americans that don't want Palestine removed from the Earth. The Israeli soldier that killed my aunt Huda Hawarjeh in Aida Bethlehem smiled on camera and said he was purifying the land. I have uploaded the video of the interview to my channel on youtube but it can also be found in the CBC covered it. There's also a hilarious Washington Post article where they try to justify the ambulances being blocked and left out the purification part.
